And coming in at number 1, is "You should have left that, I would have done it"

This is usually applied to clearing up, washing up, emptying/loading the dishwasher, and nearly always used just as any of the aforementioned tasks have been completed.hmm

And, at number 2 is "Oh, I didn't know that you saving/wanted that." This can be applied to many things, but that cold sausage ( or sometimes in my case, a cold onion bahjee blush) that you were really looking forward to can almost justify some sort of physical reaction, especially if insult has been added to injury by leaving the EMPTY greasy plate in the fridge angry

And, although this isn't a phrase, so I am guilty of deviating from my own OP, I dont think that leaving the hall light on so that I could actually see the cat vomit and avoid stepping in it, goes anywhere near to actually getting a bit of kitchen roll and cleaning it up!

A bit like Greyduster, for twenty years he said, “I’m not deaf, it’s the tone of your voice.” Now has hearing aids and the Audiologist said that he has lost all the sound range for speech!

‘BUT’... at the start of every sentence, regardless of what is being said! ?

VIOLETTE, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is not a subject of which I have any knowledge. May I suggest that you start a new thread so that more people will see and reply. Go to 'Forums', select 'Health' heading and then 'start a new discussion'. I hope you will get reassurance from those with experience of this condition.

Not at home as I have the luxury of living alone but ....... am I the only one on GN to be irritated by the increasing use of " Don't get me started on ....." or "political correctness gone mad" ??

Is there any more tea left in the pot? heard at least twice a day.

Oh gmelon that is scary. Once each side would be enough. I am resting, I disappear each afternoon to my bedroom and invariably end up fast asleep for at least an hour, but I am not known for my patience and sitting too long makes me stiff so it is finding the right balance at the moment.
The problem with OH is that he seriously can't see an issue. He says my standards are too high, something not usually said ever about my housekeeping. hmm

With my late husband it was mainly driving related. "No need to use the satnav. I know the way" before getting hopelessly lost. " We don't need to stop and ask directions. It must be down here somewhere" It never was. Refusing to turn back, "If we turn left up here, we are bound to hit the right road." No we are not. Also, his refusal to stop for fuel until we were down to the last spoonful.
Car journeys aren't half as much fun now!

'we' are not bothering with Christmas presents this year are 'we'?
My sense of smell is so much better than yours, you will need to buy more milk
No I didnt know the cat had just pooed in the litter
You just don't know how to : stack the dishwasher/load the washing machine/ set the tumble dryer/ etc properly.......
Now that I am retired you only have to ask me......
No, I didnt dust round while you were at work, it doesn't need it...........
shall I go one????

"Oh, I meant to do that..." may yet result in murder.

petra Tue 23-Oct-18 19:09:19

"You put that there"
This usually involves his shed or the desk as in, he's looking for something, can't find it, asks me if I've seen 'it'
I go to said shed or desk and there 'it' is.
The one that usually ends up with the cold silence is: "She said" as in the satnav when I know that 'she's' directed us wrong.

' I'll just be five minutes". When you have said dinner is ready, you are waiting to go out etc

"I'm coming up now" when I have just announced I'm on my way up to bed.
It's nearly always an hour later, and sometimes 4:30 am before he actually comes to bed!

We’ll both be watching the television but then he’ll get bored and decide to do something else (very short attention span!) as he gets up he’ll pick up the remote control and say ‘Do you still want this on?’ Why would I not want the TV on just because he’s decided not to watch it? It drives me crazy every time. He’s also frequently switched the light off as he leaves the room and left me in the dark!

"This b****y thing isn't working", when what he means is "I must have done something wrong (again). I hear it several times a day in relation to some appliance / gadget or another!

Chewbacca Tue 23-Oct-18 20:20:50

He's in the living room, watching tv.
I'm in the kitchen, 2 rooms and 3 brick walls away, making a meal. Cooker and extractor fan both going full blast.
He shouts from the living room, "Chewbacca, have you seen this?"

No, I haven't seen it because I can't see through 3 brick walls. It happens Every. Single. Night.

hillwalker70 Tue 23-Oct-18 20:24:06

Ye Gods, I am so pleased I live alone, I would be up for murder, how do you put up with it.

kathsue Tue 23-Oct-18 20:44:40

My DH always used to talk to me while I was vacuuming. So I'd switch it off to ask him what he'd said. Eventually he'd how much longer is it going to take.
"It'll take all bl**dy day if you don't stop interrupting me!!!"

kathsue Tue 23-Oct-18 20:45:39

*he'd ask how much longer

Melanieeastanglia Tue 23-Oct-18 20:48:08

I can't stop laughing at Phoenix's last paragraph about the cat vomit. Perhaps I am being unkind.

I can actually top it, although it's not for those of a delicate nature!

A few years ago we had friends staying (luckily, very good and easy going friends) Mr P was having to leave very early for work, and one of the cats we had at the time (now buried in the garden) had got a bit (ahem) haphazard with regard to toilet arrangements blush

Mr P had encountered a deposit in the hall, and before leaving had very helpfully written a notice in large letters in black marker pen saying "Cat poo, beware!" with an arrow on it and sellotaped it to the hall table!

My friend when visiting:
“Don’t worry about the washing up - you can do it tomorrow”
Me: “I thought for a moment you were going to offer!”
Him: “ But ... you haven’t got a dishwasher!”

40 years ago when we were first married, I tried to discuss division of housework. Silly me, his reply was”Housework is a bourgeois concept!”
Last week he said, as I was about to start hoovering rather late in the afternoon “Don’t do that now ... do it tomorrow!
I thought at first he was at last going to do it.
