With my birthday falling on a Saturday this year the whole family was able to come to celebrate for the weekend.
On Friday night everyone arrived and as it was my SiL’s birthday we were in control of the teething baby while he and DD1 went out for a lovely meal. All was good!
At 4 in the morning on my birthday I was woken by DD1 to tell me that the baby’s temperature was nearly 40 and they were off to A&E. I sat in the kitchen drinking coffee and avoiding Dr Google! The news came fairly quickly that it was a virus, responding to calpol and they they could home.
I was about to stagger to my bed with relief when DD2 entered the kitchen asking me whether I’d noticed the completely deflated air bed in the sitting room...I hadn’t. They most certainly had! But they had slept through getting the baby off to hospital!
They decided to go to IKEA to buy the sofa bed I was planning to get for Christmas and set off on the 45 mile drive to Croydon where the website said the desired bed was in stock.....
Which it was...but not the cover. They bought it....and then couldn’t fit it in the car. IKEA said they could only hold the left over box for a couple of hours so they brought 2 boxes home and turned round to return to Croydon for the last piece.
And then I started sneezing....and sneezing....
I’d ordered a Chinese feast and we were going to set up the family casino....but we all went to bed at 9 ?
Has anyone else ever had a completely wonky family celebration?
Ah dear - why does getting older equate to dimished brain power?
