DH has got me to wear new colours that I would never dream of trying myself.
He doesn't advise on style as I buy what is comfortable and feel suits me.
Recently he got me to try a mustard (now, fashionably, ochre ) jumper which I would never have looked at.
It suits me down to the ground and looks great with navy trousers and scarf.

weight loss was the 16/8 Lemongrove needed to lose weight to help my herniated disc .It seems to have worked, fingers crossed. My OH loves clothes is always well dressed and can often come home laden with bags when I thought he was working .Wouldn't have him any other way .I have tried asking him to cull the 100 and odd shirts in his wardrobe or his massive shoe collection but he wont part with it..although I did get "allowed" to throw out any that I thought were past it.

Oh there is always a solution Gilly ?

Chunky jumpers/long shirts hide that bit of muffin top.

If trousers are a good fit but waist too tight, a local alterations business will cut a V in the back of the waist and professionally insert matching fabric to fill in the V.

I am size 8 but the V cut has been ‘performed’ to accommodate my thick waist ?

Enjoy wearing your new leather trews Paddyann.

Occasionally DH has pointed something out which I would never have looked at, tried it on and discovered I liked it.

It always amazes me when I see men clothes shopping with their OHs, picking out garments and saying 'this would look good on you, dear', or browsing with them in the underwear department.

If DH is ever to be found with me in the fashion department he is usually saying 'Are you going to be there all day, do hurry up' etc.

I buy my own clothes too but sometimes if I'm looking for something specific and Mr W is with me he often finds just the right thing. He hates clothes shopping for himself and does it probably once a year when he'll stock up but is quite happy to let me wander round a store for 'me' clothes.

I’ve got the slim legs lemon but unfortunately I have a bit of a “muffin top” role of fat around my waist that seems impossible to shift these days . I would love to get into some leather trousers. So stylish and look amazing in the winter with a chunky jumper . envy

I choose and buy all my clothes, usually without mentioning it to my husband. I dress in colours that suit me (pinks, reds, purples, some blues), and I buy something most weeks.

I dress for comfort when I'm at work, so trousers, ankle boots and a blouse or top.

My oldest item is a dress from 6 years ago, that I wore to a friend's wedding.

My most recent item is a long, velvet burgundy cape, which was from Amazon yesterday - that's for a Steampunk event, next weekend.

My DH wouldn't have a clue about buying clothes for me. He rarely comes clothes shopping with me and when I ask if he likes something I have bought he usually says 'it's great'. If he really dislikes something he will usually say so but to be honest he's not that interested smile Despite the ravages of time (and in my case there have been many) he still sees the girl he met in 1967 (should have gone to Specsavers) smile

My DH knows what looks good on me. He often buys me things that I wouldn't have thought about. I take him with me when I go clothes shopping but I sometimes disagree with him over certain things, and usually I 'm right.

That’s a huge weight loss paddy was it through illness or a weight loss campaign?
Anyone certainly needs slim legs for leather trousers, that’s for sure.
I once had a brown leather skirt that I loved to death.

paddyann Sat 10-Nov-18 11:13:22

I think it was the 2 and a half stone weight loss that spurred him on Lemongrove size 8 I might add...lol

Leather trousers? In good company with T May * paddy*
DH never offers fashion advice ( thankfully) and seems to be happy with what I buy ( unless I spend too much, haha.)
I do remember that he took against a skirt I once wore, not sure why.

DH is very good a finding things that I would have passed over when he comes shopping with me and I wouldn't wear anything he hated but he is very happy for me to buy new things with or without him there.

My style adviser is DD3 who gives me confidence to try different things.

My partner always says “you look nice”, but without really looking. A few months ago we were going to a wedding. I said that I thought I’d wear the Marlene Birger jumpsuit I wore to my daughter’s wedding four years ago, and he blurted out “”oh don’t wear a jumpsuit, you’ll look silly in a jumpsuit.”(I have several jumpsuits.) I wore it anyway, and as we left for the wedding he said: “You look lovely.” I reminded him of his remark, and he said “Well, that isn’t the jumpsuit you were talking about.” So no, I would never ask his advice on clothes. My daughters, however, are good at giving me advice, although I don’t always take it. Sometimes they buy me clothes for presents, and I always like them.

Wow paddyann I am soooooo impressed. There is no way on this earth my DH could clothes shop for me. He still thinks I’m a size 10 for goodness sake ! He would almost always pick inappropriate frocks (which he loves and I feel stupid wearing) anyway.

I’m very impressed with the leather trousers too. I had a fabulous pair when I was in my late 20’s. smile

Sometimes, though he thinks I'm still 21 so its not always a success. My OH loves clothes and shopping and will often buy things for me when I'm not with him ,a pair of leather trousers last week! Actually they do look very good on so I'll keep them .He loves me buying new clothes and always encourages me to buy though I'll look and say I'll think about it,I hate shopping for clothes .I too am strong and independent but I dont see a problem with my OH having an opinion on what I wear. Now and then

I do some voluntary work and have recently become quite friendly with another female volunteer about my age (I’m 70) - we’ve been for coffee a couple of times. Yesterday, over coffee, I admired her top - “ Oh”, she said, “yes, I like it now too - but when B (her husband) suggested I buy it, I wasn’t sure”. She went on to say she always took his advice on clothes and never bought anything that he didn’t like. I was quite surprised / not sure what to think about that - partly because my husband giving fashion advice is a very alien concept grin, and partly because she seems a very strong independent person. Obviously you can be strong and independent and still take advice..... I have to say she always looks good!
Do you run clothes choices by your partner?
