Anyone else feeling somewhat uncomfortable/irritated/slightly shocked at the ridiculous cost of recent outfits worn by Meghan and Kate? I can't get my head round it really, just seems wrong!

Does anyone really take much notice of Princess Anne's clothes? Yes, she is frugal (in the royal sense) but has never been one to care for fashion.

The fashion industry must be thrilled to have two women with a great sense of style to show off their designs and unlike catwalk models they don't have to pay them.

We don’t know if they wear something only once, they are not in the press every day

JessK Sat 06-Oct-18 09:50:49

They are good advertising for British fashion but I do wonder when they wear something only once. I do admire Princes Anne who recycles lots of her clothes but still manages to look good.

I'm not ashamed to say that some of my clothes are quite expensive. Or at least they were initially, for whoever put them on Ebay! grin

Sadly I think there are many, many more things which render me uncomfortable .
Where to start?
Brett Kavanaugh might be a good place.
But seriously the likes of Kate and Meghan are helping to promote the fashion industry, especially the former at present. Just think how many children’s clothing designers and retailers have seen their businesses go stratospheric because of the George/Charlotte effect?
Meghan’s Welsh jeans manufacturer?
The Royals almost certainly do not pay full price anyway, as they showcase designers, mostly British and that is good for business.

When ever Kate wears a new dress the designer is inundated with orders for similar so it must be very good for business,I don't see Primark sold out when I wear something new.She is good for British designers I think.

kittylester Sat 06-Oct-18 08:45:23

And, Kate particularly wears mostly British clothes which is part of her role.

Blue45. I think most would , we buy what we can afford

Blue45Sapphire Fri 05-Oct-18 22:54:15

Well, if I had their money, there is no way I'd be shopping at Primark. I'd be looking at stuff I liked from the top ranges, and why not? Same as if I went on holiday if I could afford business or first class there is no way I'd be travelling steerage...

Me thinks I have put my foot in it , sorry navy lovers - colour nor sailors ?

Overthehills Fri 05-Oct-18 22:09:07

Lemon grin

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 21:51:34

Does a navy girl mean all the nice girls love a sailor?

Overthehills Fri 05-Oct-18 21:48:24

What Jalima said!
Sorry Annie - I’m a navy “girl” and anything that goes with it! grin

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 21:31:08

I am only interested to see what they wear, couldn’t care less the cost.

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 21:27:56

I think it may be both Elegran grin crown

Elegran Fri 05-Oct-18 21:09:17

I think some of you need to decide which it is you want to object to - is it that they have the money or that they spend what they have on nice clothes (exactly as anyone else who can afford it does) ?

Chewbacca Fri 05-Oct-18 20:50:27

People in the public eye, and what clothes they choose to wear, have been the source of much discussion for decades. I can distinctly remember Norma Major being pilloried and laughed at, for wearing a navy blue suit she'd made herself, for John Major's first speech. Seems they can't win either way.

M0nica Fri 05-Oct-18 20:25:59

Most of the garments the Duchess of Cambridge was wearing were clothes she had worn before and were obviously staples in her wardrobe, not bought new for the event. I seem to remember that one garment came form Zara. She is well off, so she buys expensive brands, why not?

I went clothes shopping today and just walked past New Look and Primark, preferring the more expensive Monsoon and M&S. Why shouldn't I?

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 19:48:01

Well, ok, i am wearing navy trousers ?

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:25:24

oh dear, I am a bit of a navy person
but I do have a brighter top on today smile

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 18:50:12

i Couldn’t care less what people pay for their clothes, wish Megan would discover there are more colours than black and navy

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 17:59:35

Ditto Jalima

Chewbacca Fri 05-Oct-18 17:56:37

Ditto Jalima! grin

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 17:45:03

I am intensely relaxed about what other people wear

Greenfinch Fri 05-Oct-18 16:59:29

I am with you madgran. My gut feeling is that it is obscene and unnecessary but then I have no time at all for royalty. The inequality of wealth in this country disturbs me a lot.
