Not the way you`d choose to start the day Soop, I`m so glad that it was sorted for you, albeit after a drive to Campbeltown A&E. Please look after yourself.
MawB, congratulations to all, looking forward to pics and baby`s name.
Kitty, all the best to your hubby for tomorrow.
Tomorrow morning my son goes for his first chemo, he`s very nervous.
We were waiting earlier for the carer to come to Lynne, then we heard someone knocking on the window. We wondered why she hadn`t just knocked and come in as they usually do, then when I got to the door it was locked and no key there! After a frantic search I found it and let the poor woman in, apparently my granddaughter had come home shortly before that and locked the door, no doubt thinking the carer had already been.

Lovely news Maw!
soop you don’t need complications like that. I hope you don’t have any more before your next hospital visit. Things were certainly different 19 years ago ann. I was in hospital for 10 days when I had my first baby.
Congratulations * Maw* a new life is always a miracle.
I hope your DHs biopsy goes well tomorrow kitty.
I am sure your son is very nervous callgirl. I hope it goes well. I know exactly how he is feeling - just wishing this buggeration had not cropped up and all this was not necessary.
Many congratulations maw and to the young family. Good to know there has been a safe arrival.
Wishing your son well callgirl, and also mr lester. Keep on resting when you can soop, the body heals faster without pressure. Hope tomorrow goes well.
I am pretty flat marydoll, feel bad about it as others have far more to carry but it’s the reality, and this too will pass as they say. I’m probably best ignored until it does
.
Be careful out there everyone.
Morning all !!!
Good luck today to your son callgirl hope its less worrying than he expects, and also to MrKitty . Its all go here these days !!
Its been a bright , blue sky start to the day today. Not too much of importance going on here , Grampy is off to lay the base for his new greenhouse thing. Its not quite a shed and not quite a greenhouse which is arriving this week. It has been named ' The Oval Office' !! We've almost got the full set now with The White House and The West Wing !!
Had some lovely pictures of young Cooper this weekend. He had the class mascot and took him on a very exciting trip to London. Ill post a picture of him here - how lovely is when a stuffed toy brings this much pleasure?
Happy days all !!!
Now --- the technical gremlins have been at work because I mentioned you in my post Corner ….and then you disappeared !!!!
Hope life treats you kindly while you're feeling flat ( I wish I was more flat than beach ball shaped !!) and you can always come here and share your cares - we lot get it
N&G lovely photos. They are so lovely at this age.
corner sorry you are feeling flat - I hope your pain and family concerns ease soon
Just want to add my voice to the good advice from others Soop Please don’t push yourself too much, you are a necessary part of so many others.
Sorry to hear you have had a set back and I am sending the strongest healing vibes your way. Best wishes too to your rock aka MacSporran?
Another little bundle to love Maw. Lovely news
I only occasionally pop into 'The Kitchen' but saw that MawB has a new grandchild. Congratulations to you and your family. What wonderful news after a very hard and painful few years. A new baby is life renewing itself, to be treasured and enjoyed. ?
Backtracking a few pages there were some comments about the positives of household dust and I was reminded of a frig magnet a friend had many years ago. It said 'I don't mind you noticing my dust but please don't write in it.'
cornergran I send hugs and virtual flowers to you. I cannot for the life of me remember why you are down (sorry) but whatever it is, I hope tomorrows dawn beings more peace and light to you.
Mawbroon congratulations, a lovely new bundle of joy and hope.
This morning our bed looked like a crime scene after a particularly spectacular expistaxis from the CH. He is on warfarin needless to say. He awoke surrounded by ruffled sheets in various hues of red, some parts dry, others still shiny red informing me he had a bit of a restless night. On the plus side it means I must have slept! Yay!!
This mornings flummoxing for me centered around the programme dial on the washing machine.
Dear panache your thoughtful posts are helpful. In reply I dont think I am overthinking this thing. Moreso that I am aware there are so many carers in this kitchen struggling with loved ones and I thought my posts would give some sort of insight into what Alzheimers does to the person.
Things are insidious at the moment, but my hope is that my ramblings give more insight and understanding to everyone. I am just about to purchase a copy of Wendy Mitchell's book "Somebody I Used to Know" which has been recommended to me.
If there is chocolate cake later (on the offchance) please save me some. I have a hankering ?
