I have on few occasions twice by the same person.

One was a lovely pair of Lara Ashley garden gloves, I bought them for my posh friend for her special birthday ( they were !! really lovely and codt me £10 which at the time I couldn't afford) anyway about 2 years later (yes she must have saved them in her "special returns box) smile I recived my xmas pressie and yes! you guussed it lol lol

I then re wrapped them and gave them to anothr friend BUT!! I did say I will explain the story of how she has ended up with them we both had a good laugh. smile

Yes. I gave a friend a bottle of perfume she said she liked and the next year I got it back and it had 'gone off'. The other thing that seems to do the rounds is the sheet of Christmas wrapping paper I used 3/4 years ago, it was used to wrap a gift to me last year, it's being recycled through the family, creases 'n' all (I recognise it as it's very unusual)

bikergran Sun 04-Nov-18 09:06:09

Oh recycled paper is quite o fey lol we in the family have a gift bag with spots on each time we pass it round we write a the date in one of the spots.

Beechnut Sun 04-Nov-18 09:11:22

bohemiam good idea with the wrapping paper. See how long you can keep it going. We do something similar with gift bags.
Not bought by me but I was given some talc by my husbands auntie and when I showed MiL she said she had been the giver of the talc to auntie.

Beechnut Sun 04-Nov-18 09:12:37

bikergran I love your idea.

smile off to work now in my local Asda ( be kind if you come through my checkout) smile ta raaaaaaaaaaaaa

Late SIL never spent on anything and at Christmas would return our card with her signature which we then sent back to her every Christmas and so it went on until her death.
Well it is the thought that counts. smile

I have a friend who has everything so I find it difficult buying for her. I bought her toiletries one year and I received them for Christmas the next, telling me she had too much. Fine by me, I only buy items I would like myself!

Maggiemaybe Sun 04-Nov-18 09:29:00

Oh dear. I confess I’m a regifter, but only of really nice things that I know I won’t use and genuinely think the person will like. I have a spreadsheet to keep track of what I’ve received and what I’ve given, so I do hope I never make this mistake! blush

I re-use gift bags too. And the ones that the rest of the family casually toss in the rubbish bag on Christmas Day. I hate waste and recycle whenever possible.

harrigran Sun 04-Nov-18 10:35:26

Never re-gift but I do reuse gift bags, seems silly to buy new each time just to transport gift from A to B.

ginny Sun 04-Nov-18 11:38:12

One of my Dds was given for Christmas , ( by an ex boyfriends parents) the socks and eye mask they had been given free on a flight.

ginny Sun 04-Nov-18 11:39:55

Oops, wrong thread. Will repost on the correct one.

We always used to open presents carefully and recycle wrapping paper when I was growing up. We would even iron it! I used to love getting it all out again each year - all carefully folded in a box. There was a faint Christmassy smell to it which I never notice in wrapping paper now, but maybe that's my ageing sense of smell.

Witzend Sun 04-Nov-18 11:49:01

A friend of mine used to receive from her MiL every single year an old-lady type nightie, which she knew for a fact the MiL had received from someone else the previous year.

MawBroon Sun 04-Nov-18 11:59:11

I haven’t, but thinking back I might get over feeling hurt as I always choose things I like and would rather have them back than think of them languishing in a drawer or finishing up at the charity shop!
Some of you may remember the saga of the “lariat” style pendant which I gave a friend for her 70th birthday. I dithered about keeping it for myself grin and was a little saddened by a very lukewarm “oh thanks”. sad

Maggiemaybe Sun 04-Nov-18 12:58:19

My dad's birthday was just after Christmas, and he reckoned most of his gifts were unwanted presents. Some of the donors wouldn't even re-wrap them, just stick a new bit of sellotape onto the festive wrap (yes, I'm looking at you here, Auntie Emily grin).

None of them would have been presents he'd given, though, as my mother was in sole charge of all that.

Doodle Sun 04-Nov-18 13:12:50

I do re gift a little but mostly unwanted gifts go to the local charity shop. One friend gives us beautiful boxes of soaps but I haven't the heart to tell her we don't use soap (hasten to add we do wash but use shower gels and hand wash blush.

MawBroon Sun 04-Nov-18 13:18:47

In the interests of reducing plastic waste Doodle maybe you should reconsider that.
I am in the process of changing all the handwash bottles in the house with lovely soap (l’Occitne) and will do the same in the shower when this shower gel is finished.

Maggiemaybe Sun 04-Nov-18 15:48:28

My whole family seems to be changing over to soap, Maw. Which will prove expensive for me as I've always preferred lovely bars of soap to handwash and shower gel and they all used to pass any they were given on to me! grin

They're all trying out shampoo bars as well.

No but a Christmas present I bought a family member was given to my eldest son the following Christmas grin

Treebee Sun 04-Nov-18 20:47:11

Not regifting, but my sister has returned to me gifts I’ve given her that she didn’t want. The first time it was a pair of earrings that retailers don’t accept back for a refund, but this time they did, fortunately.
I’m beyond feeling hurt by it.

gillybob Sun 04-Nov-18 20:49:08

I send all unwanted gifts to my DGC ‘s prinary school for one of their many fund raising fairs. They are always very grateful. I have begged family not to buy DH and I anything and put their money to better use. It such a shame when they don’t have a lot to spare that they waste it on us.

gillybob Sun 04-Nov-18 20:50:26

We always reuse gift bags as someone said up thread we have a competition as to how many times bags can be reused . smile

My MIL regularly gave me back our presents to her …! She never kept anything we gave or anyone else gave her ...so in the end we started giving them outings/vouchers and tickets etc ...that worked!

J52 Mon 05-Nov-18 18:50:29

DH’s great Aunt always regifted, some things such as napkins were 1950s vintage.
Over the years as the family increased with wives and husbands she started actually regifting what we had given her. We wised up to this and gave her and Great Uncle gifts that we’d want back the following year.
