dr who and the politically correct script writers

I must be very naive or unobservant. I watch the series to be taken out of the world,entertained and quite enjoy a bit of overt education as well as in the Rosa Parks story. I frankly rarely notice the colour or sexuality of the characters as it does not seem relevant to me. Example... I completely fell for John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness which caused my brother great amusement when he pointed out he was clearly gay.

I like the new female doctor. Quizqueen, you say it was completely unnecessary to cast a woman in the role - I see it as a natural decision (albeit rather late in coming). After all 50% of the population and over 50% of doctors are female!
The preachy story-lines do rather grate. I suppose if they are encouraging conversation and bringing topics to the fore then that is a good thing, but it is very clumsily done.
I am concerned that the change in the focus of the scripts has happened at the same time as the first female doctor - people will associate the two and we will hear the usual accusations of nagging women!

No I am not Day 6 I actually did find the comments suggesting modern adverts reflecting multicultural Britain were somehow inappropriate quite offensive and reminiscent of bigoted thinking of the right wing in the 50s .
I do not listen to R4 Today programme anymore or Question Time because I find it is very pro Brexit and frequently promoting right wing policies.

Some tv programmes are showing shall we say positive discrimination by using all women portrayed in top jobs( the Bodyguard) which we know isn’t true.

Also, in a large number of the adverts now couples are mixed races or the main characters are black. It's far disproportionate to the ratio of the UK population (or so we're told)

Which are these adverts and who told you people in adverts are not a representation of the racial mix in the UK please?

What complete tosh - and offensive too. A clever political agenda going on there - IE: like it, approve of it, lap it up or be seen to be racist and sexist.

People are objecting to a disproportionate (extremely disproportionate) view of the world given through the BBCs left-wing, politically correct lens.

An alien looking in would think that most UK families are dark skinned or mixed race and that every one of them had a gay or disabled family member.

The BBCs diversity agenda is infiltrating everything. People want sensible representation, not saturation. That makes no one sexist, homophobic, racist etc, etc, etc.

I suppose what we have to remember is that Dr Who is really aimed at older children, so a moral or two doesn’t go amiss.As long as every episode isn’t a beating about the head with a message.

I hadn’t noticed any at all in Upstart Crow either, may have to watch them all again to see ( no hardship.)

I was surprised by the reference to political correctness (hate the phrase) in Upstart Crow. I've always seen it as good old traditional satire.
Mind you all the grumbling about political correctness is becoming boring and is often an easy way out of discussing topics intelligently!
Just stick the pc label on and feel smug that your own non-pc opinions are valid!

I haven't watched Dr Who since I was a child in the 60s but I love it now. Political correctness notwithstanding

I have many friends and relatvies in mixed race families & you can bet the advertisers,will have done careful research to get the best response to the campaign. Nothing to do with PC ..just capitalist profit.

Isn't it funny that so many posters on this thread are objecting to the projection of PC or 'leftist' views in Dr Who, while many posters on this forum and on Facebook accuse the BBC of right wing/pro Brexit bias.

I couldn't envisage anything more mind-numbingly crass to watch. Absolute rubbish.

I do agree, Petunia, the "messages" are laid on a bit thick - but I still enjoyed the storyline.

Afraid I don't like some of the other drama's either. I watch TV to be taken out of reality not terrified. Did not like Bodyguard or The Cry and there are some similar ones coming up I believe.

If BBC want to charge Pensioners I shall ask to opt out.

I'm not very keen on the new Dr Who. She's extremely annoying and trying much too hard and it was completely unnecessary to cast a woman in the role.. The BBC seeks to indoctrinate its left wing diversity agenda at every opportunity, Did anyone also notice when the baddie asked his worker, 'Who are you?' She replied, 'I'm your niece's wife'.

All the white actors/actresses will be out of work soon! On a positive note, some comedians are experiencing a downturn in sales in the towns (not cities) because a lot of their audiences are fed of paying to listen to their leftie (anti Brexit) banter.

As lifelong Dr Who fan I too am about to give up. I don’t know if it is the script or her acting but I find Jody Whittaker as irritating as an untrained puppy. Although the Rosa Parks episode was good, I want escapism, not a history lesson! Bring back David Tennant.

I think they are doing a great job. To keep something fresh like this after 50 years is brilliant and they are succeeding. Rosa Parks episode was great. This reminds me I need to catch up on an episode.

I'm getting fed up with nearly every post that has been done by a male, now being done by a woman - Zoe Ball, Holly Willoughby, Jodie Whitaker, etc. I like listening to men's voices too. It's even happening on our local BBC radio.

Oh I love Bradley in anything so hope he stays as companion and I like the others too. I don't like the Dr being so ..unsure. needy.

I am determind to like the new Dr as she's female but am struggling . I was scared of the spiders and then actually felt sad for the big one that died. Eclestone did take a while to settle in. I didn't like him at first. The first Dr was my one. I was in the 5th form then. I really disliked Matt Smith. Hated him and the assistants and didn't like Clara. Loved Tennant and liked Eclestone by the end. I hope the stories get better, but lots of those for the last Dr were pants.

Peter Capaldi is also Scottish Grandma2213 and , much as I love hearing a Scottish voice, as a Scot myself, I don’t necessarily expect actors to speak in their own accent unless the Director so chooses.
Oddly Christopher Ecclestone was not a Doctor I warmed to but we each have our favourites I expect.

Never ever seen any Doctor Who and have lived a good life without it. If you don't care for it don't watch it and stop moaning.

I watched it in the early days. My husband loves it so I go to bed while he watches it on catch up. On Sunday I decided to watch with him to see what all the fuss regarding the new doctor was about. I lasted fifteen minutes. I found the acting forced and the female doctor, who I’ve liked in other shows, massively out of her depth in the role. It used to be a fun programme. This was cringe worthy.
