What time would you get out of bed?

I do have a problem when staying away in that I tend to wake much earlier than DH. He likes a good long sleep on holiday as he certainly doesn't have that for the rest of the year. I struggle to just stay in bed while wide awake. If possible I get up and find enough light to read quietly until he wakes up. Neither of us feels compelled to get up at crack of dawn on holiday and rush around ticking off 'sights' from a list of 'must sees'.

GabriellaG Don't apologise. Whitley Bay is beautiful too in its own way and definitely worth getting up earlier for. I spent many happy days out there in my childhood.

I am a very late riser (10 to 11 am if I can) but on holiday usually about 8am because it's worth getting up for!

I did say (in first comment this thread) that I get up when I wake up. What I did not say, is that depends on my sleeping pattern which differs from day to day. ??
Whitley Bay is on the NE coast of England, up near Newcastle and the North Sea.

You'd have a hard time finding a hotel that overlooked the Med in Florence!

mokryna I see that your tour left at 10 to 8 and your room mate thinks you should have hung around waiting for her to have breakfast!
Going away with someone - anyone! - is always a bit of a compromise. I don't do it! I tried it with a few different friends then after one very difficult and selfish person, I decided that as the holiday took a fair bit of my not huge income and was an important time for me, I would have my own room in future and do things to my own timetable.

Holidays vary. Florence is a feast of Art to see, and views.
Also with a coach trip, you can visit other wonderful places in Italy. I would put up with the need to be on time for a coach rather than use public transport or hire a car simply because it usually is less hassle, gets you there more quickly and takes in more of the sights and places to see.
You can arrange to have a lazy day in between the busy ones. But you won't be rushing around. Not in Italy! You will have a wonderful time.

Up by 7.30. 8.00 for breakfast. Might even make it earlier. Wouldn't waste time in my room when there is so much to see. You can relax over a coffee later on.

I do like to do a couple of trips in between a bit of relaxing.
At one time we would hire a car, catch buses and do our own thing but nowadays we like to be driven and given all the information by a guide instead of trying to scrabble through a guide book and walk at the same time!

I like to get up between 7 and 8 on holiday. When I first retired I went on quite a lot of organised group holidays, but a surprising number involved what I felt were unreasonably early starts. Sometimes we were required to be up, showered, dressed, fed and packed to leave at 6.30am, usually when moving to a new area. On some holidays it would be a different hotel every night or every other night. I came back in serious need of a good rest. Thanks to the glorious summer I greatly enjoyed my holiday at home this year. Up at 7.20 every day.

I recently stayed in a hotel with a bath in the bathroom. It was worth getting up half an hour earlier to have a nice soak in preparation for the day, which, in your case, will no doubt involve a lot of walking. You'd have to coordinate that with your room- mate, of course, giving her time to use the loo first!

Another criterion is how close you are to the sights of Florence, and whether you will have to walk far to get anywhere once you've had your breakfast.

Willow500, I too am usually awake at 5am but don't usually get up until 7am. I have recently returned from a coach holiday in Italy. I was the only single person with ten other couples and would have loved to explore during our 'free times' when there wasn't an organised guide. I was upset by my lack of confidence, especially when we stayed in Venice with its maze of narrow streets.

When on Holiday I like an early start so I would probably get up at 7:30-08:00, otherwise when at home I love a lie in until 9am.

I don't like lying in bed at all, but I liked a leisurely breakfast while on holiday before leaving the hotel together at 7h50 for the tour. So 6h30 I sneaked into the only bathroom, showered and got dressed to have an unrushed breakfast when it opened at 7h by myself. However, although my friend didn't want to get up so early, I was told we should have breakfast together and I get up too early. (I am working past retirement age and she has retired).

I am rather baffled.

I'd certainly be up and about by 8. Wandering around the city early while it is quiet would be lovely. Are you anticipating arguments about when to make a start?

Depends on times coach trips start but I'd shower at a little before 8, dress and light make up, and be down to breakfast at 8.30 or just after. This is same as I do at home. If coach trips earlier then I'd get up earlier.