Good morning the kitchen! This ME/CFS is such a bugbear and I have had no option but to stay in bed and rest up to now. Today I am actually washed and dressed, albeit sitting on the bed recovering and with a mug of tea brought by Himself. He is much more sanguine about the amputation especially as it would appear that the needed amount of healthy bone and tissues are available for it to be below the knee. (BTK) He just wants to get it over and done with and have the spring and summer days to recover and hopefully get moving with a prosthetic leg. Thank you all so much for all the kind messages of encouragement, so much appreciated. X
Isabella please keep posting. It is indeed an insight into how this dreadful disease manifests itself. I have just been to see my mum and would love to have an inkling of what is going on in her head. In encouragement she is not frustrated or upset in any way. She is always happy to see me although she does not know who I am but she knows she knows me and likes me and that is enough.
Syn I am sorry you are suffering as well as your DH. I am sure his troubles do not help you but if he is coming to terms with things that must be a big plus and below the knee means prosthetics are easier to cope with. My DH played golf regularly with a man in his 80's with only one leg. It certainly didn't hinder him.
soop hope things are going better today. Maybe tomorrow the drains can come out and you will hear what the next step is. I am finding this journey very tedious now. I feel it has gone on long enough but realise there is still a long way to go. We will see it through together though with the support of the lovely people in here.
I have brought some fatless, sugarless hot cross buns to have with the coffee. They are on the side next to the toaster.
I agree, Synonymous the sooner the B/K amputation takes place the sooner he will be up and about again. It is good to have the remainder of spring, summer and autumn ahead of him.
I know he is marginally younger than Mr.S but that young fellow in Strictly was flying around the floor with his B/K amputation.
soop with luck there were no more early morning dashes to the local A&E department. I do hope that MacSporran is also resting.
I am aware you have a lot of family who are concerned about your health but I hope that the phone stops ringing and you get a break. People mean well but do not think.
I am making banana nut brownies later, Izabella, having begged DH to leave me two now ripe bananas. If I don’t use them today he will scoff them! I will leave a generous helping. Like you, my washing machine sometimes flummoxes me - I keep rushing off to find the manual because symbols flash and I can’t remember what they are! I’ve only had it five years
!
Mind you, everything is flummoxing me today as I woke up with a hangover from one large glass of red, severe ringing in my ears and feeling as if I had fallen down the stairs.
Apricity that made me laugh out loud! I ought to have that fridge magnet!
Corner sorry to hear you are feeling rather low. Hopefully, some better weather this week and maybe a bit of sea air will help!
N&G lovely photos! I think every school had a soft toy rabbit that has to come home from time to time. GS had to keep a “Nibbles” diary! I was thinking this morning how long ago all that seems - when you were choosing your car because it had isofix mountings for various child seats and suddenly they are riding up front asking things like “Can you connect to Bluetooth, Grandad?” while fiddling with the screen options. Grandad thinks Bluetooth is some horrible dental complaint that will land him in the hands of the hygienist again!
Hope Soop had a better night after yesterday’s trauma. Easy does it!
I will look in later.
Be careful Greyd you may get left behind because we will be on the move again soon!
I love that little fellow happily playing with his toy. Nice to see he does not have square eyes watching TV.
Please keep posting Izabella, we welcome your input and it does inform those of us who are interested in Alzheimer's Disease? Would you be interested in helping research. A friend's husband is very active with one part of the research programme. He gives talks (With his wife there, just in case) and raises awareness. I know they are always looking for volunteers. You certainly don't strike me as some one who likes to sit still.
syn sorry you are not well but I am pleased your Dh's news is 'good'.
You must be well and truly fed up dragonfly - it's the unknown that is so tiring.
Lovely photos n&g.
I hope soop is taking it easy today and doesn't come into the kitchen - though then we'd worry.
Hope you are feeling a little better corner.
The staff were confused by Dh's referral for a biopsy as his scan was clear. He was offered the chance to go home but decided that, as he was psyched up, he might as well go ahead. As they had no 'target', they took 12 samples.
Izabella you are such a star to share with us how that beastly condition is affecting you on a daily basis. It will help those of us coping now or perhaps in the future as carers or sufferers. Knowing helps our understanding of what is going on in the brain.
I have put the largest, gooiest chocolate cake on the side for you and it has your name on it. Share (or not) as you please!
Mawbroon congratulations on the new baby, how lovely! What a joy!
soop do take it easy and ignore anything which is not essential to rest and survival. Get well soon! X
corner so sorry you are having such awful pain issues. I find the pain clinic to be such a blessing because they have so much to help you at their finger tips. I use a myriad of differing things and would say do not turn anything down because your own experience will be different to any other person. If you try the patches and it works for you then that is great. As in money - your rainy day is now!
