Hugs for Mim...a gorgeous wee girl. smile

I've just caught up with the news.
soop - I don't know what to say. But you said it better - 'it will save my life'. x

grannyqueenie Sat 16-Feb-19 20:45:06

Theres a lot of waiting, of one sort or another, in the kitchen these days. I guess I incude myself in that too, with various family concerns that need watching, waiting with a bit of hopefulness thrown in. It’s not easy stuff flowers for all in that situation. It’s always easy to imagine no-one else is in a similar position, but actually we’re all of us coping with the downs of life as well as enjoying the blessed bits too. Talking of which, what a beautiful wee girl mamissimo!

Corner, funnily enough my advice about not climbing a rickety loft ladder wearing “sloppy” slippers isn’t appreciated either. Despite reminders that, back in the day, my dad fell off a loft ladder and ended up in hospital - doing that very thing!

What a thoughtful gift, greyduster, a lovely present for your lad. The story about your son made me smile, men do seem to have a hoovering up attitude to food I find!

We’ve enjoyed a good day today, in the company of dd2 and her crew, celebrating gd’s 12th birthday. She loves being outdoors, especially if there’s a chance to climb. Her wee sister less so, but I’d taken a spare camera to occupy her. Their dog had a good run, I had my new toy with me, the menfolk supervised (very loosely, to my daughter’s disquiet) the climbing activities - so altogther a grand day out.

grannyqueenie Sat 16-Feb-19 20:53:53

Greyduster, sorry I realise I didn’t ever reply to your question up thread about my new toy. It’s a glass photo sphere, purchased from that well known company, you know the one that flows like a river? I don’t think it’s the same as a fish eye lens, it’s inexpensive and fun to fiddle about with and get some unusual shots. I’m really enjoying experimenting with it

annsixty Sat 16-Feb-19 21:09:02

grannyqueenie I don't know where you live or visit but the rock photograph reminds me of The Roaches.

Panache Sun 17-Feb-19 11:13:44

Making a determined effort to join back in the happy Kitchen atmosphere again, how I have missed you all and it has taken me quite a while to read through and try catch up!!!

You are very much spot on Grannyqueenie when quite a way back you said that it was quite likely I was missing because life was still rather "pearshaped" here, and I did not wish to make a great fuss about it........................after the great uproar my earlier messages of real hardship brought to the kitchen, I certainly decided to step back and just get on with things....... as I knew only too well so many of you are facing great issues daily yourselves.
I felt The Kitchen needed less rather than more folk with problems.

However also I did spend almost 3 weeks myself in Hospital again, same old problem and treatments since the Consultants have stated they dare not operate now..........I return for checks every other day in the meantime.

Pleased to add though my dear man has recovered quite well from the stroke, although I find the weight of planning as well as much more of the housework etc now falls on me.He has other issues and has had several cardiac tests this past week, whilst the darned sciatica and a groin injury add to his problems, leaving him hobbling on a cane...........we are now a very real Derby and Joan!!!

But he is not one to sit back for too long and has already started a little mowing ......so nothing wrong with his spirit.........or was it the thought of joining the men folk on your special wing that motivated him????

Ever grateful to the help given and lovely letters recieved, but although we have had several visits from certain Bodies and there has been numerous forms filled, there has been no hands on help given.
Sadly Age UK no longer exists in this county and quite frankly the SS do not seem able to cope.

However we have found a helpful body of people that offer the help as long as we pay, so we have to be gratreful for that at this moment in time. But we are continuing our search for the right kind of help.

Have been very touched by the many dear suffering ones here in the Kitchen and indeed my heart goes out to each one..... where worry and bleakness exists in abundance.
So sorry to hear your news too Soop but it seems that at least you are well prepared to meet these "whatsoevers," whilst so very many of us can add that we have been there and recovered, which surely is the very best news you can hear at this difficult time?

All those playing this awful waiting game, please know I understand all too well,it well and truly gets you down......but it is usually well worth this holding on
I am in the process of writing privately to those I think are hurting at this time........I myself know the value of these letters, which are often like little uplifting helping hands to me.

Delighted to add our west coast topped the temperature charts this week.......17.5 % recorded ...........and yes it has been altogether very pleasant, especially now our daffodils are blooming here and there throughout our County.....as well as in our garden.Very soon we shall be swathed in glorious golden heads waving in the breeze throughout our county!

It seems my dear man has dedicated Sundays as my PJ day, so that I can rest some more, catch up on my friendships and simply do whatever that does me some good.... so indeed one of my first calls has been to you lot my friends here within the kitchen.

Wishing you all a calm and peacefiul day, love and uplifts to all that are laden and troubled........may you too find that inner peace.

dragonfly46 Sun 17-Feb-19 11:21:43

Panache how lovely to hear from you. I am sorry your troubles are ongoing but I have realised as we all get older we all have our own problems to deal with. It is really how we do that that is important.

