I’ve put mine on this morning. Very chilly here. It’s officially winter.☹️

We have been having the heating on in the bedrooms zone for a couple of hours in the morning as our bedroom is st the north end of the bungalow and the coldest part. DH needs the warmth but it has been ok in the evenings so far. I have lit a tiny fire in the woodburner and everywhere is quite comfortable and it is very economical. The sunshine is great for heating the house as we have huge windows. I am putting thermal linings in as many windows as I can so that when I draw the curtains at dusk that will hopefully help to keep the heat in and the costs down. I have loved the summer warmth but am enjoying the cosying up of autumn. Extra woollies is the answer! grin

We've had our radiators on just for a couple of hours in the evening this last week. Until today it's been very mild in the daytime but cold later in the day in Irchester, Northamptonshire.

We turn our radiators up whenever it is cold, irrespective of the time of year, as both of us have back problems that get worse if we are cold.

No, living so far south near the Downs, it has been fairly mild up to now!

Not yet, but having spent an hour actually shivering today, whilst watching my granddaughter at her riding lesson, I don't think it will be far off.

It's cold up north! Yes had it on this morning just to take the chill off.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 06-Oct-18 13:03:50

I've been putting it on manually if I feel the need. Last night I had to switch it off as I got too warm but today I'm a little chilly so it'll go on again.
I find it difficult to get the balance right. My small house is warm and dry and retains the heat in summer.

36C and 73% humidity here so, no, no additional heating!

Pinkshoes26 Sat 06-Oct-18 12:37:04

Autumn 22nd September - 21st December . Keep moving and stay warm

MawBroon Sat 06-Oct-18 12:33:06

No, to GabriellaG who seems to think only uncivilised parts of the U.K. do not have mains gas.
Sorry that was not clear.

Pinkshoes26 Sat 06-Oct-18 12:29:20

Mar Broon - are you talking to me? Pinkshoes? no I am not kidding = no heating on yet.

rafichagran Sat 06-Oct-18 12:14:26

Just put it on when required. I have not used it that much. I like to be comfortable and when I feel cold it goes on.

humptydumpty Sat 06-Oct-18 12:09:56

Max temp here has gone from 22 yesterday to 8 today!!!

travelsafar Sat 06-Oct-18 12:06:46

Not at the moment but will do so in a couple of hours no doubtwhen i curl up on the sofa for a siesta with a film, a pot of tea and my knitting or to read my library book.Love these wintery afternoons when you just want to be home indoors all warm and cosy.smile

inishowen Sat 06-Oct-18 11:57:13

Yes ours is on. It's a beautiful crisp autumn day here in Ireland, but it's very chilly indoors.

Helennonotion Sat 06-Oct-18 11:46:09

I could go the entire winter without the heating. (as we did for the first 25 year of our marriage. ) Just a fire on in the living room is adequate for me. I too hate a warm bedroom and try to leave the window open all the year round. However my husband is an avid runner and with a very low resting heart rate is always bloody cold! I sit here in a t shirt and shorts in the winter and hes wrapped up in joggers, a sweatshirt and a fleece dressing gown! But in answer to the OP question. No, not yet! But I suspect it won't be long! 19 - 20 degrees MAX!

Thanks sharon59 'the British dilemma' made me laugh. We have our heating set at 18. If it comes on and we are not cold, we turn it off. If we're cold and it doesn't come on, we turn it on.
Yes, my first reaction is to start wearing thicker knitwear or more layers, but I refuse to be cold.
We had visitors from Cornwall this week, wrapped in thick layers where I'm wearing a T-shirt and a thin cardi. They said they were cold - so we turned the heating up for them.

Not yet although the timer is set but the temperature has not fallen to the point where it should start. The boiler has been serviced so it is ready to go and we did a manual overide on one morning when it did feel nippy but it soon cut out again. This year is unusual.

M0nica Sat 06-Oct-18 11:34:26

Our heating system is thermostatically controlled and has being coming on intermittently for the last 10 days. It hasn't come on at all for most of this week, but did this morning.

We only ever have it on for a couple of hours morning and evening, we find that is quite sufficient. If the temperature falls to 5 degrees or lower, we will light the wood burner during the day and the air circulates around the downstairs.

I actually do not like a high ambient temperature. I prefer to wear more clothes and be in a cooler house.

grin

holdingontometeeth Sat 06-Oct-18 11:29:41

Unfortunately it is in regular use now.
OH refuses to wear a coat and scarf, coat and gloves indoors.

MissAdventure Sat 06-Oct-18 11:26:38

I prefer to be cool, so haven't used my heating yet.
Its ideal for me when there is a chill in the air. I love it!

Willow10 Sat 06-Oct-18 11:21:47

I switch mine on only when I need it, even in the coldest winter. It is in the kitchen under my bedroom and would keep me awake switching on and off otherwise. It's been on a couple of times in the evening lately, but only for an hour or so. Here's hoping for a short, mild winter!
