Cordless vacuum cleaners

I have a vax air and a shark,both came with 1 battery each,i do like them both but the shark is the most powerful by far! I like the Vax air because its really light but only good for a 'light' clean.... And needs emptying ALOT of else it won't pick up. But i have a very busy house with 3dogs.... So i do ask alot of my Hoovers ?

Recently got a GTech hoover and it's absolutely brilliant - also got the hand held GTech that's great for stairs, ceilings, etc. You can see exactly how much dirt there is in the see through part and it's very easy to empty. The brush is very easy to clean - there's a groove to run scissors along to cut hair that's become wrapped around the brush. Can't fault it.

Use Dyson all the time now and 'real' vacuum cleaner mostly stays in cupboard except for more thorough cleaning eg when visitors due. Only problem is the charge on Dyson doesn't last very long, never has. Supposed to last 20-25 mins but if it makes it to 10 mins then that's a good day. Still wouldn't be without it so light and easy to use.

If your Dyson is not lasting very long after charging, it might be because you have it on Max, which is easy to do by mistake. Its the button in the middle.
My one beef about the Dyson animal is the faff with emptying.

Had an older Dyson cordless, then they sent me the new model in exchange for a review ( didn’t need to be a complimentary one?) Passed the older one onto DD who has two very furry cats. Both Dysons do a great job and have never broken down. I did buy a second, generic filter when we were having building work done and there was lots of clogging dust, but have never found the canister difficult to empty.

Love my cordless Dyson, for a quick wiz around the house every morning it's brilliant! I also use a corded for a full house Hoover but would never be without my trusty Cordless!

Recently bought the Gtech Air Ram and Multi ram. It’s a revelation! So light and easy to use, the light shows up all the dirt and bits, and it’s super easy to empty. The battery comes out for recharging or it can stay in if you store it near a plug. Long running time and recharges quickly too. My son saw mine and immediately ordered one for his own house. The multi does the stairs and odd bits, also has a light and easy to empty. Came with a bag of tools for doing the car. When I tested the Dyson in store it felt awkward with the motor on the handle, but the Gtech is a dream to use.

I have a Hoover. Bought on sale from Argos. Really pleased with it.

Agree re Gtech have both hand held and floor - both hold battery charge for flipping ages and very light and easy to use. and DH has Gtech lawnmower which he loves - says it takes him half the time it used to mow lawn

I've got a Gtech and a Dyson. Love them both and can't remember the last time I lugged the big old corded dinosaur round the house!

Tried a Dyson a few years ago and hated it. Only kept it 6 months. I now have a Gtech and love it! Light & very efficient on carpet and hard flooring

G-tech for me - the floor model. The best thing about it is how easy it is to empty but I also love how quickly I can do the whole house which is on one level. My friend has the hand held as she has a much bigger house and staircase and is also delighted with it.

I have a Dyson Absolute Pro, bought earlier this year. An Absolutely overpriced and underperformer, wouldn't buy again. Needs emptying every 5 minutes, takes ages to recharge, the filters need washing frequently and take a couple of days to dry, so can't use it during that time, and I can suck harder with a drinking straw!

Bosch Athlet. not cheap but one of the best purchases we've made. lightweight.

I love my shark it has a light on the head so you can see any bits in palces that are a bit dark.

Love my Dyson and so do the DGC!! No problems with it so far. My DD tells me that Shark are also v.good

I must be the only one with a Bosch. I thought they were more popular.

Oh I've just seen a Bosch owner who wasn't happy with it. oops. also dishwasher. Very unlucky. Ours has worked well for 5 years ( touch wood).

Many thanks for all your replies - quite a mixed response for different makes. Shark sounds good but pricey. Going to Cheltenham this week - I believe there’s a new John Lewis just opened there, so I’ll have a look at what they have in stock. Thanks again - some really helpful comments

I spent all afternoon researching cordless cleaners because my Miele is on its last legs.
I ‘ve decided on a Bosch Athlet and will order it tomorrow. I waited years for cordless vacuums to reach the UK, all the time expecting to die from the hose and cord wrapping themselves round my legs on the stairs.

I have both the Gtech air ram and the Gtech multi. I cannot recommend them enough.

I hope you are making the right decision Watermeadow. ( although I have one) others seem to be more popular. We bought it as Which recommended it at the time.

I have the GTech Air Ram K9 (I have 3 dogs!) and I have to say it is the absolute BEST vac I have ever had! Over the years I think I've had them all - Dyson, Hoover, Miele, Vax, Electrolux. My wonderful Air Ram beats all of them hands down!
So lightweight but really powerful, a single charge lasts long enough to do my bungalow twice, really easy to manoeuvre and gets under furniture easily. I love it! I also have the GTech hand held plus tools, another brilliant gadget. Will never buy another brand ever again!

We had a GTech but it couldn't cope with long hairs - my daughter's hair goes down to her waist. The hairs kept clogging up the brush and were extremely difficult to remove.
