Thank you Paddyann for your good wishes. Enjoy your party. The same to you and all Gransnetters hope you enjoy whatever way you choose to see the old year out and look forward to much happiness in 2019.
He never gives up being stupid.
We used to enjoy NYE with friends, dinner at each others houses, plenty of drinks and the fireworks at midnight.
Sometime in the last three years it has become more an ordeal, so last week we all talked about it, and the others admitted it had become more and more difficult to stay up celebrating, when they really longed for ‘cocoa and slippers’
We all laughed and then decided to see everyone for a nice long lunch on New Year’s Day instead, which we will all enjoy.
So glad we talked about it when we did! Anyone feel the same or are you still a party animal?

I always prefer NYE to Christmas and remember some very good parties over the years. Now we enjoy a good meal at home just the 2 of us then trot to the local for the bells. Always a good atmosphere here on NYE. Just wish we didnt have to do all that kissing of strangers who suddenly become best friends for one minute. Then we trot home again. We might go to this pub twice or 3 times in a year so dont know anyone at all.
Can’t wait to see the back of 2018, we’ve had an awful year so this NYE we are going all out. All the children and grandchildren are coming over to cook and have a murder mystery evening. Just hope I can stay awake! I’m hoping that a nice NY day walk will help us to re focus for the coming year.
A NYD lunch sounds much better than staying up till 12.00. We used to have some real humdinger celebrations when we lived in Navy married quarters. Not the same in civvy street. Now much prefer NYD, go for an early morning walk whilst others are nursing sore heads.
we always spend Hogmanay with family and friends ,some years in a hotel this year at our home .There should be about 20 of us ..maybe more including the GC who all love to stay up and see the New Year in.I cant imagine ever going to bed before midnight ANY night of the year never mind on Hogmanay.
Everyone will stay here and they'll all have atraditional New Years day dinner before heading home .
A very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2019 to you all,may it bring with it all you wish for yourselves ,your families and loved ones. Slainte
When the children were small we used to take it in turns with friends having a party. The children would be put to bed dependant of ages and we stayed up, generally had a house full. This went on until the children were older and then we all met up and went to the pub or had a meal and back to some ones house.
We still tend to do something but not partying like we did.
That sounds like an interesting New Year's Eve momb, hope the weather holds for you..
We decided to do New Years Day lunch as well, a good time for friends to get together.
We are having close friends to stay. Have booked a meal out for early in the evening. Hoping to walk up a local mountain with head torches in time for midnight.
I love New Year's Eve! The family always get together, and we have food, booze and fireworks. Always a bit bitter-sweet for me, though, as I can't help but remember all those people that I've loved who are no longer here. So a few tears for me too.
Well it’s only one night of the year and you can have your cocoa every night if you want. We have a few neighbours of a similar vintage and all enjoy getting together- all contribute a buffet dish and a bottle, not a wild party but good fun. Only a minute to walk home when we’ve had enough. Wouldn’t bother with a crowded pub or big fireworks do though. We didn’t do nye when the kids were younger so we’re making up for it now.
A group of us women (all either divorced or widowed)used to go out every NYE for dinner, nothing fancy, just the Harvester or something similar, then come back to my house, because I did like to bring in the New Year with a couple of glasses of Prosecco....the others would have one small glass, we'd have some nibbles, watch the fireworks, chat away till about 2a,m. The inebriated would stay over, the others would drive back home.
Alas, one or two have gone to the land beyond, the others have health issues and so it will be just me and my Prosecco ?
Seems that we and our friends are not alone in really having had enough of NYE ( but nobody wants to be the first to say it.) Things change, we become older and don’t always want to drink much and stay up late.
Am looking forward to a celebration lunch on NYDay much more.
New Year's Eve... pre-purchased tickets to get into pubs (even our "local" down the road), queues at the bar, nowhere to sit, everyone getting drunk, everywhere too loud to have a conversation, drinks being knocked over, people getting drunk and argumentative/loud/stupid, over-priced taxis home...... oh yes, what a great night out (NO, not really). I like to stay in, have a few friends and/or family round, have drinks and food here, and I (not drinking) drive people home.
Used to love it, now get annoyed at being woken by fireworks at midnight!
New year, same old shite. To those that think otherwise - Happy New Year to you all
.
Nah i hate new years eve. Not been out since i was widowed. 25 years ago. I cant stand the crowds in pubs taking ages to get served. I hate the slobbery men kissing everyone . Plus its always cold so im cocoa and slippers person
We stay at home and watch it come in on the tv and have a couple of drinks and something nice to eat.
Not a fan of New Year's Eve, we stay at home and struggle to stay awake!
Have invited some friends whose circumstances have changed, although we would be happy to have thrm, we are both hoping that they decline the invitation!
no dont drink dont party so i am just as happy to go to bed and sleep through new year but depends on partner sometimes he stays up so i join him but just a quiet happy new year
Sorry meant 2018 - hopefully 2019 will be better.
We celebrate New Years Day as a new beginning. We take down all the decorations, clean the house and make plans for the coming year- travelling hopefully 2019 was not good for us or our family.
Years ago we used to go out, felt like it was expected of me but to be perfectly honest I would have much sooner stayed home in the company of family and maybe close friends but a the OH like to be seen at certain places; I now know he was afraid of missing something!!!! Consequently, NYE always get very leary due to far too much alcohol etc. Some years on and circumstances are different, a change of employment meant I was sometimes working night shift but now new OH and I are retired and both much prefer nice meal at home, a few drinks, good film and if we want.....an early night........no compulsion to stay up until the early hours. We still wish family and friends HNY and get together on NYD but it's so much more pleasure with a clearer head after a good nights sleep!
We used to take it in turns with friends to host NYE with the children all camping in one bedroom at the hosts house.
We haven't celebrated NY really for years. We have drinks and nibbles at home and watch Jules Holland and the fireworks on TV then we are in bed by 12.30am.
I have always cooked roast lamb for lunch NYD. This year DD, DGC and their dad will be here.
NYE to me now is a far cry from being at Sydney Harbour Bridge years ago. What a show they put on even then though I can see the difference now when the news is on.
We are going to Lincolnshire on Sunday, and will be spending NYE with a friend who moved there last year. It is nibbles and drinks at her house NYE with her new neighbours. Then New Years day, a walk and meet up with some of her family and friends (she is originally from that area) and about 30 of us will take over a Curry House for lunch!
I used to enjoy NYE with friends. Then my son was born on that day, 3 weeks early. So for the next nnn years I had to do parties for kids, or outings for him and a couple of friends.
I quite got out of the habit.
This year as usual my partner has to work on the 31st, so by the time the day is over all he will want to do is have an early night