I hope you find the help you need and your DH continues to recover. flowers

GrannyGravy13 Sun 17-Feb-19 11:49:20

Lovely to hear from you Panache, whatever troubles come your way, you always appear so calm, serene and able to find a positive amongst so many negatives.

Onwards and upwards is going to be my motto ??

soop Sun 17-Feb-19 11:54:09

A sunny good morning greeting to you lovely lot. I am feeling "the heat". Wearing the lightest of clothing and yet the temperature is climbing and I am all aglow. wink

granniequeenie I really would love one of those orb thingies. May add one to the birthday present list.

Thank you, dear Panache for your much appreciated, fulsome update. We do worry when there is no news.

Tomorrow's appointment is in a hospital that is a good bit distant than others that we attend. We shall need to take the ferry for part of the journey. If the weather remains pleasant...we'll be most grateful.

dragonfly46 Sun 17-Feb-19 11:59:52

Gosh soop that is a drag having to go to a different hospital. I suppose MRI machines are not always available. I hope it goes well. I did not find it too bad - just concentrated on other things. Do not wear anything with metal in it. I was allowed to keep my normal clothes on during the scan. I hate hospital gowns.

annsixty Sun 17-Feb-19 12:22:21

I hope things and the journey go well tomorrow soop.
It concerns me that is a longer journey and my mind ticks over to when or if you need radiotherapy.
This will be 5 days a week for 3 to 5 weeķs.
I was so lucky to be living near to The Christie one ,of the best cancer treatment hospitals in the country.
Some people I met had to live in from Mon to Fri as they were some distance away.
There was a special unit for them to stay in and apart from treatment times, they were free to do their own thing.
I think some special and long lasting friendships were formed.
My GD and I are going to see H later than usual today as she has suggested we go out and have a carvery early evening, that will be so nice.

I had an unexpected visit from my God daughter yesterday.
She was bringing her D to Manchester University where she has been offered a place.
It was lovely to see them both, her M , one of my long standing friends died a few years ago so I don't see much of her now.
If her D comes to Manchester I may see more of them all.
Her H is a really lovely man, I have always said I wish he had been my SiL!!

Lovely to hear from Panache but I wish they were getting more hands on help.
Please don't try to do too much, either of you.
The housework and thr gardening are not as important as you are.

soop Sun 17-Feb-19 13:21:45

ann I have two metal hip replacements.
If I should need radiotherapy, I would possibly go to the Beetson. We shall see.
Enjoy time spent with your granddaughter and the meal at the carvery. A splendid idea.

dragonfly I know what to expect. An awful din. All in a good cause.

Some sad news for us today. My dear sister-in-law passed away peacefully this morning (you may remember my brother had Alzheimer’s and died just over a year ago). My SIL was a marvel and cared for my brother so well. We have talked on the phone every day since he passed and I will miss her. Thankfully, she was well until only a few weeks ago when she was diagnosed out of the blue with advanced terminal cancer. Her days in hospital have been for the most part pain free and peaceful. Well cared for and looked after by the NHS a calm and gentle end to a long and mainly happy life.

Panache Sun 17-Feb-19 15:01:40

Just wanted to offer my condolences Doodle on hearing your sad news.
This lady obviously meant a lot to you and you have appreciated how well she cared for your brother in trying circumstances, which obviously, meant a lot to you.
Of course you are going to miss your daily connection, however what a relief knowing she had such a short period of knowing about her Terminal Cancer, and then passing away in a peaceful setting and pain free......real blessings.
I am sure that will prove a great comfort to you in the days ahead.
Thinking of you flowers

cornergran Sun 17-Feb-19 15:01:41

Goodness, I'm running to try to catch up.

I'm so sorry to hear your sad news doodle, sending a hug and love.

That sounds quite a trip tomorrow soop wishing you calm weather and much sunshine as well as a helpful outcome.

The carvery sounds good with your granddaughter ann, lovely to have had unexpected visitors too. I find I do better with that sort, I can't faff around in advance then.

Good to see you panache, sorry you both continue to struggle, how lovely the weather sounds in your area, we can't get anywhere near those temperatures, no daffodils in our garden although the camelia is beginning to show colour.

Mim is a delight mamissimo, her photo triggered a smile here.

Uncertainty and waiting seem to be ever present for many of us grannyq, difficult isn't it? I suspected Mr C was not alone in his climbing foolishness. It didn't help that after he had climbed and installed some new lights some were faulty and the whole lot had to be taken down and returned. They were not replaced. Enough was enough for one day. I'm also fascinated by that glass photo sphere, suspect one may find its way here at some point. Mr C would like it, maybe we need two. grin

Sounds as if the Lesters are all very busy kitty, can understand tension is building, please relax when you can.

