What do you really want to "ring out" in yourself. I would like to overcome the laziness that is creeping up on me as I get older. It's not good.

Anyone else got stuff they want to overcome?

Me too. Perhaps procrastination.
It was a fine balance between taking things easier after Paw died and laziness, but this illustrates it well

That’s me Maw putting things off with many cups of tea!

I procrastinate, but do other things instead.
When I was a teacher and my forward plan was due in, I used to go into school, laden with home baking, having baked instead of completing my plan.

Yes, I too feel I'm getting lazier and I HATE being like that. Not sure if it's because I'm getting older OR something else. I do still keep busy but absolutely nothing like I did even 1/2 years ago. I feel now that DH has retired fully (he worked mornings only for a few years) I have become much lazier. I keep hoping everyday will make me more active but alas it seems to be having the opposite effect. I find laziness in people rather hard to accept and always have done and I know that's a bad thing I shouldn't feel like that but unfortunately I do so feeling like this myself is very hard for me. Even just now I'm on Gransnet when I should be getting house back in order tchsmile I need a very big kick up the you know what I think. hmm

I think I am more productive if I make a job list. It gives me direction and clears my head a bit! But retirement is also about relaxing! We've done the working bit and tearing round!

janeainsworth Wed 02-Jan-19 11:37:51

I agree mumofmadboys but why then do I/we feel guilty having a day slobbing about being lazy?
Is it because as you get older you gradually realise your days are going to be numbered and you have to make the most of it while you can?
Carpe diem will be my resolution. With the occasional pj day thrown in grin

I remember DM complaining about feeling and being lazy.
She called it disinclinitis.

<whispers>
I don’t suppose being on GN might have somethng to do with it .....

Grannybags Wed 02-Jan-19 12:03:05

janeainsworth I think we feel guilty because we are "programmed" to feel guilty if we do anything just for us instead of charging around looking after everyone else.

I am going to try to feel less guilty and chill out a bit more!

Gonegirl Wed 02-Jan-19 12:29:08

MOMB in the run up I was making a list of next day jobs before I went to bed each night. You're right. It does clear the head.

Gonegirl Wed 02-Jan-19 12:29:35

run up to Xmas that should have read

Brunette10 Wed 02-Jan-19 12:29:58

Mawbroon, think you may have struck a cord here wink

Gonegirl Wed 02-Jan-19 12:31:24

My laziness started soon after the menopause. Was that coincidence, or could lack of child rearing hormones be to blame?

These days I do find it harder to physically do the jobs.

Gonegirl Wed 02-Jan-19 12:32:10

Yes. Gransnet. And Twitter. Between them. ??

sodapop Wed 02-Jan-19 13:38:27

I like 'disinclinitis' good word janeainsworth sums up how I feel sometimes.
I always have a list in my head but its bigger than my energy reserves. Why do we feel guilty if we are not doing something productive. Retirement should mean taking time out just to be.

Gonegirl Wed 02-Jan-19 17:04:46

What?! No one else up for entering the Gransnet confessional? No Hail Marys given out. Promise.
