too easy to stay at home

Yes, as soon as the clocks go back I have to force myself out after dark, not done well this week but going swimming tonight. Hate the short days they really effect me but at least the sun is shining here now. Thanks Kateykrunch, that is a helpful tool.

I usually prefer evenings at home in the winter months, the exceptions being special occasions, dinner with friends (at each other's homes once a month) or a theatre visit, quiz night etc.
Today is sunny, just right for a brisk bike ride or run but tonight will be minus degrees like last night. Time for comfy pjs, a log fire, books, my favourite home-made mac n cheese and hot chocolate.
As for now, I'm off to take some autumnal photos on Blackdown, in Shillinglee and Upper Vann (a cycle route)

I'm involved in quite a lot of clubs etc. in our area and really enjoy them all. Sometimes I think I'd like to cuddle up on the sofa instead but I'd be losing so much if I did. Friendship, fun, village news, mixing with different age groups, laughter, and also the pleasure of helping and supporting others. in fact, a proper life, not a second hand one from the telly.

I’m happy staying in (cosy) or going out (fun). This evening we are driving over to see some friends about 20 miles away. Was happy to have drinks but she’s insisted she’ll make a chilli. I’m more than happy to eat it! It’s always lovely to spend time with friends. TV and reading are nice, especially on winter evenings but I think it does us good to make an effort to go out.

We also need more sleep as we get older and tire more quickly. We tend to get up earlier again too as we leave teenagehood behind.

It's always more difficult to go out on cold, dark winter evenings, a Herculean effort in fact. As I live alone I know that I must do so, in fact any excuse (bit of a cold, headache, tired, etc) will have me sending my apologies.
Roll on Spring.

I go to classes during the day and book matinees for the theatre. Why go out in the evening when you don’t have to? We do 5.00pm cinema screenings too.

Oh once my woodburner is lit I don’t move. Hate going out in the dark cold evenings totally with you on that.

I hope the photo will appear on this post, if it has, this is what I am endeavouring to do this month to stop me hibernating and becoming a couch potato, perhaps you may like to join me in these, it would be really interesting to see different takes on each of the topics. I do go to my daughters which is only a just around the corner. I go to a book club once a month but DD2 drives me in the winter its local so only 5 mins drive but I hate driving in the dark now and she hates me to walk in the dark. I work one day a week so it means that one day in the winter I do end up driving home in the dark but I know the route well and wouldn't do it another day by choice. I don't mind going out if with someone else, although I do love snuggling in with the tele and my candles lit.

A wonderful old lady I knew used to say "just go and show your face you don't need to stay long" that was about a party or social event but it always did the trick and once I arrive I forget anxiety.
The beckoning fireside and tv? I don't go to evening classes in winter but I still go to the cinema and concerts. Tonight I'm going to a talk by a woman in her 50s who has just cycled around Europe by herself.

Like Coolgran we do lunch now. Also afternoon theatre, but it doesn't feel the same. I make an exception for the occasional trip to the orchestra. The coldness would stop me. It seems more sensible to avoid it now

I go to choir on Wednesday evenings and it's only a 10 minutes drive but other than that, like most others on here, I hunker down once the lights go on in the evenings.

Oh yes the same here, reluctant to go out at night as I don't drive any more, and I like to be snug and warm in the evenings. Went out yesterday evening though as the event started at 6.30 and it was only just down the road from me - and I was home by 8.30, only five minutes walk. Going out next week though to a concert daughter is playing in, and she will bring me home. It's in the town centre so I can get there easily by bus.

I hate it too. On the odd occasions we've arranged to go somewhere when the day comes I wish we weren't going - once I'm there it's fine. One of the reasons I stopped going to the WI apart from the fact I can't drive at night any more and the meeting place is about 6 miles away in the middle of the country down a dark lane.

Sometimes I feel like not going out when it's cold in the evenings but, actually, when I get to my destination... I always have a good time.

Quite often things are booked in advance so I have to go even if I feel like stopping at home.

Mostly, I think it's worth the effort to go out. It would be easy to become isolated.

I work at night, outside and I'm always sooo glad to get settled with my supper on the sofa, blanket on my knee as soon as I get home. Nothing will get me out if I'm not working

I really want to stay in and be warm and cosy, but I'm meeting a friend for a Zumba class soon.... I always enjoy it when I get there, though

We are a group of 5 friends of long standing who meet up several times a year for dinner and catch up. Or we used to...... Nowadays it's a long lunch.

I agree. I don't want to be out at night. I like cosied up. I like our programmes. Hard to believe i used to get in from a dance at about 4am and was on the train at 7.30am for the hour long journey to work.

Unless it's something really special I don't much like going out on winter evenings.

I can't cope with going out in the evening at all. It makes for a very short day. I really don't know what to do about this problem.

Friend mentioned that she was going to cinema tonight, my first thought was I am glad I am not going out this evening.

We did however go out sunday 4pm had a lovely time back home by 9pm.

I m reluctant too I m not afraid out at night it’s just about the effort and the cold I ll go for something special but it’s always a bit of a struggle