So, who have I forgotten? Bound to be more than one, my apologies, the memory isn't what it was. Hope for positive news for you eilyann and all who are waiting outcomes of whatever sort. Its a difficult time for many.

I'm off to persuade Mr C that prowling around won't make his Amazon delivery arrive any sooner. He's like a cat on hot bricks. Maybe a restorative cuppa and biscuit will do the trick.

Take care everyone. Not sure what this week will bring in corner-land but I'll be checking on you if not posting.

soop Sun 17-Feb-19 16:08:05

Doodle My condolences on the death of your dear sister-in-law.

corner We shall need to check in advance of setting out for the ferry. It's a long distance and, should the ferry be cancelled due to high wind, we wouldn't be able to keep the appointment. There is a much longer alternative route. Fingers crossed that we won't need to take that option. Although I accept that it's a small price to pay for an expert in depth appraisal of the Cancer.

The sun is shining brightly. Black cat visited again last night. She has come to the conclusion that, no matter what, a plate of nutritious food will be waiting inside what is, her chalet. At least, I believe she is a she. MacSporran has his doubts. He thinks that the ears are those of a male. hmm

Charleygirl5 Sun 17-Feb-19 16:33:53

soop I do hope that the weather is calm tomorrow in your neck of the woods. It is positively springlike in London but not everybody has been so lucky. The very best of luck for tomorrow.

Delighted to hear that the black visitor has worked out that she need not hunt for supper any longer- it is dished out for her in a lovely new chalet she has found.

Doodle so sorry- you are going to miss her terribly.

Corner I know how Mr. C feels - I cannot go upstairs if I am waiting for an Amazon delivery because I cannot come down in super quick time.

Panache pleased to read you are now enjoying the lovely sunshine in your neck of the woods. It is glorious here.

Anneliese63 Sun 17-Feb-19 16:41:58

It’s just warm enough this afternoon to sit in our north-facing conservatory and I’m sitting knitting and enjoying the sunshine!

Soop I don’t think those of us who live in towns appreciate the long and difficult journey that many people have to get to hospital, and I hope the weather is kind tomorrow.

I’m only just getting to know you all, but I realise that cake is expected! DH and I are not great cake eaters but DD loves my lemon sandwich cake which I am happy to share! PS as a total newbie I haven’t got to grips with things like making text bold and adding emojis, but I’ll get there!

Doodle Sun 17-Feb-19 17:00:39

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and wishes. ?

Hi Annelise. You won’t need to be in the kitchen long before you realise any cake is appreciated. Lemon sandwich will do nicely ?
It was the kindly folk in the kitchen who helped me learn about things when I joined GN too. You will find the emojis under the heading smileys at the bottom left of this page. You type [and then the word e.g. grin and then close off with another ] and your emoji should appear in your text. To make bold just use the * symbol before and after the username.
soop I will pray for a calm sea for your ferry trip tomorrow and a safe journey there and back. As you say, an important appointment. Thinking of you.
Nice to see you again panache and thank you for your wishes.
ann have a nice time with your GD.

soop Sun 17-Feb-19 17:23:32

Dear Annelise, now that you are one of us lot it won't take you long to learn all the quirky stuff that is possible when you add your post. Cake will always be gratefully received. Especially lemon sandwich cake, which happens to my favourite. wink

Okey dokey, I am logging off for today. Should we return home with time and energy to spare, I shall pop in to say hello. If not, I shall be with you all as soon as poss. You are all very important peoples. But then you know that to be the truth.

Off to place fresh food inside the wee chalet for our visiting feline. After which, I shall read the Sunday paper and enjoy a brew.

Take good care of yourselves. smile moon

GrannyGravy13 Sun 17-Feb-19 17:31:03

Doodle ??

Doodle Sun 17-Feb-19 19:48:51

Thanks granygravy. Just watched a TV program that my SIL loved and it’s brought it home a bit tonight. Sad but hope in my heart she’s with back my brother again.

Anneliese63 Sun 17-Feb-19 20:29:41

So sorry Doodle. Today was MIL’s birthday. Although she died some years ago, she was such a lovely, funny person that I miss her very much. Bittersweet memories.

NanaandGrampy Sun 17-Feb-19 21:19:42

Evening all,

I cant even begin to catch up but wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss doodle.

Good to see Mrs Panache back too.

We have the little ones all week so no real time. It was all about the zoo today - ill leave you with a couple of my favourite pictures and ill see you all properly in a week.

Charleygirl5 Sun 17-Feb-19 22:22:17

N&G if you are having the two young men stay for a week you will both need a lie down in a darkened room for some considerable length of time. Still, it will be very well worth it because think how much younger you will feel!