I have read ALL the above posts, and there are a great many, so as my head won't hold all the informstion to be able to reply individually please be assured that I do have you all in my thoughts and prayers. Loved all the photos - such precious little people.
S.O.S...^You lot^ have been beyond busy. Heckers, I haven't a hope of catching up if you do not slow down. Anyway, you know that I am very fond of all of you. Welcome to our newbies - Kalu and Apricity. If I had some of Baggs's banana loaf to spare (which I haven't) I would share it with you.
I am now seriously behind with all the happenings in our kitchen. It feels as if I'm caught up in a whirlwind of activity and my feet can't touch the terra wotsit. Don't be too nice with me. If only the kindle worked effeciently, I would have space to read through the likes of 'War and Peace' , Kitchen-style.
The photos are fabulous. All the dear Granspals, together with husbands and other family member tribulations, of which there are many, I do care and I wish you the type of resolution that you deserve.
Drain leaked a little overnight. District nurse has tidied up the dressing. Tomorrow will almost certainly be drainage removal day. Great!
I thank you ALL for more kind, thoughtful messages. I did try to respond to one of you by p.m. but apparently, the response couldn't be sent. You know who you are. A mighty big thank you.
Just to say, I feel pretty good, all things taken into account. The kitchen is a delight. It is a haven of support. What's more, we have a new baby to welcome into the world. Such uplifting news.
I shall add just one image taken at the gathering. It is of all our grandchildren (eldest on the left and young Torben far right) together with the two greatgrandchildren. They are both toddling and delightful with it.
`Afternoon all; and as is usual in our kitchen so many things are changing in no time at all.............the best news has to be another grandchild for you and your clan Maw..........welcome little one and may your life be truly enriched.A bundle of joy for sure.
On the down side a real mishap in the Soop household but like Ann has said,I am not altogether surprised as these days, apart from the operation itself, the patient has to be nurse herself, dealing with these rather scary occasions........ when quite frankly a Hospital situation should be the setting for those first early days......when inevitably these mishaps oft occur.
However being home has enormous benefits and you certainly solved and sorted out the issue as I m know you would Soop!
No more jigging allowed though!!!
The party will follow in due course! That is a promise!
I for one think it is brave and educational knowing you are going to enlighten us all about exactly how an altzeimers patient copes and lives from day to day Izabella........you are the right person for that job, with your humour and eloquent turn of phrase,it really will be of enormous help to many.........and a learning curve for each one of us.
It will help us to help others and so will benefit so very many overall.
But let it be only as much as you feel happy in sharing.
I promise to laugh with you, but probably knowing how soft I can be........I shall also shed some tears!
Whilst deary me it sounds as if your poor man is coming out in sympathy and showing it in rather a dramatic show of blood!
Hope all is now calm and equilibrium restored to your household! You two certainly believe in doing things in dramatic fashion!!
Totally understanding how your son must feel Callgirl ......this is quite a momentous start to his treatments which he will feel less nervous, once he gets accustomed to the routine hopefully, and let us fervently hope it really does serve him well.
I can well imagine you will yourself be on tenderhooks awaiting to hear the daily outcome.
So sorry to hear you are now low with your own health issues Synonymous,it is again a case of the unfairness of life.
At least there seems to be some uplifting news regarding your dear man and his forthcoming amputation.Time these things got going because with Spring right on the horizon........ what a great time to recover and get the prothesis working by summertime.Seems he is really taking all this on board mentally and that will be such a boon.
Sending love and some
to cheer you up hoping you will soon be feeling more your lovely self.
Feeling your pains Corner and just hoping that many of your issues can be resolved to make life far easier yet again.Pain truly does take away all quality of life.
These biopsies are beginning to come too frequently where your good man is concerned Kitty.......just hoping eventually things do settle down, and he will be feeling much improved. These Hospital appointments are so draining in themselves too.......so do take it nice and easy when you can.
Of course you would speak up for the name Hannah Doodle and with good cause, and I can well understand your DGD is the apple of your eyes,a great joy. These names which were once very familiar are being firmly restored too.
My word N & G you must own some acreage what with the amount of building work both bnewly erected and more to follow!!!
Life is certainly not dull at your place!
I bet you get lost now and again or do you communicate by walkie talkies??
Love your photos too.
