I keep a hug of water in the fridge so we don't have to run the tap when we want a drink of co!d water, hate running the tap to get it cold enough

Always do that.
I do pedicures and the water from the bowl keeps my lilies looking fabulous all summer. They must like the bits of sugar, salts and skin!

Good idea, fivegee. In a similar vein, I keep a largeish jug in the bathroom to save the run-off water for watering the numerous plants that live on the bathroom window sill. It's amazing how much they drink.

Fellow Gransnet members may well be doing this but thought it worth mentioning. Because I hate wasting water (and am on a water meter!) I keep a washed six-pint milk bottle by the sink and "harvest" the cold water that runs before the hot water comes through. I then use the saved water for rinsing, peeling potatoes, etc.
