Oh bless you gillybob. What a rotten hand. It must still hurt thinking of all you had to cash in to pay HMRC. No wonder you feel down some days. Sounds as though you and your husband work really hard, employ people and don’t see the reward for all your effort. No wonder Monday seems like ‘groundhog day’ to you.

Yes, We did. Noah's Ark. I've been to the distillary many times and I always enjoy the summer fete and cricket on the village green.
I feel fortunate to live in such a nice area and here's a pic taken on a walk on Blackdown last year and one of sunset taken 2 weeks ago near to town.

Oh Gilly I’m sorry you’re feeling like this. You seem to have had a good day today though so maybe repeat it next week or plan something different so that you’d have it to look forward to? Your loyalty and commitment to your family is second to none and it seems so unfair that you have these financial worries through no fault of your own. Could you maybe do something in the office to take your mind off how much you hate it? Even talking to us! I wish I could be of more help.

gillybob, at least you know that you did the right (and honourable) thing at the time. I’m pleased your day at least turned out better than you expected. Fingers crossed for a better week as well. I’m another who would love to live by the sea again - I didn’t appreciate it enough when it was on my doorstep.

Gilly as Nfk says you did what you felt right in those circumstances & with the information you had at that time. HMRC can appear really scary and horribly demanding and when you are under stress you do whatever you can and for the best of reasons too. Don't beat yourself up about things you cannot change. Wish I was super rich to help out.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing gilly. You did what seemed right at the time and it could have been right too if the financial slump hadn't been as big. I hope things come right for you.

We have been fools PECS . At the start of the financial crisis 2 of our main customers went down owing us considerable amounts of money. We should have followed them and declared ourselves insolvent. It came to a head and we owed HMRC a lot of money and I was terrified (they were like wolves, out for blood) so being the type of idiots we are, we sold our house, caravan, cashed in our pensions and took a huge loan out to pay them off and keep going, weather the storm and keep the lads in jobs. To be honest we have never recovered financially or mentally.

Gilly so sorry that you have this gloom hanging over you. I have never been in 'business' but have family & friends who have been and are. Small independent businesses I know have suffered badly for a long time due to various governments' decisions/policies. One of the reasons my brother lives with me is due to the stress and strain of running his own business. It cost him everything. I hope that DHs and your hard work and commitment help you get through the tough time and that things will be brighter soon

I would love to travel Barmeyoldbat but sadly can’t due to lack of funds (and debts) . I would love to cycle but I can’t as my legs are not strong enough (due to my MS) I have tried in the past but ended up making myself quite poorly. I don’t have a camera, other than my phone which is not quite the same is it? (my son is a brilliant photographer btw....)
I do love walking along the beach and collecting sea glass.

I also enjoy reading (currently in the middle of “Britt Marie was here” by the same author as A Man called Ove, Fredrick Backman and translated from Swedish) .

This afternoon I planted up my winter hanging basket and tidied the garden. I cleaned the downstairs loo and fitted a new toilet seat (something I’ve been meaning to do for ages) . So all in all it was quite a productive day for a Monday Eve.

As usual for this time I am VERY down thinking about tomorrow and the daunting week ahead.

I’m with you Craftycat. In fact today, apart from making lunch for my aunt, who I’m staying with for 5 days to give her husband a mini break (he cares for her 24/7 as she has mobility problems but won’t claim allowance as he says it’s what couples ‘in their 70’s’ do, bless) .... my day has been my own. My aunt loves television and I love reading so we’ve sat alongside one another all day in the sitting room, quite happily. Fortunately, I’m able to ‘zone out’ when I’m reading so the tv doesn’t bother me in the least. X Factor, The Chase, now Butterfly. But I’ve really enjoyed my reading. Bliss!

As long as I have a good book I'm never bored. I could read all day given the chance.

Gilly I have a list of things I want to do, I think its called a bucket list. Things like get a photo in the Country file Calendar, travel to Japan by train and boat (expensive but I can dream and plan). I have a husband who is often out running, like today, so I got the cycle map out and took myself off in the car and then went cycling on my own and took my new camera to have a go at getting a good picture. I don't have any close friends that I can go with and my family is very small but I don't feel bored on my own. Why not fill you some of your free time trying something new. You never know.

Make a jigsaw. Best if you have somewhere where you can leave it and do it a bit at a time.

Baking, Netflix, Read a book, Gym for swim, steam room, Jacuzzi. I do like Christmas movies on T V. You are lucky you have beach nearby. I am envious.

A lot of Adult Education Centres do "one-off" Saturday classes. You could try out a different thing every Saturday!

I would love to live by the sea,but failing that is all my dog,read a lot,listen to loads of music and invested in a ps3 and play games which i actually find very therapeutic

Find a hobby. I knit,cross stitch do crosswords, bake. Read. I’m also a comper ,so I can always find something to do. A lazy Sunday stretched out before me is heaven and keeps me busy. Find something you fancy trying

Gillybob, I really feel for you. As a small step, could you do something to cheer up your office? Even buying a interesting plant or repainting it even .
And lots of other ideas on here. All best wishes.
