The last of the killer heels? ??

All my shoes and boots now come from Clarks and the last remaining non-Clarks pairs went to the charity shop last week. I mainly wear sandals in the summer and boots in the winter now I have retired, but I do have a lovely pair of taupe, patent, heeled sandals for summer occasions, Clarks of course!

I have never worn high heels, just can't walk in them so I'm a flatties girl. The highest heel I ever wear is only 1 1/2" and only if I really have to for a wedding or similar occasion. I like to be comfortable so I usually wear wide fitting slip-ons or trainers. I don't buy lots of shoes, rarely have more than four pairs, and they must be soft leather. When I was younger I often had shoes made for me (so comfortable!) and did again when I needed dressy shoes for my sons wedding. Expensive but worth every penny for a day when I was on my feet all day, and I later sold them for more than I paid for them!

My Mum wore pointed stilettos from the day they appeared in the shops till the day she died. The bones of her feet were fused into the shape of the shoes so that she could not put her feet and toes flat on the floor. She had bunions and dreadful corns but prefered to suffer than wear more comfortable shoes! Even when she was nursing she flatly refused to wear the regulation flat shoes and all the patients knew when she was coming by the sound of her clicking heels.

I always wore heels and never owned a pair of flats. Now I have loads of flats and barely any heels. But I’m missing wearing heels and I’m thinking of getting some low but sexy heels

I always wonder at the psychology of wearing heels.
Is it, perhaps, that it puts women at a disadvantage for running away?
Is it because it elongates the legs?
Anyway, my mum and daughter persuaded me to buy some winter boots with a low wedge (against my better judgement)
I wore them, fell over on the way to work, and arrived with grazed hands and knees and my tights full of holes!

I think killer heels disable women, put them at a disadvantage. You would rarely see a man wearing anything so uncomfortable making it difficult to run or even walk.

Like a lot of you, for years I gravitated to comfy flats worn with trousers, but I'm amazed to say I'm back into high heels again (though strictly for work at home...the flats come out for walking). The secret? A shock at the GP surgery made me lose 2.5 stones over 6 months and I've celebrated my new figure with fitted frocks and ankle boots (most from TKM, so not breaking the bank). You can't beat the euphoria of getting into a bodycon dress at 76!

Oh do love a pair now and again!
Wedges and platforms can be comfortable and theses days well padded on the sole So no real reason for discomfort ?

I have at least 20 and they will carry me out in them!! ?

My go to favourite shoe is from M&S, wide fit, almond toe and only £19.50, I must have half a dozen pairs in different colours

I wonder how high heels came to be seen as glamorous? They’ve always seemed a ridiculous idea to me. Why would anyone look good going round on stilts? There’s some brainwashing involved somewhere. I’m amazed when I see apparently intelligent women on television wearing very, very high heels.

I may have worn a 2-inch heel when I was younger, but very rarely. I am happy now with one inch. I am tall, but not sure that has anything to do with it.

The really annoying thing is that although I’ve never worn high heels, I have terrible feet!

Haven't worn killers since 1967 but do regularly wear decidedly comfortable 2 inchers when appropriate. Lunch, church, weddings etc. Simply adds to my dressy sensation for the occasion. Around the house, garden, High Street always comfy flats, of course.

After several years of quite severe back pain, and consequent spinal surgery, I don’t possess a pair of heels at all. I miss them sometimes though, as I don’t really think more formal clothes look as good without at least a small heel.

I wouldn’t want a return to the height of heel I wore when younger though. I don’t miss coming home, desperate to take my shoes off at all!

I have just one pair of brown kitten heels which are not very high and it's ages since I last wore them. I can't bring myself to throw them away as they look so glamorous. They were in a sale at M&S for only £10 as the left was size 3 and the right a 3 and a half - a perfect fit for me.
The rest of my shoes are flat, only five pairs.
Sadly I can't get on with either boots or sandals.

I stopped wearing high heels when I had babies and was teaching full time. I always had pairs of heels for best and to wear with posh frocks. Still have. Only kitten heels though, can't do the six inch heels with one and a half inch platforms I wore when I was fifteen.

Pretty wedge sandles can look dressy and smart and are generally comfy . But flats for daily use.

I've suffered in the name of style since being 13yrs old when I first went into a size 8 shoe - in 1964, when they just DIDN'T make school-girl shoes in my size.

At 5ft-10ins, I didn't bother with 'killer heels' .................... imagine a giraffe-on-stilts! Over the years, my feet got wider and bigger till I now wear size 9EEE.

I love Hotter shoes - bought and worn regularly when I was working - but now struggle to afford them.

Since retirement, I've discovered the more 'budget-friendly' Cushionwalk Range - 'Skecher-style Leisure Shoes', quite 'smart-but-comfy' low-heeled sandals and low-heeled boots. I can't abide 'flat shoes' as I find they pull on my calf-muscles - up to 2ins is about right for me ;-).

Over the past 5 yrs I've been making the most of the trend for boots with low or lowish heels worn with midi dresses - it's my go-to going-out look right now and means I come home from a stand-up-and-shout party having enjoyed myself instead of longing to sit down!

Forgot - one pair of trainers specifically for running.

I went through my mine when we moved and now have one pair of hiking boots, one pair of trekking sandals, one pair of trainers, one pair of slippers, one pair of Reiker ankle boots and one pair of Reiker shoes. Oh and a pair of flip flops for the gym showers. No heels due to foot problems.

My last pair of killer heels was a cherry red patent pair of winkle pickers with four inch stiletto heels that I gave to my sister in 1963 when I was eighteen and expecting my first baby. Never worn really high heels since though some of my boots have a 2 1/2 inch heel but chunky. For dressy occasions I wear wedges or, at my granddaughters wedding last year I wore a pair of pale Grey flatforms and several of the teenage girls asked me where I'd bought them.

The only heels I wear now are wedges - so comfortable! But even then it's on the rare social occasion. I bought a nice pair of black Mary Janes last year with a small heel, half a size larger than usual. They are comfortable and look good with opaque tights if I want to feel more dressy. But mostly I live in boots or loafers!

I wish I could these days, it would make me 5' 8" instead of a titchy 5' 4"
