I think I’m becoming addicted ...

to the GN site!
Ever since Christmas I seem to dip in and out much more, I’m watching threads, have even instigated a couple myself (oh heck - now here’s another one!) and am generally on it more & more.
Do I need help?
Or just need to get a life/ a hobby/ out more?
It’s just that some of the topics are so interesting! ?

I look most days when I'm around - much of interest but I don't like the family squabbles. I try to help with my contributions or have a laugh. Thanks, everyone.

I'm definatly addicted. .
I spend so long reading I don't find time to post . No that's not strictly true I think I'm really nervous that nobody would be interested in my opinion .

MissAdventure Fri 25-Jan-19 17:13:09

Oh you really should post, kayn. thanks
Don't be nervous.

PECS. Me too! Bad back. Pain. Stuck at home in one place quite often.

Actually we are not truly addicted because an addiction, clinically, needs to be detrimental to your life, well-being, health... that sort of thing. Actually there are the "high functioning addicts" I suppose, who titrate their drug so as to keep themselves able to work, like the Medical Doctors who are addicts... Hmmm. I will have to review my learning on the meaning of "addiction". I'm sure it has to have harmful effects! Like taking over your life in a way that impairs your life not enhances it. So that it stops you eating or earning or sleeping or things like that.

I gave up and looked it up:
"A condition involving use of a substance, such as a drug or alcohol, or engagement in a behavior, such as gambling, in which a person has strong cravings, is unable to stop or limit the activity, continues the activity despite harmful consequences, and experiences distress upon discontinuance:"
Do you get strong cravings?
Do you experience distress on discontinuance?
Are you unable to stop?

Actually á propos of the last one I am frequently almost unable to stop anything I am working on and so come to GN as a way of breaking me free from my writing or researching.

I'm a relative newby, only posted on Mick's Good Morning post which is lovely. Have read other threads but not many. I suspect that I will become addicted soon as a looming foot op will literally lay me up for the best part of three months ?

My D.D ,s son who is 6 stays one week with his dad and wife and one week with my D.D . I feel he is to young to be away from his mum this long she face times him during the week. G.S. father is a great dad and does a lot with his stepmum is a lovely lady. I want to suggest to my D.D to maybe break the week by having him back for a couple of nights and visa versa when she has him. Is it for me to say something. Is anyone else going through this with their G.C. My G.S told me he misses his mum and I know my D.D misses her son terribly that week but think it is better for G.S to have stability instead of going back and forth.

MissAdventure Sat 26-Jan-19 08:44:06

You'd get better responses if you started a new thread, greeneyes, but surely breaking up the week by letting the other parent have him back is even more disruptive?

Herbie9 Sat 26-Jan-19 16:16:42

GN is very addictive as it covers so many topics so there is always something of interest to read/participate.. Most importantly is the sound advice and humour. I have only messaged a few times but recognise the regulars and feel I'm getting to know quite a lot of very nice people.

Twin2 Sat 26-Jan-19 20:43:07

Read lots of posts and posted sometimes with trepidation but becoming more confident.

Urmstongran I live not far from you.

Urmstongran Sat 26-Jan-19 22:35:30

What a lovely comment Herbie9.
Nice to have new posters Twin2. - Come on in! So we are near neighbours? Nice. Where are you then?
Okay 1inamillion you are teetering on the edge right now - don’t say later you weren’t warned!!

I have dipped back into ‘struggling a bit be kind’ as I didn’t know how the post had developed ?.

Laughed out loud when I saw the post from Parsley3 as I bought ‘a paddle brush’ for my hair !!! from a well known supermarket yesterday didn’t know it could have a different use?

EllanVannin Sun 27-Jan-19 11:03:37

We'll all end up in care such was the news this morning about children who were addicted to games and where social services had to step in.
