Soop's super supportive kitchen (with a wing for poorly menfolk)

Evening all,

Grampy is banging around in the kitchen as I type- we have been determined to try some new recipes as we slumped post Christmas into a favourite 3 or 4 dishes. I have done veggie rice with cod and parsley sauce and pulled BBQ chicken and wedges with salad this week. Yesterday I cut out a recipe from my magazine and passed it to Grampy for bacon and chilli spaghetti. He agreed we should try it and then this evening was surprised that he was the Chef du Jour !!!

So to voice his surprise he is clanging about. ( I don't care!!!)

Glad the trip went well and a lovely picture of you and Baggs, Soop. The wait for results is a nuisance but you are such a positive heart I am sure things will be fine.

How is MacS feeling after his poorliness?

It is VERY windy here , Sam declined a walk ( he's not daft) so we shall batten down the hatches until tomorrow.

Family problems are a real drain callgirl, hard to switch off sometimes. Look after yourself, as many treats as you can manage.

We've just bought a new canvas for our sitting room kitty which will require a change of cushions, fortunately we have curtain in the upper storage area which will work well. Hope we both survive our respective hunts. . I'm lucky I think as Mr C likes shopping, as long as there are copious coffee stops he keeps on smiling.

Your supper sounds delicious n&g, I'm sure the chef will be pleased with the outcome.

Torrential rain here today with what surely have been impossibly strong winds. We managed to get our food shop in the only two dry hours, result we thought. There's been yet another death in the family, a young man this time so very sad, we thought it was about time something went well.

Off to the ballet tomorrow, first time for us both , I'm really looking forward to it, not so sure about Mr C but he'll enjoy the music.

kitty I could not believe it but I was not awake during the night with a tissue permanently attached to my nose. I had slathered my neck and chest with Vick's vapour rub and slept like a baby. I thought it was all going to start again before my evening meal tonight with my sneezing etc- I applied the rub again and bliss. I will re-apply before bed. Tara is not fond of the smell but that is rather tough.

I will not be going near the ward, the men would be looking for ITU facilities if they picked up my cold. I do not think it is the lurgy which has been going around- it is hopefully an ordinary cold.

Pleased to hear you are back safe and sound soop. A week is a long time to wait for results but you have plenty to occupy your mind.

Sorry to hear of the 3rd recent death in your family corner. I hope you do not have to travel far tomorrow in case the weather is inclement.

Evening all. I`ve hesitated to air my problems in the kitchen, there are so many poorly and worried people already.
My eldest son, 4th child, has been diagnosed with lung cancer, had a scan and a biopsy last week, yesterday he saw the consultant and was told it was too far on to operate, had to go to Lincoln today for another scan, and has been told he`ll be seeing the onchologist in 2 to 3 weeks. It is probably the norm, but it seems so long and drawn out, and has hit him for 6, and the rest of us as well. He`s 49, with 3 sons aged 27, 22 and 18.
Tomorrow I`m off to London with 2 of my daughters, to see the Strictly road show at the O2 arena, but I feel so guilty, as if I shouldn`t be going out and enjoying things whilst he has that hanging over him.
I`m glad you got to the hospital and back safely Soop, especially if you have the winds that we have here. I`m keeping everything that is crossable crossed for a good result for you xxxx

Oh callgirl no wonder you’ve been worried. Yes there are many poorly people in the kitchen but that doesn’t mean you must keep worries to yourself if you feel like sharing. It’s what soop’s kitchen does best. I am so sorry to hear about your son. It must have been a big shock to you all. Someone I know was diagnosed with lung cancer over a year ago and is having some sort of immunotherapy which I gather is the latest treatment. Whatever is decided for your son I hope it works for him.
It is difficult to enjoy yourself when one of your children is ailing and I can understand why you feel guilty. However, you going out with your daughters for a bit of fun will not alter what is happening to your son and I doubt he would wish you to cancel on his behalf. I hope you enjoy yourself and put your worries to the back of your mind for a little while.

Im sure you know this but you will be more use to your son and his family if you are coping.

Callgirl I am so very,very sorry. I hardly know what else I can say, this is awful and will have knocked you sideways.
There will be many worries ahead, so I would say make the most of the good times while you can, if only to fortify yourself for weeks and months to come.

callgirl, I'm so sorry to hear about your son - so close in age to mine. I know I'd be beside myself if they had a similar diagnosis. It's horrid to have to wait from one appointment to the next, not knowing how things are going to pan out. I hope that they will swing into action after the next appointment. Meanwhile, enjoy the O2 with your daughters - your son would no doubt want to know that you have had a good time. ((((hugs))))

I’m so sorry callgirl, what a worry, so hard. Thank you for being brave enough to tell us, there’s always some one here to listen, it's what we do best. Guilt is so inappropriate when attached to your outing tomorrow, or do I mean today? You need the respite the distraction will bring, remember caring for yourself is essential as it gives you strength to support your son. Be gentle with yourself. Sending love to you all.

I'm also sorry to hear of your son's diagnosis callgirl - its the news no parent wants to hear. Don't hesitate to come in here to offload when you need to - the support of virtual friends will help. Try to enjoy the O2 today - I'm sure your son would be the first to tell you not to feel guilty about going.

Charleygirl I'm going to try the Vicks remedy next time I have a cold - glad it seems to have worked for you.

It's blowing a gale here today which woke me up at 3.30 am and I didn't get back to sleep again - as we were out for a meal with friends last night we were late to bed so I'm sure I'll be flaked by lunch time! We have some other friends calling in on their way to the local airport this morning - they are going on a med cruise - I just hope the weather improves for them as I can't think of anything worse than a cruise ship in gale force winds!

Its slightly disconcerting hearing the wind trying to lift the roof off the conservatory too. A colleague lost theirs a couple of years ago in gales so it does happen. We had 'the man' arrive yesterday to look at the leak and he is going to try resealing and adding flashing where it's coming in so fingers crossed that works.

Friend is bringing Mr W a gingerbread she's made so I will drop a little into the kitchen later on today.

callgirl so sorry to hear your news. It is such a shock and turns your world upside down. 2 to 3 weeks may seem a long time to you but in that time the medical team are working out a plan for treatment. They treat everyone as an individual these days and they have many things up their sleeve. Enjoy your time with your daughters, it is comforting to be around family.

callgirl, what a shock for you all. Please come and offload here if you need to. As dragonfly said, there are far more treatments now that can contain the cancer.
