Today I was brave

Today I was brave. I finally took the first steps to reporting something I've been hanging onto for so many years. I will not name it here, for it to become newspaper fodder. It is part of an ongoing investigation, I've added my voice.
Can I ask you for your stories of triumph?

Well done ?purplepoppies
I hope it all turns out well for you.

Well done poppy. Hope you feel the better for it. I did the same a long time ago now. Mixed feelings as it brought pain but on balance best thing I ever did. Good luck to you.

KatyK Sun 04-Nov-18 19:56:56

Good for you.

Well done Purplepoppies, are you in Essex by any chance ? Just a thought.

Purplepoppies Sun 04-Nov-18 22:26:32

I'm not in Essex Ellan. It didn't happen there either.
I know this is just the start and the outcome may be disappointing. But I finally spoke up. I can let go so to speak.
Thank you for your messages ?

I know, though fortunately not at first hand, the pain of holding on to a 'bad secret'. It saps energy from you, energy which I hope will now be directed into better things.
My own triumph is built on that of my parents and their families, that I have been able to lead a happy & fulfilled life and bring my children up well. I never underestimate the effort that takes.

Well done Poppy flowers

Purplepoppies Mon 05-Nov-18 08:00:49

Nannarose that's wonderful. Strong role models can be really important.
I have learned that they aren't always family in my case, but important non the less. ?

When I was 20 I walked out on a bullying and abusive aunt who brought me up, and never went back.

blueskies Mon 05-Nov-18 13:21:10

Purplepoppies you are not just brave you are a warrior too. Thank goodness there are strong women like you. You have put yourself on the line for all of us. I have lost count of those who have whispered behind their hands but will not stand up to be counted. Professionals too. Good luck and take care of yourself. Please let us know the outcome.

EllanVannin Mon 05-Nov-18 13:21:29

That's very brave MCG but also so very sad too. Hope all is well with you now x

KatyK Mon 05-Nov-18 13:45:17

I have never thought that I have triumphed but maybe I have. I was brought up in a violent, abusive household. I could easily have ended up on drugs or something. Instead I made a good life. I married a lovely man and brought up a lovely, decent daughter, who I think we gave good life to.

allsortsofbags Mon 05-Nov-18 13:48:47

purplepoppies Well Done.

It's never easy to be brave so I hope it brings you peace at the end of whatever ordeal you have to go through.

There was a time a few years ago when I had to speak out, then stand up and face questions by a number of organisations.

I don't ever want to go through that again but I would in a heartbeat if I had to.

I will, and I'm sure other GNers, will be here to offer you support when and if you need it as you move through the different parts of the process.

Wishing you all the Luck you need and once again Well Done.

Well done - it takes courage to stick your head above the parapet.

MysticalUnicorn Mon 05-Nov-18 15:46:24

Well done. You can be proud of yourself.

Coconut Mon 05-Nov-18 16:19:12

Yes well done, we all have to follow our own consciences however hard it may be at times.

Nannarose Mon 05-Nov-18 16:36:41

Purplepoppies - and others - people who speak up are role models, especially those who, like KatyK have overcome difficulties to make decent lives.
My own grandmother and her sisters made similar decisions and passed on precious life lessons.

sandelf Mon 05-Nov-18 17:06:15

Well done. Being brave is underrated!

Purplepoppies Mon 05-Nov-18 19:08:40

KatyK and Mancuniangirl and allsorts thank you for sharing your experiences with me. It gives me strength and hope.
And thank you for all your lovely comments.
I've no idea at the moment what will come of any of it, it is a huge can of worms that I've added my voice to. But I will let you know at the end, whenever that will be. I'm just so relieved to be taken seriously finally x

EllanVannin Mon 05-Nov-18 19:16:37

Purplepoppies even those in " high places " can be proved wrong !!

dogsmother Mon 05-Nov-18 19:32:52

Well done. It’s being true to ones self. With that you can rest easy and have an easy heart and conscience.
If the whole world could only be more op3n honest and less afraid of the “what if’s” we would all live in a more beautiful world.
