In answer to your question I am appalled that the police seem to be ineffective in protecting children and I couldn't get upset with any group who (within the law) ensured that these disgusting paedophiles are apprehended.

mcem, yes, Families are the most dangerous places for children and indeed for women. In the case you mention, I'd be very surprised if the grandfather hadn't abused his own children and possibly their friends if he had the opportunity.
Hence the question I posed earlier - why do so many men (and a few women) find children sexually attractive. Sadly the expertise developed in specialist police, social work and health teams is often lost when the teams are broken up (to save money)

Headlines locally today point to children who have been abused by their own grandfather!
He told them that because mummy is his daughter she loves him very much and so would never believe them if they tell.
Online grooming is one hideous aspect of paedophilia but don't lose sight of the fact that most abuse is carried out by family and acquaintances.
We can't do much to bring down international crime rings but we can have 'the chats' with our own children and grandchildren, can't we?

I agree BlueBelle The vigilante approach is not the way to go much as I hate paedophiles.
I think the police could use volunteers in a structured way to gather information but they are so stretched now this is probably out of the question.

There have been many successful arrests made when such groups work with the police.

As long as there is no line crossed and physical harm is involved I have no problem with it as a concept.

I do think it has to be understood where the line is drawn and any ' group' that does overstep the mark should be quickly shut down.

I am more concerned with the safety of our children than worrying about grown men who ' groom' young girls and boys.

I don’t like it I hate paedophiles but I find this vigilante way very disturbing and could be downright dangerous I too have watched a couple of YouTube’s videos and in one particular case they ( the vigilantes) were really goading a bloke who seemed as if he had learning difficulties Now don’t get me wrong he’s as much to blame and needs punishment as much as an interlect but I don’t think this is the right way it was uncomfortable viewing, it really was, and I wondered if for instance he wasn’t locked up would he then be targeted by local people who d been watching the video and he could end up being the victim causing more police/court time
I think these groups are wild cards and need an overseeing professional body and I m not comfortable with them at all

Data collected from UK re: paedophiles is 90% US owned sites and it's this data that these two are trying to " wreck " in a new law protecting victims as info being shared by the US and UK can be used to" sentence a criminal to death ".

When Jim Gamble was the head of Ceop it was doing great work but it was massively scaled down by being forced to merge with other agencies by Home Secretary Theresa May. He then went on to offer her his resignation. What a waste! He was amazing, and driven.

Some of these "hunters" are often a bit unsavoury themselves. I saw a TV progamme a while back about such a group. Even if some are driven by good motives others are not. I would worry that they may inadvertently jeopardise any case against an alleged abuser. It is hard. None of us want youngsters harmed.
I feel the better solution is for a government to invest properly in the infrastructures that would enable official bodies to carry out this work robustly.

Definitely some of the groups are possibly over invested in the cause, but almost the second a 'young girl' sets up a profile, the messages begin.

Grandma70s, that also crossed my mind too. The whole subject makes me feel physically sick but at the same time my thoughts go to killing these monsters who prey on children. I'm in no way tolerant of such crimes and as a family if we ever encounter such have our own methods of " punishment ".

Tough one, but if I had to come down off the fence I’d say if it stops just one child being abused and puts the fear of whatever up these disgusting people, then why not?

There’s an online site that reports on and publishes pictures of comvicted paedophiles too.

I find it creepy. The people who do this are much, much too interested in paedophilia.

My approach would , of course, involve increasing the number of police officers and support staff working on the teams that specialist in child sexual abuse/exploitation. When the FBI identified hundreds of men here in the Uk who were accessing child abuse sites, nothing happened because we don't have the resources. Several men were subsequently arrested for offences against children, only for it to then be acknowledged the FBI had alerted police here much earlier.

As well as increasing investigative resources, what about preventive work? Why do so many men (and a lesser number of women) find children sexually attractive. Why don't they realise that csa/e is always damaging to children?
I know, it's been around since the beginning of time but, that doesn't make it acceptable does it.

Something has to be done about these monsters and setting a trap such as has been described is the safest route to go down without the need for violence etc.
Staying within the law when protecting children in this way is no bad thing as many arrests can come about using this method providing that " hunters " work alongside the police.

The more of these type of hunters the better.