Great photo too GreyD
What is it with you lot???? buying in these sausage rolls and Cornish pasties ..........both which really make my mouth water .............and I have a great desire for a few hearty bites of both!!
The feed back from our Surrey house viewers was good but very non committal,so no great panic there.
We soldier on.
Whilst awaiting for suitable Sheltered Housing we keep our eye on the local market, very little coming on this year as yet, however a cute little 2 bed bungalow in rather a pleasant and central spot in our town came onto the Market over the weekend.
On our way back from my usual Hospital visit we took a peek and unfortunately it has a rather lot of rather steep steps leading up to it........thinking ahead it would not easily accommodate a wheelchair or a mobility scooter......and with the both of us heading in that direction it was decided that it just could not be “the on e”
So back to the drawing board!!
Time I was not here in my favourite spot ...........so I will bid you all a fond farewell, hoping the weather, your health and family issues are all being kind..........with the week ahead looking ever hopeful.
Enjoy!
I do think many machines, not just for washing, can be overly complicated. Himself will press the button if I have the W/M loaded and set but since the day he loaded it himself and put in a bright red t-shirt which turned everything pink he was so horrified he leaves it to me now. Our microwave does 'everything' so we are always referring to the instructions - together! As for the oven, the timer and automatic functions are on the blink (we think!
) so we need to get someone in to look at it. The kitchen tap had started dripping again and the plumber put in a part last year which was clearly not compatible so we will have to start again with that lot. Having thought about all of that I think I need to go back to bed!
Btw, kitty such kind thoughts but I don't think I am 'ill' in the sense that so many are. I do have to try to live with ME/CFS which means carefully pacing myself and I am finding that is so difficult just now. I also have post stroke issues which don't help but "I am very well, considering the state I am in"
Well said, Panache Your posts are of great comfort to Us lot.
I am paying attention to your advice. Having devoured yet more banana loaf, I'm about to lie down for a wee while. Go easy on me please. Don't rush about and leave me even further back in the lurch. Feet up. Talk amongst yourselves. Even I am beginning to believe that dust protects the furniture.
I shall return.
Lovely to see you in the kitchen soop and seeming so well. Fab photos of your family. Now go and rest!!!
I do understand some of your issues syn. Our elder son had a stroke aged 35 and still, 12 years later, suffers from extreme fatigue if he doesn't organise regular rest stops. And, that is without the CFS.
Lovely photo GD. I had forgotten that our eldest granddaughter had charge of the class mascot (I've forgotten what is was) and brought it to stay for the night. DH, being a good grandparent, took her and it to the local museum and then for pizza! You can guess what happened. It was left in the museum and, by the time they remembered and got back, the museum was shut!! Cue, weeping and wailing from Hattie. Luckily, they saw someone locking up and were able to retrieve the pesky thing.
Panache, you must be exhausted with all this house problem on top of everything else.
Now I'm confused and a touch worried as DH has had his next appointment with the consultant brought forward from June to tomorrow!
I hope they just had a space to fil and there is not a more sinister meaning! I was going to iron but I think I'll just make some tea and watch TV! Is there any of that gooey chocolate cake left?
synonymous I had no idea you suffered from ME/CFS. My DH had that as well (for anyone who notices how often I put “my DH has had/suffers from” I can assure you I’m not making it up. Apart from giving birth he has had an awful lot of problems GP thinks he’s bionic) no wonder you sometimes need a day in bed. Good news about your husbands op being below the knee as you’d hoped.
Lovely photos as always N&G. All your family have lovely smiles ?
callgirl hope your son’s first chemo goes well today and he doesn’t suffer too much in the way of side effects.
izabella there are many of us in the kitchen who are grateful for your posts. You do give an insight into an area which affects so many. Please keep posting. It is always good to hear from you.
Lovely picture from you too greyduster and banana nit brownies would be most welcome ?
soop I hope a more restful day is in order at the MacSporran household today. Please don’t overdo it. I see from your photo that Torben is as handsome as ever but my has he grown!
panache what a lovely long post. (I was sorely tempted to write “and ditto from me” but that would be lazy ?) Do hope you get a sheltered housing offer soon plus a good buyer.
corner hope you are in less discomfort today.
kitty ? what a shock to turn up to find they were not expecting to do biopsies and then to have 12. Your poor DH must be like an internal pin cushion. Hope all is well.
Actually greyduster I would prefer your nut brownies and will leave the nit ones for someone else
fat finger syndrome strikes again.
