Anyone ready to start knitting royal baby jackets?

Fennel Mon 22-Oct-18 12:58:24

I think it's more the fault of whoever planned this state visit for them at this stage of her pregnancy.
Maybe it was planned ages ago, and they didn't want to cancel. But even so .....
And the media know that it sells papers.

Anniebach Mon 22-Oct-18 13:49:32

The visit was planned before the wedding . I think everyone is understanding about the pregnancy

Billybob4491 Mon 22-Oct-18 14:20:04

Oldswoman - am sorry for your loss, husband and I married 55 years despite not holding hands, linking arms in public is not our thing.

Anniebach Mon 22-Oct-18 18:55:13

I liked the dress she wore today ?

Fennel Mon 22-Oct-18 18:58:49

"The visit was planned before the wedding . I think everyone is understanding about the pregnancy".
That's not the point Annie.
She shouldn't be traipsing round the antipodes in early pregnancy.

Blimey, and so it goes on. For what its worth , myself and Mr iam held hands and had a cuddle as we walked through out town centre today. We'd had a bit of a day one way and another, well a bit of a week or two really, so it was lovely to remember that we love each other and are easy with demonstrating affection towards each other. We also hug small children, stroke dogs and talk to anyone we meet who wants a chat.
Sparklefizz (and others) thanks for your kind and positive comments about this young couple. I'm sure the trip was planned before M became pregnant, though given her age it was pretty clear to everyone that the couple would be anxious to start their family asap. Good on her for not continuing to try to be perfect and keep up ridiculously long hours demanded on this tour. I bet its a real shock to her, that her pregnancy doesn't 'show' to the outside world but she will certainly feel it. I was 22 when I had my first pregnancy. Fit as a fiddle but I was absolutely floored by how tired I felt.
Good luck to them

Sparklefizz Mon 22-Oct-18 19:12:29

Well said Iam64

Anniebach Mon 22-Oct-18 19:28:45

Fennel, I didn’t arrange the tour, you said ‘maybe it was planned ages, I only replied with a fact ‘ it was arranged a year or more ago, The Invictus Games?

They could have delayed the pregnancy , would a month have made a difference in the grand scheme of life.

Iam, what stroking dogs and hugging small children has to do with this discussion is baffling.

I felt as if I had flu and so tired I could hardly function. It wasn't through lack of iron either.

Lovely to see them on Fraser Island today and, of course, we tend to forget that Harry has taken on The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy, which has been set up in order to help conserve forests throughout the Commonwealth.

Annie - my point is about tactile people. Some people are huggers and chatters, others aren't. My impression is that M and H are huggers and chatters. I'm not criticising those who aren't and I wouldn't hug or chat to someone whose body language said 'keep your distance'. I'm certain if I just happened to be in the vicinity of M and H - I'd hug given a chance.

Fennel Mon 22-Oct-18 19:57:20

re elderly couples holding hands -
One of the unexpected but nice things about living back in Geordieland is the number of very elderly couples walking along hand in hand. If I'm with husband I hold onto his arm.
I sometimes wonder if it's to give support when tripping on the uneven pavements smile.

Anniebach Mon 22-Oct-18 20:14:25

I spent most of the first three months with head over loo , thank heaven I didn’t have what Kate did, the thought of vomiting almost all day every day , must be awful

Anniebach Mon 22-Oct-18 20:23:28

Either Harry knows the sex of the baby or he needs to kerb his vocal diarrhoea

merlotgran Mon 22-Oct-18 20:32:28

I had the same as Kate and ended up in hospital on a drip. I was nearly five months pregnant before I stopped being sick. They told me it would ease with future pregnancies.

Wrong!!

Meghan looks well but she's bound to need some rest.

Anniebach Mon 22-Oct-18 20:37:21

merlot, it must have been awful for you

merlotgran Mon 22-Oct-18 20:49:42

The first pregnancy was the worst, annie because I didn't know what had hit me and didn't get much sympathy from people who thought I was exaggerating. We belonged to a car club and they couldn't understand why I didn't want to take part in a rally. shock grin

I think our Labrador showed the most consideration by not begging me for walks and crossing her legs until DH got home.

