Mr P!

I phoned him recently to say that he would need to drive to were I work, because I couldn't get all of the Amazon delivery parcels in my car.

He asked "why?"

Errm, because the parcels were quite large, and my car (a Smart Roadster) is very small. tchconfused

Then, 2 days later in Lidl, when we had a 6 pack bottle of water in the shopping, I said "I may have to open one of those in a minute"

Again he asked "Why?"

I could have replied that I had forgotten to have a shower before coming out, and was worried that my personal hygiene might not be up to standard, or that my skin was suddenly feeling so dry that only an instant topical application of water would save me from becoming a wrinkled old crone that very moment, but it was actually because I was thirsty!

And breathe...................

I don't have a husband, wife or partner (I do talk to myself an awful lot though...)
But the daftess question I have ever heard came from a Japanese tourist to a tour guide at Edinburgh castle. 'Are there any photographs of the rock before the castle was built '!!! ?

4allweknow Tue 18-Dec-18 14:06:05

Goodness it is so comforting to know I am not the only DW who suffers from the "I've just said that" syndrome. Drives me nuts, but I am not alone!

Seakay Tue 18-Dec-18 14:35:16

still, perhaps he can spell

Grandad1943 Tue 18-Dec-18 14:40:04

Keep it up ladies; you are giving us all a good laugh in the office today whenever we manage to get a break from the really heavy workload as we had hoped to be on the rundown to Christmas by now.

As one of the Assignment handlers said when she came in and somebody showed her this thread, " those posts must all come from people who are absolutely perfect wives and partners" grin

Now, back to the grindstone, but thanks again from us all for the great entertainment, it certainly is keeping our morale up.

Beilas Tue 18-Dec-18 14:40:33

That made me really laugh! Thank you ?.

Beilas Tue 18-Dec-18 14:41:41

...... that was thank you to the joke about someone’s bike being on fire!

MissAdventure Tue 18-Dec-18 14:42:45

I think I need a job in grandad's office.

Caledonai14 Tue 18-Dec-18 15:11:05

Lucky you Grandad and co that you can get a rundown before Christmas. Some of us will be working shifts, weekends and extra hours over the Festive period to help colleagues have time off or to keep our lives and families warm, fed and fruitful. Some people here will be alone and others will be without the company of loved ones.

This is a welcome light thread, very similar to a half page in one of the popular magazines (can't remember which) entitled Aren't Men Daft? which actually pays for such comments because they are amusing and harmless.

Nobody here is complaining about a loved one. The thread could just as easily be about the foibles of teenagers or toddlers or female friends....or indeed ourselves.

Most of us are enjoying the kind of thing that would make us smile on a night out. It's almost Christmas. This is harmless fun and it's giving us some welcome recognition laughter across a broad range of people and circumstances.

And goodness knows we all need that in 2018.

grandtanteJE65 Tue 18-Dec-18 15:16:55

But surely Hellsgranddad, you and other men make similar comments about your wives? My better half's pet peeve is that I never give him any of the housekeeping money, because he would just spend it!

Any man he makes that comment to, says, "Well, why should you be luckier than the rest of us?"

Nanny41 Tue 18-Dec-18 15:47:14

Brilliant answers today, mine is the same OH, doesnt listen. He always says to me when I answer a question, that I answer with a following question, I do explain with having been a Nurse all my life I am used to having to have follow up questions! He doesnt say this so often now after the explanation.

Cabbie21 Tue 18-Dec-18 16:25:39

It seems I need to rethink the questions I ask my husband, as he never answers the one I have asked, but a different one. Not sure how to work out what to ask to get the answer I need.

