Ouija Boards

Elegran your moving rug doesn’t explain a tablecloth with breakfast dishes laid being pulled from the table, not by a sleep walker, only two people in the house in the same bed woken by the crashing noises , no pets in the house

I have said that I don't know the explanation for all unwitnessed breakages, Anniebach I only know that there are many different reasons, and supernatural influences are one reason that should be well down the list to be considered.

I believe in the spirit world. Not in the spooky, ghost type way, just that your spirit lives on in this world after you have left it. The spirit takes the form of every word you have spoken and every deed committed. That is why it is important to live a good life as much as you can. Every harsh word or action lives on in someone’s mind, tormenting them for ever. Every kind word and deed continues to offer comfort to those still in the living world. Quite often to future generations too.

I think it is very wrong to make any attempt to contact the deceased. They have earned their right to spend eternity in peace. Knowing that people are sad at their passing is natural, someone trying to bring them back from the spiritual world is not.

I used to go to a clairvoyant and she was so accurate. One time she said I was getting a pay rise but it wasn't like a normal pay rise. With the extra money we were going to have a new kitchen. She could have not possibly known that I worked for a bank and had just become eligible for mortgage subsidy. This meant the mortgage had to be moved to the bank and we were able to have extra money to have a new kitchen.

Daughter was newly engaged when we visited another time and she took off her ring to not give her clues. Her hand did not have a ring mark but she knew instantly and told her off for taking it off. One thing she told daughter was that her fiance had a problem with his left knee. She didn't know until she got home that he had injured it doing karate some years previously and had to give up the sport.

A friend went to see her when her husband had just walked out saying he didn't want to be married but stating there was nobody else. The clairvoyant described the other woman to her (without being told about him walking out), so vividly that she recognised her as someone he worked with and she had seen her at the Christmas dance. My friend had no suspicians as they did not associate with each other at the dance.

There were many more things and I truly believed she had a gift. Others I have been to have been the generalists - one said I would have a bad back, yes but so do most of the population and I would move to a cottage with roses round the door (not happened and not likely). Another friend, who I didn't know at the time, had been to the same person and had virtually the same reading.

Try this: Amaze your friends and family! Suspend a ring, large paper clip, or anything of a similar weight, on a length of thread. Hold it between finger and thumb, dangling down over a surface. Tell yourself it will move in a circle, clockwise, without you moving your hand. Keep your hand still but bend your will to the task. It will begin to circle and, if you concentrate, the circle will get wider. Tell it, mentally, to stop, or change direction and it will slowly comply without you moving. You can cause it to make pendulum movements side to side or forwards and back.

I was shown this on a work-based personal development course. It was meant to convince us we were capable of anything! Once we were successful, the mechanism (below) was explained. Like anything else, the more you practise, the better you get!

This is not spirit possession or anything like that. It's sub-concious micro movements of your own muscles that you are making happen, initially without being aware of it. That's one way that the ouija board may be directed i.e. by one or more living, breathing people around the board. Couple that with the desire for something, anything to be spelled out, and the desire to connect with it and you have your 'spirit' messages. The human mind is a powerful thing.

I read posts on GN and wonder why some people feel the need to say such horrible things to each other.......

I used one at a sleepover as a teenager.

Of course, being a prankster, I was using a metal planchette and a magnet held in my hand under the table.

When my terrorised schoolfriends realised what I had done, I got a sound beating from them all.

RosieLeah you obviously believe in spirits. I see faces when I am relaxed and close my eyes, very clear faces of strangers, sometimes they are talking but I can only see their lips moving? Spirits? This post makes me sound odd.... sorry but I have mead curious about this for sometime and haven’t had the courage to ask anyone

These boards were bought out in Victorian times as a harmless board game. They have just gained a reputation with age.

I think this is dangerous in the wrong hands. At a party when I was a teenager it was suggested that we play about with something like this. Apparently my face went white and I looked really scared - thankfully a kind friend persuaded them to change their minds.
If you want to make contact with the departed there are good mediums who can do this properly.

When I was in the 6th form our common room was in an old house in the school grounds (it became the house for the nuns). In the year above us there was a tragedy - one of the girls died due to carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty water heater in the bathroom of her home. We made a ouija board and held a seance (like good convent educated girls!) and it all got very scary and spooky. We thought we'd got the dead girl but then it got weird and we all freaked out! Never tried it again!

Don't do it. Whether or not there is something on the other side it can seriously mess with your mind. I know one lady who used the board and became convinced something evil had got hold of her and as a consequence she was too scared to see her grandchildren in case it got hold of them too.
I have personal experience when I was younger and away at university. At one session when asked a question about one of the lad's girlfriends back home the glass suddenly seemed to go violently mad out of anyone's control and spelt a word which we had to write down before we fully realised that word was "suicide". I promise you we were all really scared and never used the board again.

I work with bereaved people and so have probably more experience than most on this thread. Let's be scientific about this - when you die, you die. The ouija board is a form of cheap entertainment, preying on the psychological dysfunctionality of those involved. People who promote its use are charlatons. If a spirit is conjured up it's purely a figment of someone's imagination and might be the reason why that person ends up going to see a psychotherapist for years thereafter.

When I was a teen it was a fashion to use these boards. I ended up a nervous wreck. I couldn't sleep and my imagine worked overtime. Once we were playing and the glass spelt out that the devil was with us. One of the boys threw the glass into the trees and smashed it. We never played again. I hate ouija boards!

My mothers' side of the family belonged to a spiritualist church and allegedly spoke to 'the other side'. My GM used to whip a board out occasionally and my sister never knew how she was moving the glass by all accounts.

I don't believe in such things but do feel a bit uncomfortable that by saying so I'm implying half my family were fruitcakes.

I've experienced a couple of odd things in my time but put it down to being in a fragile state of mind due to upsetting situations. I've never had any proof and think if you are suggestable messing around with a board could disturb you, so probably best left alone.

However I did get a visitation by a pair of robins the morning after my Uncle (who I was very fond of) died - they still come which is nice ....

I would love to have something to believe in, especially as I can't see the point of life sometimes, what is all the crap I am being thrown all about? Why me and my family etc, we have done no wrong ..... but had no proof of anything!

I was once told however by a Diviner, that I had been a bad woman in a previous life (had been murdered) and so I needed to apologise for it (? who to?) and then I would get better from my illnesses .....

We had several ouija board sessions, years ago, and they were hilarious. We got the rudest messages!

It was the late 60s and my closest college friend was expecting her first baby. At that time, there were no scans to determine the sex of the baby, neither of us had a telephone and we kept in touch infrequently by snail mail as we lived 250 miles apart. One Friday night, myself and a small group of flatmates decided to set up a ouija board. I asked if said friend had had her baby. The reply was that she had had a girl. I asked the name and it spelled out Emja. Strange, I thought. The following Monday, a birth announcement card arrived to say a daughter had been born and her name was Emma Jane. I was very shaken and have never been near a ouija board since.

The catholic church has always taught that trying to tell your future or contact spirits is wrong and most other denominations agree about this too.

My grandmother used to say that wherever the dead are, she felt certain they had other and better things to do than be at the beck and call of relations trying to get in touch with them.

That always seemed a sensible way of looking at the afterlife that she firmly believed in.

I would personally never attend a séance or use a Ouija board as I happen to believe it to be meddling with things that are potentially harmless,

I try too keep an open mind about such things. But many years ago a friend was given a Ouija Board by an elderly relative, and of course we were curious. Four of us agreed to ask questions which we knew no one else in the group would know the answers to. My question was answered correctly. It really shook me and I have never been near a board since, and never would.
