charity shop buys

When we were first married our flat was burgled and our cheap teapot was broken. My mum bought me a stainless steel Oneida one as a replacement. Many years later I found the matching coffee pot, hot water jug, milk jug and covered sugar bowl in an Oxfam shop and gladly handed over the £15 it cost for the set.
Last week I bought a Dartington Crystal cheese plate in their 'Daisy' pattern in our local hospice shop for £4, it was still in the box. A few weeks ago I found a pink leather mini Filofax with matching key ring and pen. It was new, still in its box and cost me £5. All I had to do was buy the 2019 diary insert and I am sure I will have it for many years.
I tend to buy fiction books on my Kindle but most of my non-fiction books are from charity shops.

I got a limited edition print, in a frame, for £2 last week. It's an Edinburgh scene, and I googled the artist, who is quite well known. It fits in perfectly with a little group of Scottish pictures that I have.

Lovely to hear about all the bargains people have found. I can never find clothes though. Both times my husband ventured in with me he found a beautiful leather jacket and a colourful suede waistcoat. I must try harder!
I buy dvds, watch, then give back. I also love little China tea plates. I usually pay for the set and just take the plates. I once had to leave some in the car boot until I plucked up courage to bring them into the house to hear my husband say 'Not more plates'!

Urmstongran, you really made me smile with your comment on the box - this is something I would be considering doing if I collected boxes! ?? Go for it!

If If you feel you would be really disappointed to go back and find it gone, go back and get it.

I dithered over a china tea set annep1 and thought 'I do not need that and it is just more clutter'.
However, I wish I'd bought it (but it was over £40!).

The tea set went in the end annep1, although I had kept eyeing it up every time I went past for weeks.

Just do it Urmstongran - I'll go halves for the china!!

Yesterday I bought a small jug to replace on that I have that had a chip in the rim.
When I got it home I found it had a crack in it?
I had carried it carefully so it wasn’t my fault. I bought a children’s domino set that had a card missing once.
I must examine things more carefully but why would anyone donate something that wasn’t fit for purpose?

I buy a lot of books from charity shops and recently started buying jigsaws. I finished one today and it had ONE PIECE MISSING, to say I am cross is understatement.
When I finish a puzzle and give it to a charity shop I always put a sticker on it that says 'completed and the date' . This one has just gone in the bin !!!

I always put the make sure all the pieces are there and put then in a sealed poly bag in the box.
Pamela I have won a couple of raffle prizes which have been incomplete! They were only fit for the bin.

Niobe I have that same Dartington Daisy cheese plate, I’ve had it since the 1970s, it’s still in its box though much used and I love it. Hope it brings you as much pleasure

Thank you Jessity, when I bought it I thought I could use it for cheeses or as a cake plate for larger cakes. It is such a timeless design.

Yesterday I bought a pair of Gap Jeans, £3.00!

They were a size 8 though, and I am a size 10/12, but they looked fairly big, so tried them on and they fitted perfectly! Yet another pair of white jeans I tried on, size 12 didn't fit at the waist

A local Charity to me sells paperbacks 3 for £1.00, which I buy, read then donate back.

I volunteer at a charity book/toy shop and we sell most of our toys to Gparents who are looking after their GC. We also sell lots of jigsaws and are often asked if we count all the pieces, looking at 1,000 piece jigsaws.?

Yesterday, a book to read to little Gdcs when doing childcare duty later this week, 89p.

'Who's in the loo? There's a very long queue
Is it an elephant having a poo?'
Etc.
I have a feeling it will go down well with a 2 and a 3!

Last week found an Ashwood leather handbag,new, donated to Red Cross by QVC was £90, they were selling for£20!

I get quite excited reading about people's lovely bargains. 3 cheers for charity shops. Keep going !

I work at salvation army charity shop West Wickham Kent. I think that a lot of clothes are not scrutinised enough. The again charity shops get a lot of stained dirty clothes maybe they are putting the better ones than not putting out any at all.have a word with the manager. Or go and volunteer.
