The best gadgets you have bought this year

We recently bought a Oculus Go Virtual Reality
Headset, which was on offer on Black Friday.
It ‘s totally changed my life.
When I put it on I can type in anywhere I want to go in the
world , and I’m there. It uses Google Street View , and
you look around it’s 360 ,you look around
and you feel you are there.
Wonderful for rainy days, or people not mobile enough
to travel.
Last week I went to see the Taj Mahal, The view from the top of the Eiffel, Tower, and on a boat on the Venice canals.
Amazing??

Not sure if you'd call it a gadget and may sound sad but I just love my cordless vax Hoover....

I’m thinking of getting one of those “stick” type vacuum cleaners as I find my Henry far too heavy and overkill on my little house. I’m a bit overwhelmed by the choice and the very large price range. Please could anyone give me a few pointers, please.
I’m happt to pay whatever it takes but don’t want to make an expensive mistake.

No gadgets this year but would really like to hear about the soup makers GNs have bought. Only last weekend I was reading about them and with the cold weather now here and soup on the menu thought about buying one..

A mini projector to help with cake and biscuit icing decorating

A (moderately priced) food processor which makes a swift job of shredding & slicing vegetables. This has transformed our salads. (Shredded raw beetroot anyone? - it's delicious!)

I've bought a thingy for unblocking a drain with, but haven't got round to trying it yet.

How I envy you your robot lawn mower! I have told DH that we have 3 years to save up for one, as it is at the top of my birthday wishing list for my 70th birthday in 2021.

My Instant Pot - it takes the place of a rice cooker, slow cooker, yoghurt maker and pressure cooker, and I use it every day to make soup, cook dried beans quickly, perfect hard boiled eggs, rice including rice pudding, and stews.

An electric can opener, now that my arthritic thumbs don’t like using a manual one. (Not that we use a lot if cans).
Sleepyamber, enjoy your egg boiler. I have had one for years and it’s a great invention.

The thing I was most thrilled about this year was getting a forty year old kitchen knife which I loved but which had fallen to pieces re-handled. I found a Sheffield cutler who gave it a new (but identical) rosewood handle and sharpened and polished the steel, serrated blade.

With the cost of the assessment for estimate, the work done and the special postal delivery charge it was over £50. Madness! But I am so happy with it.

My soup maker is a Morphy Richards with a browning function so you can brown the vegetables first. It is amazing!

Have been thinking about a soup maker. What kind do people have?

Electric egg cooker

I bought an electric pressure cooker and so far its been great ,stew for steak pies in half an hour so less than an hour including oven time for a batch .Great for stocks too and my beef stroganoff which usually cooks for around an hour and a half .I also bough a new bacon press ,my old one was cast iron and ancient so I've got a glass one .Works just as well ,keeps the bacon nice and flat in the pan so it crisps up well.

A long-handled stiff wire broom for getting moss out of the block paving - no more bending down - not a fan of bending.

I replaced my old electric steamer this year and it’s in use almost every day. Great gadget, doesn’t fill the kitchen with steam and there are three stacking baskets so it frees up hob space. And I much prefer my vegetables cooked this way.

My neck light from Am***n. It curves around my neck, has two 'arms' with small LED lights at the end of them. Really great for when I'm crocheting in the evening. DH is happy because he's watching TV with just lamps on, but I can see what I'm doing too. It's rechargable via usb too, so really cheap to use!

A Sonic Scrubber from Lakeland. Makes short work of any of those annoying stuck on bits & cleans round taps brilliantly.
Not sure it is a gadget as such but my heated airer ( also Lakeland- I'm an addict!) is the best buy I've ever made Takes a full load of washing & dries it over night when we get cheaper electricity- also heats bathroom so we can turn radiator off. It says it uses 4p per hour- so only 2p per hour if we use it between 23.00 & 7.00. It has a timer & I usually set it for 3-4 hours which gets everything bone dry. Folds flat too. Haven't used tumble dryer for months.
Love my Kindle too.
