Best Christmas present you received.

Mine was a long grey scarf with bees on it. Chosen and bought by DS - and wrapped!! He used to give unwrapped presents, or left them in the shop bag, but his wife of 18 months is a good influence.

One of the gifts in my stocking was 4 jigsaw puzzles each of 500 pieces that are of seaside places i hollidayed at as a child with my parents and sisters. My dsis is coming to stay on 30th until 3rd of Jan and i am saving them to do when she comes. I know i am hard to buy for because i never want things. But i am thrilled with this thoughtful gift.

A gas cooker! after mine gave up the ghost in November. I did get it in the 80s.....

a book filled with pictures and a commentary of our first year in the country after our big move. It must have taken ages and I love it !!

Tickets to a show that I want to see, with a meal included. My single mum daughter leads a hectic life, so it means a lot to me that she wants to spend time, as well as money, with me.
My best-ever Christmas gift was my other daughter, who was due on Christmas Day in 1972, but arrived a week early. (One of my son’s was due on New Year’s Day, but arrived late. I was twice thwarted from having our picture in the newspaper!)

My daughter gave me an envelope marked 'A three generation night of dancing'. It was tickets for me to join her and her two daughters to a night out where a very good ABBA tribute band will be in April. I can't wait; should be a fabulous night out.

My best gift was that my one of my grandsons came to visit me out of the blue.

Mine was the effort my son made.

On Boxing Day, the day when all the family get together, my 18 year old grandson, who walked out of home four months ago, and has only been in sporadic contact since, walked in! He has a flat, still going to college and supporting himself as a supervisor at Mcdonalds. He was also complete with presents for all - 14 0f us from 5 to 73! I was over the moon -- Grandpa less so ! Best present ever!

On Boxing Day the whole family got together. With 6 children, 5 of them with wives and children, it was a crowded, rowdy event. I was really worried about the devastation my wonderful but autistic grandson could cause which wouldn't bother me but would embarrass my son who is having a hard time with the diagnosis. However, my fears were, for the most part, completely unfounded. My grandson coped really well (only one smashed glass, a box of Roses emptied to wear as a hat and a couple of drinks with toys added to them!) and when some of the guests left, he entertained us by dancing to Alexa. He was so happy dancing, it was without doubt, my best gift this Christmas.

David1968 - What's the book you have been wanting and just got? I'm a big reader and can't bear not knowing if there's a great book out there I haven't seen.

My two favourite presents were, a litle box of chocolates from my teenage Grandson who never has any money, but this he bought himself, and from his Brother, a lovely red block candle and a little glass plate for it to stand on, he has just started to work and he bought this himself, I was so pleased and proud of them both, and loved the presents.

A fence so I can allow my elderly dog (17+) to totter around the front garden without a lead. I'm always watching her but the lead gets wrapped around things...

Apart from all the lovely gifts I received was a long lost photograph album of my two daughters childhood that had gone missing after I had lent it to one of them years ago. I had asked for it back but each denied having it and as they'd both borrowed it in the past I couldn't remember and in the end decided it had gone forever.
On Christmas Day my eldest daughter gave me an extra present with many apologies and it was the album! It made my day.
She is shortly moving home and was emptying her loft and decided to look in a box that had been stored away for 22 years since her last house move. Since she's now having a grand clear out she thought she'd better check before sending stuff to the tip.
In these days of instant photos we take them for granted but back in the 70s getting photos developed was expensive so I didn't take that many and this album represented their whole childhood. I am ecstatic to have it back.

A Winnie The Pooh plus a lovely cheque from a dear friend which means that I can put money on my gas and electric cards and stop feeling guilty for a while when I put the heating/lighting on.

My family live in another country and now, with failing health, my chances of ever visiting them again, are a Big Fat Zero

And so, what's made me really,really happy have been the thanks for the gifts I've tasked them to buy for each other from me!

So, dil absolutely loves the boots I gave her for garden and yard work, while ds (a well brought up lad, obviously)is in the kitchen creating culinary delights,using his new set of pans

And I'm SO delighted with their obvious delight at their gifts.

LuckyFour - I know that my book choice would not suit everyone but here it is! www.theguardian.com/books/2018/nov/07/cassandra-darke-by-posy-simmonds-review I have several books by this author and I love them, re-reading them from time to time. I'm not normally a fan of "illustrated" books for adults, but I just adore her style. For me, these books say a lot about women, family life, and life in general...

What lovely gifts you all received. Christmas has now become such an 'I want' event, it is good to see how we (i.e. those of a more vintage age!) value even the smallest present. As we used to say 'it's the thought that counts'!

My D buys for me the year round. In fact I've got that way that I say nothing about whatever breaks down as if I do I can guarantee a replacement will be there within the week. She's generous to a fault as I'm more than capable of replacing things myself fortunately.
Come Christmas or Birthday I honestly don't expect anything and don't need anything.
