New fad....the croaky voice.

This affliction/affectation has been around for several years. There is a name for it but cannot remember what it is. About 12 years ago someone I worked with had this croaky way of speaking, fascinated me at first. She speaks normally now!

Has anybody noticed this? The person speaking affects a sort of throaty drawl as thought they can scarcely be bothered to speak.
It is often accompanied by the word " so " and usually ( but not always) a sort of Estuary English. This phenomena is common on the radio, particularly 5 live.It intensifies if the speaker is in some way worthy and serious.
