A teasmaid

I had always wanted one, and eventually saved up. What a let down! It was like being next to a steam train, and it took forever to actually make the tea, while making such a lot of noise. I think it must be one of the most disappointing purchases I’ve ever made. Ikm assuming they are better now, but haven’t been tempted again!

DoraMarr, was it a Goblin Teasmade by any chance?

We had a Sparklets soda syphon, then a Sodastream. I think the Sodastream is still around, not sure about the Sparklets.

My youngest son bought a teasmade in a charity shop recently. He proudly showed it off to me as if it were a new invention. When I asked if he had tried it out, he said once. The alarm on it was so earsplitting he couldn't bear it - no way to wake up in the mornings, even for a cup of tea!

I have an old fashioned meat mincer that I would not dream of doing without or replacing with an electric one.

Both my mother and her mother had one similar.

Have used a teasmade every morning (almost) for the past 50yrs. We just take up a tray each night with 2 x mugs with milk in, teapot filled with water & 2 x Yorkshire teabags. We have the alarm set to brew up automatically at 6.30 weekdays and 7.30 weekends. If we want a lie-in we just flick a switch when we’re ready. In all those years I don’t remember the milk going off, and in the morning we just take down the tray and the cups go straight into the dishwasher. Waking up to a lovely cuppa under a warm duvet listening to the news, what’s not to like!

I was given a Teasmaid as a wedding present, but I didn’t get on with it.
In the winter I always enjoyed my morning tea whilst having a warm on the Aga before the central heating cut in.
It sort of started the day off for me, whereas tea in bed made me want to stay there instead of getting up!

I know that joke too..... I still use my mums ewebank sweeper.... must be at least 50 years old, great for when you can’t be bothered taking out Henry!

Always wondered if you could make a cup of coffee with a teas made as I hate tea.

My mum had a teasmaid and her house was so cold that the milk never curdled!!
She was a great one for veg cooked to death well in advance, then put in the hostess trolley. The family still talk about them with awe in their voices!

I used a teasmade for years it was a present from my daughter however a few years ago every time I used it and it got to boiling point it would blow all the electric so since then I decided to use a flask I fill it with water and pop a teabag and milk in a mug I live alone and I love waking up and having that first cuppa in bed in the morning my family find it hilarious that if I stay overnight I take my flask with me.

You're making a huge mistake by putting milk in the cups first. Not a good way to make a proper cup of tea.

We still use our moulinex (spelling? ) eĺectric carving knife every week which was à wedding present 43 years ago.

We loved our Teasmade for over thirty years, (milk kept fresh in summer in a glass jar inside an insulated baby bottle carrier.). Now in a bungalow our bedroom is next to the kitchen so we are retiring it but not getting rid in case we change our minds. It will go in the loft.

Fond memories of a beloved Teasmade that was set to wake me when on permanent nights in the last century sometime!
To answer a query upthread, yes you could make coffee -using coffee bags but I have not seen them for some years.

grandtante was that a Spong? Looks similar to a mincer we had at home back in the day.

DM was a fan of gadgets. She always had a teasmaid. I think the milk wasn't that fresh but she didn't seem to mind. Her cold bedroom will have helped.
I still have tea in bed brought by DH.
I think the new teasmaids come with insulated jugs.
What is a hostess trolley? Does it make tea?
Hotels provide a tiny kettle, tea bags and uht milk so I suppose you could give yourself something similar.

We had a Baby Burco boiler for the nappies. It stood on the draining board when in use. It also got all the hankies and knickers squeaky clean. No washing machine today has that lovely boil.

My great Aunt (grandmother's sister) and Uncle had a beautiful large house in Lytham St Anne's. Bags of room. We visited and stayed with them a lot from childhood.

Great Aunt lived there mostly alone as Uncle was in Munich with his job.

When he retired I was fascinated to find that they slept together in a small box room. In bunk beds. Yes bunk beds. Ignoring the large, well decorated bedrooms.

Where does a teasmade come in to this story?
Well Great Aunt Mavis was on top and kept the teasmade on top of a wardrobe at the head of her top bunk.
She reached over to get the tea and handed it down to bottom bunk Uncle Bob.

I was late twenties last time I visited with my boys. Uncle had died but Aunt Mavis by now in her nineties was still climbing up to her top bunk every night.

My parents used to have a teasmade. After they died it went to charity shop.

I have resurrected this thread as it set me thinking. Years ago I had a teasmade when I worked a 3 shift system and it was wonderful. No idea what happened to it. However! I have a brand spanking new one now. Went on to Am*** to see what was on the market (not that much choice I admit) and purchased the 'retro' style design as it has a flat tray on the top. It has been in daily use for the past week and I absolutely love it. I feel like the queen bee sat sitting (as they say) up in bed with my early morning cuppa.

Hostess trolley . Still used every Christmas. Many years old and still going strong. Bit of a tradition and always raises plenty of laughter directed at me and my love of my hostess trolley.