TerriBull Tue 18-Dec-18 16:59:32

It's so lovely to hear that we are keeping you and your colleagues entertained Grandad and indeed that warm feeling is reciprocated whenever you interject with such pc bollocks insightful thoughts on threads such as these. Anyway it's seems that you have a kindred spirit in "Hellsgrandad" no doubt a user name inspired by his time on GN shock Maybe you could pm him and suggest he becomes your de facto deputy, surely running an empire and trying to steer GN threads away from veering into the dark world of misandry, is too much even for dare I say it a MAN! After all, as you are no doubt you are well aware, or should be given the time you spend on GN, you lot just can't multitask sad

TerriBull Tue 18-Dec-18 17:07:18

Oops sorry, Should have typed "As you are no doubt aware" in penultimate line. apologies, having a fluffy haired blonde moment confused

mabon1 Tue 18-Dec-18 17:18:45

Oh for goodness sake get over it!

lemongrove Tue 18-Dec-18 17:40:08

Terribull grin ??

lemongrove Tue 18-Dec-18 17:42:28

Does anyone actually believe all this ‘ everyone in the office was amused and said blah blah’ ? I certainly don’t.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 18-Dec-18 17:48:51

I often wonder is someone’s wife is on here with a name that they do not know ???

Hollydoilly10 Tue 18-Dec-18 18:03:51

get rid of the man and get a dog or a cat, it's much easier

TerriBull Tue 18-Dec-18 18:06:44

lemongrove, one can only hope that Grandad is how he presents himself and not talking in false tongues. An office is a safe space for a man and running an empire keeps them occupied, doesn't it? Since my dear husband retired he's been on a downward trajectory, golf 3 times a week. This is a dark and dangerous world, where a man can never be sure where his balls areshock Let me tell you he never had that problem when he was in the office!

Saggi Tue 18-Dec-18 18:25:23

Mawbroom and TerrBull you’re both quite right...how the hell do us women manage to get outa bed in the morning without a man telling us to put one foot in front of the other!! It’s a mystery right enough!!

Grandad1943 Tue 18-Dec-18 19:46:28

Well, we are just calling an end to a very long a day here in our office, but have been very much amused in the last few minutes looking at the posts in this thread, especially the posts in the last hour.

Genuine thanks to all those who have given us such a great laugh in our coffee breaks etc, especially those who refer to their male husbands and partners in the same context as they would their pet poodle.

I do love the name "Hellsdad" two posters attached to me in this thread as the office staff started referring to me in by that name this afternoon and I am now wearing that like a badge of honour (Wonderfull).

Caledonai14, with regard to your post @ 15:11 today (18/12/18), those of us without young children are working extra hours so staff with young families can get away to make sure their children have a good Christmas.
However, it very much looks as if we will be working some very long hours this week including Saturday to get through the work we have to get out prior to Christmas. I have also started asking for volunteers for a "scratch team" for Christmas Eve if required which we posted as would be part of the holiday.

So, genuinely many thanks, this thread has been a great morale booster for us all today, especially on a day when we have learned that a member of staff who has been fighting ovarian cancer for the last two months is now very ill indeed.

Genuinely many thanks again.

phoenix Tue 18-Dec-18 20:02:39

Erm, don't flatter yourself, Hellsgrandad is actually the user name of another member, NOT one that has been applied to you.

Perhaps you might like to share that with your chums in the office?

Grandmashe43 Tue 18-Dec-18 20:08:41

Your office sounds a bundle of fun, sure it’s The Office, with terrible little man who thinks he’s funny, Ricky Gervace?

GrannyMosh Tue 18-Dec-18 20:10:30

Ah, Grandad1943, so sorry about your colleague, ovarian cancer is a bitch of a disease. I have a friend recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a brother with liver cancer, and am going for investigations myself later this week. It's being able to laugh in such circumstances that keeps us all going, isn't it? In case I feel less than festive by the big day, which I shall be spending home alone, let me take this opportunity to wish all Gransnetters everywhere a very happy Christmas, and every blessing. xx

TerriBull Tue 18-Dec-18 20:52:32

I can't help thinking back to the time when my dear husband was running his empire, it has just occurred to me that he would neither have had the time nor the inclination to get onto a site such as GN, if indeed he knew it existed, but then being a filthy capitalist, he wasn't trying to save the world just make money shock Yeah they can be like that men, it's all about the filthy lucre, they don't give a shiney s**t a considerate thought about saving the whale, or explaining to their sons what to expect when they start their periods sad All left to us wimmin or whatever is the acceptable inclusive collective noun is for us, these days, I don't know I've lost track. However, in my dear -- pet poodle's- husband's defence though, I would say, as far as I'm aware, but never say never, did he have the backup a scratch yer arse team, whatever they are confused It's an education being on GN isn't it?
