Gestures, come on, admit that you use them!

I think gestures are fascinating. I have a particular way of putting on a coat which is exactly the same ( apparently) as a relative I never met.

My sons and my niece spend no time together and yet I observe the same gestures. Also the cultural differences in gestures are so interesting.

And no, I never use gestures, except perhaps pointing two fingers forward simultaneously to indicate to DGC that it's time to stop messing and get out of the front door NOW

As I had a profoundly dead parent I have always talked with my hands to aid his lip reading (useful now DH has hearing problems, as apparently I often mutter!).

Amazing how over the years you update.
for example telephone ☎ has gone from hand clenched fist action over the ear to the updated thumb and pinky finger spread over ear.

So yes Phoenix I often do the scissor thing✂ and the book thing and use fingers to represent going upstairs etc etc.

But as I often forget words it has come in quite useful.

When finished with them, I put them on the handle of the oven, Mr P however will often put them on the back of a chair!

Could be gloves but I don't do gestures. My sister does and has just almost broken a cut glass bowl here in my house with her overactive hands.
She made me very nervous.

I use a similar gesture when trying to explain how wide something is.
By moving hands (as you have described) apart or towards each other --sounds a clear as mud--

I do know people who 'talk' with their hands - some of them in my family! Perhaps I should check to see if I do it as well.
