Near miss

I turned into my road this morning and a young lad [young student age] had his nose glued to his phone and walked straight into the road without looking. Luckily I guessed what he was about to do. What bugged me most was that he looked surprised!!!

Conni7 have you seen the way they drive in the Middle East ? Cameras would prove useless.

They're illegal in Dubai. Don't know why.

Dash Cam useful, you can buy them very cheaply now, worth the investment, however not ayure the police would do anything about it anyway.

So what happened Absent?

I was halfway across a zebra crossing when a very flash car came flying along, overtook the stationary car that had stopped for me to cross (contrary to the highway code) and missed hitting me by millimetres. The driver stuck his head out of the window and shouted, "Watch it girlie". I was indignant about narrowly avoiding injury or death but I was incandescent about being called girlie. Normally I am a non-violent person, but, without even thinking, I swung my massively heavy hard briefcase into the driver's door, yelling "Don't call me girlie," and severely dented his penis substitute ego.

A dear friend of mine lost her son when he was killed on a zebra crossing by a driver who went through at red. I tell my little grandsons to look both ways on crossings and one way streets, but sometimes even that’s not enough.

Sadly I think they actually have to see the crime....a long time ago a deaf housemate had much the same happen....police not interested.....

I'm quite often nearly mown down by idiots on their phones.
Often they don't even register what they've done, as they're so busy having their important conversations.

This happens often at the crossing near me. It’s on a busy main road and I always have to wait a few minutes after the lights turn green just to make sure cars from both sides intend to stop. Only yesterday a large car drove fast across the pedestrian crossing when on red. I could tell he had no intention of stopping! Many use this road as a racetrack. Frightening as a lot of elderly people and young children in the area.

I think dashcams are fantastic and every car should have one fitted. How annoying for you op. Disgraceful driving.

lemon I think it would be easy for the police to check if someone had been using their mobile phone, there would be a record. I see it all too often on the motorway, more with commercial drivers than private cars.

Agree about dashcams, we have one and feel reassured that we will have evidence should we have an accident.

More and more motorists are using dash cams and taking footage to the police.

That’s the problem with mobile phones, too distracting and drivers have not on the whole given them up, even though it’s a crime. So hard to prosecute too, as it would be his word against yours ( with no cctv.)

Are you in London? When we go there we annoy pedestrians by stopping for them to cross and drivers by letting them out of side roads!

Were there any CCTV cameras at the crossing? It might still be worth reporting it as police could check the camera
