We have mains gas in our (Home Counties) village . Another village, under 3 miles away does not.

No heating on yet but the weather is getting colder. Leaves falling off the tree's for Autumn. Putting a jumper on and blanket over my thin quilt.

Just for the bathroom radiator as the towels aren’t drying. I try to wait until November and so fingers crossed it doesn’t get too cold before then!

No. Wear woolly cardigan during the day and in the evening change into a pair of pj's, bed socks and warm dressing gown.
Take hot water bottle to bed.

We have a really nice cast iron Victorian fireplace, with coal effect gas fire that is not part of the CH system so that goes on sometimes when the evening is chilly and we are sitting down; otherwise tearing about keeps you quite warm enough! The heating did go on one evening last week for an hour or so when the wind was howling around and the house seemed damp and chilly. I have an elderly neighbour who has had her heating on at full blast for weeks, and even in the heatwave she had radiators practically at boiling point to dry her washing. Her living room was like Singapore.

Not everybody is on mains gas in the UK and the bottled sort doesn’t come cheap.

If I detect a chill in the air or its been a day of non stop rain I turn on my heating to switch off when it reaches the temp I have set it to and know I am comfortable with.
Small amounts can be money saving than saying to yourself 'oh dear its only September shouldn't be turning on the heating yet' then going full blast later on.
Also switching on my electric blanket when needs must.

Wood burner lit in the evening over the last few days and the slow cooker came out of the cupboard this morning - first casserole of the season being prepared for tomorrow.

The British dilemma, every year we have this obsession of telling others when the right time is to put on the heating. Seems everyone wants to be the last one to do it. When I'm cold, even if its June, I put the heating on for a while. There are no winners in this very British contest, just feeling cold and miserable. My motto, If you're chilly - click it on!

No. Not been on at all since mid March. I don't like overheated rooms.

Started the week before last putting the heating on for an hour some mornings, evenings we have been using the wood burner for a while now.

Yes, coal fire in the evening and a couple of hours of heating on if it gets chilly. Must be mild this year though, I usually start in September!

Oh definitely on whenever we need it. I don't see the point of holding out if I am cold. It's set twice a day at the moment, but doesn't always come on if the temperature hasn't dropped. I over-rode it yesterday during the day as it was cold and rainy.

I had to wait until there was calm water so that I could get up on top of my boat to sweep the flue. All clean now so I might buy some wood today and have a cosy evening watching Strictly.

With our thermostat set at 19C in the mornings (20C in the afternoons) we rarely see the heating turn on at this time of year.

Here in Australia very few older houses have it

I have lived in my little flat, 1st floor, retirement living, for 4 years and have never switched the heating on in all that time. we have very old obsolete night storage heaters which are not cost effective and also not very effective at heating the flat either. I did purchase a small convector heater but that has only been used one evening 2 years ago. I guess I am lucky, I have a flat below me, one above and one either side so that helps keep the heat in I guess.
My daughters house which is a corner house if freezing, like an ice box.

I m a hot water bottle hugger too and when I sit down to watch the tv in the evenings (Autumn and spring) that’s me hottie bottle on my knee I used to find the office unbearable hot when I was at work and my next door neighbour has the heating on full blast and all the windows open how daft is that
My main room gets so cosy too and you only see my nose under my duvets in the bedroom so no big problem really

Central heating on for an hour or two in the morning, a few hours at night but no heat in the bedroom.
Might put gas fire on in living room if having a read in the afternoon.
I never skimp on heat, I like my comfort too much!

Mornings and evenings here in the NE of Scotland. No heating on in the bedroom but on in the en suite.

I have my thermostat set low, usually 15 and turn it up or down as necessary. My draughty old house is cold but I can’t afford to be warm. It’s been off since April and I don’t need it on yet.

BlueBelle I don't have central heating either but have a multi fuel stove in one of the 2 reception rooms I use in the winter. I haven't lit it yet it's been so mild and my place is well insulated. A hot shower also warms me up when I get up.

I also think lots of people have heating up far too high and that it doesn't do you a lot of good especially if on in the bedrooms.

At times I haven't got the stove going I put on an oil free radiator, close the door and the room heats up quickly and is a pleasant heat. When stove is burning I can open the door of the room and the heat will lift the temperature of the rest of the bungalow. No dampness or mould here either. A large pallet of wood lasts all winter and electricity bill is low.

I do admit to hugging a hot water bottle for an hour or two on chilly evenings in Autumn/Spring and wearing 2 layers when the weather is pretty cold. It's my choice not to have gas central heating installed but all visitors always remark how cosy the rooms I live in are in the winter [although not the bedrooms!]
