Anyone ready to start knitting royal baby jackets?

maddyone Tue 16-Oct-18 09:57:33

I agree with you totally easybee.
.

Jalima1108 Tue 16-Oct-18 10:00:51

eazybee I agree

We only know what the msm has told us. Perhaps they had already told close family beforehand, quietly, not wanting to steal the limelight, but, as travelsafar has said, other members of the wider family, friends etc were asking her why she wasn't have a wine at the reception.

Anniebach Tue 16-Oct-18 10:00:56

I would say the same of anyone who announced a pregnancy on their cousins wedding day.

It was the media who said the announcement was made at the reception .

Jalima1108 Tue 16-Oct-18 10:02:49

I would be concerned about any woman who was flying, particularly long-haul, in her first trimester, so presumably she is further on that 12 weeks and the medical advice was that it was fine to go.

merlotgran Tue 16-Oct-18 10:15:30

Apparently Meghan will still travel to Fiji and Tonga despite risks from the zika virus. She will avoid rain forest areas.

They've obviously taken medical advice but I'm not sure I'd want to chance it.

mcem Tue 16-Oct-18 10:17:01

Rather than distract from his sister's wedding day, my son and DiL announced their engagement exactly one month later.
I'd bet close family knew before the wedding day.

Anniebach Tue 16-Oct-18 10:33:06

I think so mcem , nothing happens in the Windsor family without queenie being in the know. I realy do believe it was all arrange to announce it in Australia .

Jalima1108 Tue 16-Oct-18 10:33:39

hmm

Strong insect repellent? but I'm not sure if that is a good idea when you're pregnant.

Margs Tue 16-Oct-18 10:38:48

All the best - I wonder if HRH will beat Queen Victoria's record for Great Grandchildren at this rate!

A small caveat though: How will Buck House deal with Meghan's grumpy Dad and free-loading half siblings who will surely try to cash in on the advent of a new Royal? It seems like the only relative she can count on is her Mother who exemplifies discretion, diplomacy and dignity.

Anniebach Tue 16-Oct-18 10:49:49

I am quite sure they will be ignored. Anyway Americans are already claiming a stake in the British royal family ?. They have forgotten the American buried in Frogmore where many Windsors are buried

Bridgeit Tue 16-Oct-18 11:00:46

I’m sorry I just don’t get it, which I have already said in an earlier post, perhaps it us Grannies that think of it in a negative way.
In families I know everyone is happy for each other’s Good news, now if someone had bad news to depart, then that would be a reason for waiting until a happy occasion had passed before announcing it.

Rufus2 Tue 16-Oct-18 11:32:35

I am quite sure they will be ignored
Not by Aussies, that's for sure! grin Day 1 was so stunning in Sydney, with perfect weather, harbour views, ecstatic crowds at the magnificent Opera House, marvellous crowd reception. And it will soon be our turn in Melbourne. Can't wait! I was glued to the TV all the way; so much more to come, all live. Awesome!
Back home, I suppose all fashionistas have snapped up all army-surplus trench-coats and thrown out their beige cardies.! wink A wonderful opportunity to forget your troubles, for a while at least, and relax. OoRoo

annsixty Tue 16-Oct-18 11:52:57

After seeing the photographs of the Duchess in a tight white dress yesterday , there was certainly no need for the big unfastened coat on Friday.

Bridgeit Tue 16-Oct-18 11:59:13

I must live in a different world, I didn’t pay any attention to her undone coat & if I had I would not have put those connotations that you have mentioned - Annsixty- am I being naive, do people play such games? ?

Brunette10 Tue 16-Oct-18 11:59:37

Annsixty - exactly what I thought! Think Megan will have a very neat bump.

Anniebach Tue 16-Oct-18 12:13:38

My younger daughter and I were watching the wedding and chatting on the phone, my daughter said ‘ look at her coat, she’s pregnant . As Megan always wear figure hugging clothes or coats with a belt I thought the same. But agree with Annsixty, after seeing her in the tight white dress yesterday , why a very loose coat.

Mapleleaf Tue 16-Oct-18 13:35:30

I agree with all you say, eazybee. It’s so easy to make assumptions from our armchairs, isn’t it. As none of us were there, we don’t know exactly what was said and when it was said. Let them be.

Rufus2 Tue 16-Oct-18 14:05:41

we don’t know exactly what was said
Mapleleaf: I'm studying lip-reading and Harry was saying "thank goodness we've got away from that b....y English weather" grin

gillybob Tue 16-Oct-18 15:12:51

I’m sure there must be something you could do to keep them there rufus

annsixty Tue 16-Oct-18 15:44:13

Yes Bridgeit some people do play such games.
They are called attention seekers.

Anniebach Tue 16-Oct-18 16:47:18

Looking at people dressed for a wedding and chatting about it is playing games ?

Bridgeit Tue 16-Oct-18 16:58:49

Well Annsixty, if that’s the case, I consider it so covert that it has gone over the heads of a lot of people- but thank you for pointing it out - I will endeavour to observe future situations with a more critical eye ?

Mapleleaf Tue 16-Oct-18 17:22:46

Maybe you are Rufus ?? but you were not at the wedding reception.

Jalima1108 Tue 16-Oct-18 17:52:15

I'm studying lip-reading and Harry was saying "thank goodness we've got away from that b....y English weather"
Just looking at reports of freak storms over there, Rufus, producing hail stones the size of golf balls! Stay indoors wink

TerriBull Tue 16-Oct-18 18:13:53

I think there's a difference between parading your children, The Beckhams don't appear to afford their offspring any privacy whatsoever, and the photocalls that the royal family are expected to do at certain intervals in their children's lives. George and Charlotte have been photographed of late because they have been bridesmaid and page boy at a couple of high profile weddings. Their parents don't put daily updates of their children on public forums. I imagine if they had their way they'd keep them under wraps for as long as possible.
