I just hope the tide is turning and our government will continue in the future to deal with anybody (whichever gender) in a more robust manner. The fact that 400 have returned already (outrageous) doesn’t mean it should now be 401. Or 500.
It’s time that those who choose to go are aware that there will be consequences for their actions.
And I also hope the immams in their mosques are finally stepping up to the plate now too and condemning this behaviour. Just like the moderate Muslim did in the corner shop.
I like people of all ethnicities. And most people are good. But the rotten apples of whatever persuasion need to know that they’d better respect our values.

I want to feel sorry for this woman, because she was a child when she left, with her head full of radicalised rubbish and a child’s idealism.

I want to allow her back here so her child can grow up and be safe.

But every time she opens her mouth I have to push away my reactions to what she says and how she says it.

She knew just what she was doing when she left UK for Syria, where did she get cash for flights, how did she travel on her sisters passport as reported, was a husband already lined up for her in Syria,, how was that all arranged, if she could get through all that to get there , she must be quite savvy, and could possibly come back still with links in Syria and able to arrange terrorist attacks here , Definately should not be allowed back in UK , She shows no sympathy , remorse as to the Manchester/London attacks ,or innocent people beheaded , No No No, leave her in whatever camp she is in now, her choice , let her deal with the consequences,

Anja I like you have not lost all compassion but am conflicted.
But there is no happy or safe future for this girl. She made a foolish and ill informed choice and in doing so had screwed up her whole life more than she ever imagined.

I want to know why The Times went hunting for her, if they made promises to entice her to interview, if she was set up or set it up etc.

I agree with Gabriella. There’s been a lot of pressure and publicity to drop the voting age to 16 and yet now we’re being told that at 15 1/2, this girl was a child. She knew what she was doing and it doesn’t seem to be anything her family approved of. She says she wanted to start a family and have children. Lots of little ISIS members. And this view doesn’t seem to have changed.

What of her husband? He surrendered apparently and is now where?

I think I'll save my compassion for the mothers cradling their dying children in Yemen.

I don't care what happens to Shamima Begum and I certainly don't want to see her return to the UK.

The good thing about compassion is that it is not finite.
Yes I did care about the children who murdered James Bulger. That did not mean I did not also feel greater compassion for James and his family. There are some situations where everyone involved is hurt.

I have little sympathy for this young woman - at 19 she is much older than many of the local girls and children who suffered at the hands of ISIS. Who can forget the Yazidis stranded on the mountainside at the mercy of ISIS.

I think it unfair to Bangladesh to lumber it with the problem - as I understand things she's not a citizen just eligible to apply based on family background; rather like those seeking Irish citizenship, it's not conferred on you, you have to apply.

She does seem rather stupid and without even the guile to at least appear repentant.

Like others, I'm conflicted, particularly as there's a new-born baby to consider.

May I suggest that Shamima Begum effectively sabotaged her own potential return to the U.K. in her interviews?

As the historian Tom Holland pointed out: “If she wanted to signal that she was returning to Britain in peace, she might have considered naming her baby after someone other than Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah… a general from the early days of the Arab conquests chiefly famed for beating the cr** out of infidels.”
Her acceptance of beheadings as Islamically “correct” was breathtaking as was her attitude that the Manchester bomb was acceptable retaliation for attacks on Isil fighters.

EllanVannin of course I have compassion for mothers whose children die! A good friend of mine was a pal of Lee's. It hit home hard.
But I was brought up in the Church of England & though not a worshipper now the cultural influence remains.

Needless to say, I am totally disgusted with this government. Why pick on this young woman and her baby? She was radicalised as a child in this country, she left to go out there as a child. We have to take responsibility for what has happened to her. We need to try to fix it. It seems this government is a government of hate.

God know who I'm going to vote for next time.

The more I hear about this situation the more I am conflicted.

My initial reaction was no way should she come back, leave her where she is. The things she has said on camera about celebrating the Manchester bombing and other terrorist atrocities in the UK, made me wonder if she had Daesh within hearing distant.

The other thing is how quickly the Home Office has removed her British Citizenship, doesn’t sit right.

She was 100% wrong in what she has done, I am not sure her actions are equatable with sex grooming gangs who prey on young vulnerable girls, there is no evidence that she was vulnerable. She was by all accounts an intelligent young girl.

Will the UK be safer with her going to Bangladesh, I have my doubts as I and probably most on here have no knowledge of their security services.

I am cross that her school handed her the letter to give to her parents voicing the concerns about her interest in Daesh.

My other concern is that according to which news channel on-line news feed you watch they are presenting different stories as “facts”.

I shall repeat what I have already posted and that is we shall never know the truth.

That is just ridiculous.Do you really think it is impossible to hate IS for the wicked things they have done, and be dreadfully saddened for their victims, but still look coolly and calmly at the rights and wrongs of this particular issue?
