What would you like to change for Next Year ?

I’m new to Gransnet and not posted before. Note I didn’t say New Years Resolution ? I would like to be kinder to myself and then perhaps the diet and exercise might not seem such a chore. I have been practising well-being and trying to look at things from others points of view, regardless if I agree or disagree with them. Not always successful but getting better.

Everyone - I hope all your wishes come true.

I would like another year, during which I would stop procrastinating and get done, either by myself or with use of relevant tradesman, all the things I have started and never finished, plus those I have never started.

Then if I feel well enough I would like to blow half the money I am earning from my part time job, on a wonderful holiday - if I can decide where to go. (The other half is for a new boiler).

What would we change here? B........y Brexit! Causing us a lot of worries about our future. As said, the French Government seem to be doing more for us than what was our own.

Sorry you have fractured your sternum Lupatria. Very painful I am sure. Hope you can manage to afford a new car. Accidents happen. Hope you feel better soon.

GrannyMosh Mon 31-Dec-18 10:43:24

Blinko, thank you!
Lupatria and Jenni123, and everyone else with health problems, I wish you better soon. xx

To finish a book I started writing 2 years ago. The working title is The 17th String or Sutradhara
and it's a murder, initially set in India.
I've already had a piece of 'work' published, if one can call it that.
On every bag of Kettle crisps there is the strapline 'Absolutely Nothing Artificial'.
Ideally, there has to be an even number of letters in the first and last of the 3 words and it had to be something that couldn't be refuted. grin

Walk more
Do my exercises to help my hip problem
Stop financially bailing out grandchildren so much ...
enjoy what we’ve got and give thanks
Etc

Welcome Twin2
I like your post, and agree with it. Practicing wellbeing is a must. Also what I now do is ask myself what advice I would give to a loved one in the same situation if anything is wrong or worrying me. Often we are kinder to others than ourselves.
Be proactive to achieve whatever it is that will make you feel better both mentally and physically. All the best x

I am working on just being happy for myself. It so makes me cross when people have to point out the opposite to what I have just said. My OH has a bad habbit of this. I suggest something and stieght away he wants the opposite. It makes me withdraw into myself and be the one in the corner saying nothing and not partaking in any conversation or just nodding and agreeing.

To overcome agoraphobia

To go out on Fred

To eat food again

Blinko Mon 31-Dec-18 10:15:16

GrannyMosh and Lupatria, here's wishing you both well again in 2019.

annodomini Mon 31-Dec-18 10:14:11

The only changes I would like to see would be breakthroughs in research on two terrible diseases afflicting two of the dearest people in my life.

Blinko Mon 31-Dec-18 10:13:02

Thanks, Dragonfly. A recommendation is very useful when there are so many to choose from. Is Dashlane free?

Lupatria Mon 31-Dec-18 10:12:28

i'd like to change my decision last thursday night when driving home from my son's.
i turned left at a junction when my daughter said it was the best way to go. i would have turned right and really wish i had.
going left led to a very unfamiliar road and i then apparently took a wrong turn (daughter says she told me to go left again but, if she did, i didn't hear her).
i ended up skidding on a patch of mud - fortunately only travelling at 25 mph - and straight into a tree!
i've cracked my sternum (so painful) and my eldest grandaughter has a soft tissue injury at first thought to be her hip but now settled in the small of her back.
the car, my pride and joy, is a write off and my daughter blames me entirely.
fortunately my daughter and second grandaughter are ok although traumatised and shaken.
i'm now faced with weeks of pain and having to find another car somehow (limited budget and i have no idea how much i'll get for my car). i've also lost my independence again - regained in september after a knee replacement op.
all in all 2018 has been a year filled with pain and stress and i'm so glad it's ending tonight.
hopefully 2019 will be better!
happy new year to all gransnetters.

Getting to the end of 2018 suits me well!
I want to leave behind health problems, mine and those of others.
I'd like some resolution of my DD's issues and the knock-on effects which hit me emotionally and financially, which impact on my DGCs and which cause family dissent.
I'd like to see an answer to the appalling state of UK politics.
Hadn't thought about it, but will look at password management. Thanks for that idea!
Looking forward to the major change in the lives of DS and DiL whose first baby is due in April!

GrannyMosh Mon 31-Dec-18 09:51:46

I'd like to (and fully intend to!) beat the breast cancer I was diagnosed with last week. I have two small granddaughters, and intend to dance at their weddings smile

Purplepoppies Mon 31-Dec-18 09:50:28

I've had an emotional rollercoaster of a year. I've lost a dear friend, and realised another friend really wasn't a friend at all.
I almost lost my dd during childbirth. Thankfully her and dgd are fine now. But she's still with the halfwit. I've finally spoken out about something awful that happened to me when I was a kid, that came with its own set of angst and turmoil, but I did it.
I'm still single.
So this coming year I'm going to do something about the things I can change. Today I signed up to a dating site!!! I may well bottle it before I've even met anyone (what I've done in the past) but I'm trying.
Whatever you all wish for and want good luck ?

dragonfly46 Mon 31-Dec-18 09:46:03

Day2 have you tried looking at the local NWR, National Women's Register? I found it a life saver when I moved to a new town. Much more informal than WI etc.

Blinko I use Dashlane. It sorts out all my passwords and fills forms out for me with address etc.

I hope that 2019 does not turn out badly as I will continue my breast cancer treatment.

jenni123 Mon 31-Dec-18 09:44:13

My health is so bad right now I would like an improvement please

BonnieBlooming Mon 31-Dec-18 09:40:18

After a roller coaster year of sadness, illness and accidents I would like 2019 to be mainly uneventful. That would be just lovely!

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 31-Dec-18 09:37:39

I'll be glad to see the end of all this wretched dental work which should be around Easter when it's all over.
In the meantime I must try to ensure that my diet remains healthy (no cake or trifle for breakfast after each procedure just because I need a soft diet for a few days) and take more exercise. I must learn to love exercise - very difficult for me. as I'm not at all sporty.

Sheilasue Mon 31-Dec-18 09:37:24

Just to lose some weight and not buy so much food , chocs.
Now Christmas is over just munching through bits and pieces so must start diet in new year.
Would like to wish my family and friends a happy healthy new year.
And the same to all you ladies, have a healthy new year.

Gma29 Mon 31-Dec-18 09:32:12

I am not good at getting out and joining things either, and often feel a bit isolated. I am determined this year to build myself a bit more of a social life.

ninathenana Sat 29-Dec-18 15:29:35

To have the size and shape to wear trousers.
For DD to be settled, happy and financially stable.
For DS to find a job he is capable of and which he enjoys.

I could go on ......

Blinko Sat 29-Dec-18 15:24:12

1. Carry on as we are, in reasonable health and not too hard up.

2. More specifically I want to take control of my various passwords and find out how to use a password manager....

3. Oh, and maybe get my various cards and bills on a spreadsheet. A friend does this and it must save her looking things up each month to check finances.

See those flying pigs....

farview Sat 29-Dec-18 15:03:57

Would like inner peace/happiness
So for me...the strength to achieve that!
