Some advantages to the cold weather

Oh you lucky thing - it has always been my dream to see the northern lights. Can't see that happening now. But your photo is some consolation!

The advantage to the cold here is the view from our windows - lovely big windows - the snow on the Black Mountains is so beautiful.

Beautiful. You couldn't get those colours even if you used a paint palette.

I remember seeing bright greens many years ago from the back garden at home, when mum went in raptures at the sight.

When my son was about 8 or 9 we were out walking the dog on a dark winter evening. Rounding the corner near our house we spotted the aurora borealis beginning. We stood in a dark corner and watched as the greens and reds danced in the sky. My son was entranced.
The next day, at school, he told his teacher. The teacher did not believe him, telling him that you can't see the northern lights in Cumbria! I was all ready to go to the school and speak to his teacher, but my son wouldn't let me. He just said it was a pity that his teacher didn't know what he was missing.

I was very lucky to see the Northern lights in Scotland way back in 1990, it was a spectacular sight

Apart from the lights, and the beauty of snow on trees and fields, the cold weather brings other advantages, a free pass to stay in and curl up with a good book or get on with the long put off ( in my case) stack of ironing whilst listening to the radio.No shopping or visiting for a day or two.Hurray!

I believe you, Minimoon! My niece lives in Northumberland and often sees them. I know it’s not the same county, but they’re not so far apart.
I’d love to see them, too, but I doubt they’d be visible in South Yorkshire, unfortunately.
