"Alright lovely Mum". Never hear it now.

Vickixx Mon 31-Dec-18 13:24:15

Sarahellen, thats so funny. The worst response I’ve had when at DHs work function recently & when asked my children’s ages by another one of the wives attending was & I quote
“ you must have been married at 16” I love your second response. I’m going to keep it in mind. Thanks!

Barmeyoldbat Mon 31-Dec-18 13:52:16

Mine is simply Thank you, that was lovely

An expression that used to make me happy but I won’t hear again - “Glad you’re home safely, I really enjoyed our day together.” This happened when I used to phone my dear friend Jean after driving home from a day spent with her. Jean died in October 2017 and I miss her so much.

Expressions I still hear said to their Mum or Dad, from GD, 9 and GS, 8. “ Call us when Nan is going home because we want to say goodbye”. They spend increasing amounts of time in their bedrooms but still want to see me for a hug and a kiss before I head home.

‘love you, I’m off out, will be back home in a few hours’ is music to my ears. It’s just been said by my youngest who is home for Christmas ❤️

What a thoroughly unpleasant man holdingontomyteeth is.

We are not married by any chance, are we?

Don't worry Nana, I'll help you (from my 3 year old Grandson) smile

Fourormore...if I had a 15 year old grandson who asked that lovely question it would definitely make my day.

‘Thank you Mum, talking to you has calmed me down and made me feel so much better about things, as usual. “
This from my son the other day.

Might seem rather odd to some, but it made my day:

Five year old grandson to his mummy, "Which granny is coming, is it Granny 'J' or Granny with the rules?"
Mummy, "Granny with the rules." (That would be me.)
Grandson, "Oh, cool."

As I now live with my DD and her family my other AC and GC visit here. One of the DGD I live with was heard to say as one visit ended “I’m glad I’m the cousin that got the grandma to live with”. Makes all the noise and chaos of life with two little ones worthwhile.

"Your eyes are like shiny wet conkers, Grandma"

"Grandma, you've had your hair cut."
Me: "Yes, it had gone wispy on the ends."
"But Grandma, I liked those wispy bits!"

‘Would you like to eat with us?’ From lovely daughter in law who understands how seriously tired I am of cooking.

My grandson - "Grandma, you really crack me up" and "Grandma, I'm so glad you know about football, no-one else does and I need to talk about it".

One of my DGDs, at family get-together last Saturday: "Grandma, this is just the best chocolate cake in the world, ever".

From my DH: "Your silver hair is so beautiful".