Thank goodness more is known about Hyperemesis Gravidarum now and I'm glad neither of my DDs suffered.

Anniebach Mon 22-Oct-18 21:16:32

merlot, thank heaven I didn’t suffer with that, ordinary morning sickness was bad enough , ate more ginger biscuits in those weeks than I usually did in a year . Poor you x

SueDonim Mon 22-Oct-18 23:02:03

Why shouldn't Meghan be 'traipsing round the Antipodes'? Women in Australia & NZ have babies, too - indeed the Prime Minister of NZ has recently had a baby while in office!

Most women have to go out to work when pregnant, I can't imagine that Meghan is a harder situation from any of those women. She's fortunate indeed that she feels well enough to carry out her duties, I wouldn't have been able to do so with my first and last pregnancies, so good luck to her!

Jalima1108 Tue 23-Oct-18 00:10:16

I think it's the flight in early pregnancy, perhaps not feeling great (not everyone does feel wonderful during pregnancy!) combined with jetlag.
Women in Australia & NZ have babies, too
Yes they do, but do they travel 10,000 miles in the first trimester?

SueDonim Tue 23-Oct-18 00:17:07

There's no bar on women flying in early pregnancy, that I'm aware of. Pregnant air crew do it all the time and lots of pg women fly off on holiday. Also, Meghan won't be slumming it in economy, she'll have had every comfort available to her.

gillybob Tue 23-Oct-18 07:53:36

...and meanwhile in the real world, pregnant women do 36-40 hours “real work” 5 days a week until a few weeks before they give birth. They go home and do housework, cook dinner, wash up, fall into bed before getting up to do it all again.

Iam64 Tue 23-Oct-18 08:07:03

It continues to amaze me that there is so much unpleasantness directed by female posters here towards a young woman who is expecting her first child. No one is suggesting that Meghan is working in the kind of work most of us did. Her job is 24 hours a day currently, she's on a timetable that most of us would find taxing, at the same time as having every inch of her makeup, clothes, hair and attitude under critical scrutiny.
I know I'm a cracked record but leave the woman alone. gillybob, there are many women who do what you describe as "real work". Not many of them would readily swop places with Meghan. Would you? I wouldn't.

gillybob Tue 23-Oct-18 08:34:06

Okay point taken Iam64 I will have to agree to disagree as I really can’t be bothered to argue.

Anniebach Tue 23-Oct-18 08:59:03

Iam, it’s your defence of her which is puzzling, she is not a ‘ china doll’ and her job is not 24 hours a day. The visit to Australia was arrange because of the Invictus Games, they both knew this , Harry does the opening bit. They could have delayed the pregnancy but chose not too. Everyone in the public eye gets praise and critcism, you have critcised queenie for not hugging her son in public, she was of her generation and no female member of the royal family has been critcised more that queenie, even criticised as a mother, a sister, a mother in law. She has never spoken out, never courted the press, no woman should have had to take the flack she took by the press and public when Diana died because she put her grandchildren before the country .

Megan, didn’t have to go with Harry, she chose to, she can rest when she wants. She is not a shy, vunerable girl, she is very worldly, a woman who can do that walk down the aisle on her wedding day is no shrinking violet.

I do find them both to be attention seekers, the one I am concerned for is Harry. History is being repeated .

MawBroon Tue 23-Oct-18 09:35:40

Yes they do, but do they travel 10,000 miles in the first trimester

Not sure of my distances and this is second trimester but DD3 aged 37 and 19 weeks into her first pregnancy has just returned from a 10 day business trip to China, and without the comfort of a “flatbed” seat.
She said she vomited in all three hotels and was very tired but the hardest was having to attend meetings etc where she knew she really couldn’t be sick. Food was also restricted - she ate a lot of rice!
