How different this case would have been if the police bothered to check that Shiela was still alive when they attended the crime scene. If they had checked her body they 'maybe' could have saved her life and the truth come out?

Presumably they didn’t want to rush in there without back up when they’d been told, by “the accused”, that there was a violent schizophrenic running amok with a shotgun?
