Hello folks

Marydoll Fri 18-Jan-19 17:30:10

I don't understand it either, Ann.
I think it's a comfort thing for me. I feel my equilibrium has been upset this week! grin

Megs36 Fri 18-Jan-19 18:34:57

Closed shop, clique, Spring to mind then...........

Marydoll Fri 18-Jan-19 19:31:51

sad
It's not like that at all, Megs. It's a pity you feel that way.
In fact it's a very welcoming thread. There are nothing but friendly posts on here, nothing to cause upset and all necomers are warmly welcomed. Mick started it a good while ago and it has become a tradition that he starts it daily.
I for one, am quite happy to wait for him to post.

I agree with what Mary and Ann say. Once Mick has started us all off we don’t hear from him again until the next day. There is no clique here just nice friendly people. It’s great to hear what the weather is like all over the UK and beyond. Also we say what we might be up to that day. That’s it, no big secret.

Rufus2 I don't know Mick as I am a comparative newbie as well but if anything happened to my computer, going to our well equipped library would be impossible. It's only 4km away but might as well be 400 as I can't get there!
In fact I can't get anywhere if I'm not taken out in someone's car. I'm often housebound for days on end.
Maybe Mick has the same problem?

Gaggi3 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:05:27

I'm a relative newcomer to this thread and don't post often as I don't get up very early. However, I would just like to say that out of many great threads on GN this is my favourite. I read it every day, and sometimes join in, if not too shamefully late. It's like speaking to neighbours over the fence and is very comforting. I love hearing about everyone's plans, and feel for their worries and sorrows. Glad Mick is o.k, No competition from this idle Gnetter to open the thread! grin

No, not a closed shop or cliquey at all, Megs36, and I hope you will keep looking in to realise that it's not. We're a friendly bunch here. I think mick started it off a number of years ago - before I joined GN, and so it's just become tradition that he starts us off, but its no big deal if someone opens up first. They'd have to be up and about fairly early though, and I'm rarely conscious when mick posts, so it's unlikely to be me! ?? I suppose, too, we've just got used to it being mick who starts us off, and when he doesn't, unless he's told us he's going to be away, then naturally we become a bit concerned about him as we have done this week.

I'm often housebound for days on end
Bradfordlass; Sorry to hear that! Very frustrating, although there appears to be someone who can take you out.? Your internet access must be essential and therefore requiring a "techie" visit. Any family experts to hand?
Whilst members have been searching for Mick I've been searching for anything about him; what he does , apart from opening up the Cafe early, hobbies, interests, etc,; reminiscent of a Scarlet Pimpernel chase! grin
Good Health

Good morning from a cold Colchester. It dawned bright here but the clear blue sky is beginning to cloud over and sleet is forecast.
DH is out so I think I will be lazy and catch up on TV and reading. We are finishing up fridge and freezer oddments so no shopping needed.

Pittcity Sat 19-Jan-19 08:28:15

Looks like I posted on the wrong thread....

Rufus2 Sat 19-Jan-19 08:28:43

I feel my equilibrium has been upset this week! grin
Marydoll; You can't blame me! I never touched you. I'm in a time warp, remember! grin

NfkDumpling Sat 19-Jan-19 08:32:24

Glad you did Pitt as I’ve missed a couple of mornings and missed that it was Mick’s ‘puter causing his absence. It’s good to know he’s OK.

Marydoll Sat 19-Jan-19 08:40:32

Rufus, my darling, don't flatter yourself! grin

Rufus2 Sat 19-Jan-19 08:44:40

love having you, just don't try to change us
Annsixty; despite all the protestations. that sounds very cliquey to me. sad

Marydoll Sat 19-Jan-19 08:55:00

Rufus

Definition of cliquey from the Cambridge dictionary.

cliquey
adjective UK /ˈkliː.ki/ US /ˈkliː.ki/ cliquier, cliquiest also cliquish disapproving

behaving like a clique, not making other people feel welcome:

We are most welcoming, Rufus, so I beg to differ. I have never seen any nasty posts on this thread.
Perhaps we just like to stick to a routine. ?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Rufus2 Sat 19-Jan-19 09:06:14

but is in fact no one else actually ALLOWED to start a post other than Mick?
Megs36; In a word "No!" As a newbie (in OZ) I naturally had a few hours advantage in Cafe opening times, but I was soon warned off; it wasn't a race, I was told, but Mick had to come first!
I didn't ask why! Just kept my mouth shut, thinking of that poor little sparrow! grin

DanniRae Sat 19-Jan-19 09:19:36

Good Morning from a grey, cold South London. I have my youngest (pregnant - I still can't believe it!) daughter coming for a cuppa this afternoon and my eldest daughter coming for dinner tonight - my husband always cooks on Saturday night -Hoorah!

Can we please get away from all these negative posts about Mick starting the post in the morning? This has always been such a cheerful, friendly place to come to and now it's got a bit edgy. Enough, Please!! shock

Megs36 Sat 19-Jan-19 10:56:48

Thanks Rufus.........
