Seems daft now

In my thirties I was a busy tired mum of three boys.
The laundry was never ending.

My husband would throw his shirts in the washing basket, sleeves rolled up.

So I started washing and ironing them with the sleeves still rolled up, just as he left them.

It used to infuriate me that he'd been asked to unroll them before putting in the basket.

Now it seems very daft.

Can you confess to anything similar?

My ex used to spend a vast amount of his wages on his friends down the pub each week so never had any money to pay into the household except for the one bill he had his name on. One day I got fed up with this and changed all the household bills into his name which made him furious. After a huge row, I woke up to find all the electricity off and upon investigation I found the main fuse had been removed to "save" electricity. I put it back in and as I left for work I switched on every light and electrical appliance I could find and made sure I wasn't the first home. He was apoplectic.
Needless to say, we got divorced shortly after.

I use to pick up ally sons stuff that was lying around, open his bedroom door and just throw it in and then close the door. Did the trick. My husband, well he has a habit of having little and sometimes big piles of stuff to sort out and these piles would be on the floor in the bedroom. So now I have changed sides in bed so his stuff is out of sight when you come into the bedroom and I only vacuum up to the his rubbish as I call it. He was like it when we married so why try to change him. Hope this makes sense.

My DH wears long sleeved t shirts and always takes them off so that one sleeve is inside out. I have asked him repeatedly to not do this, pointing out that I'm going to be dead soon so my time is too precious to spend sorting out his shirts, all to no effect. Now I wash them and return them to his wardrobe. He doesn't seem to notice. Also socks taken off so they are rolled up in a ball are washed and returned to his sock drawer, but he's never commented on this.

When my boy/girl twins were 18 I got so fed up with their ever increasing overflowing wash baskets (they were supposed to deal with their owning laundry) that I bundled all the washing into black bin liners - there were 5 in total - and took them to the launderette for service washing! When I got home I told them if they wanted their clothes back they had to go to the launderette and pay to get them back!!! It cost them just over £50 between them ???

My husband wears double socks and if they end up in the wash still double they get washed and dried that way. I also get very annoyed about shirt sleeves - as well as shirts being half inside out.............or is it outside in.............?! There's another discussion!

DH used to take his tie off as soon as he got in from work every day, roll it up and put it on a shelf in the sitting room. By the end of the week there be 5 ties all nearly rolled and lined up! Can't remember now who used to put them away. Always left his outdoor shoes by the back door, ready to slip on if he needed something from the garage, and ready for someone to trip over! Wish he was still here to do it...

Mapleleaf grin well said
Bathsheba, I gave DH one of those leather cases for his 21st birthday. he still has it, but it is in his bedside cupboard, unused. Ahh, memories. By the way, he will be 80 next year shock

lemongrove Sat 29-Sept-18 08:25:54

It wasn’t me, honest! grin

lemongrove Sat 29-Sept-18 08:25:21

I remember a friend who used to clean the bathroom sink and bath with her DH’s face flannel when angry with him.grin

lemongrove Sat 29-Sept-18 08:23:44

GrandmaKT I insist on always doing the packing for holidays as the only time that DH packed ( for a holiday in Spain) when I was physically unable to do it one year, he forgot to pack any pants or bra’s ( despite my giving him a list) and both pairs of my sandals.
We had to find shops the minute we got there! angry

lemongrove Sat 29-Sept-18 08:19:32

Fishpie...oooh, you are awful...but I like you! grin

DH will make a drink and is able to open a number of kitchen cupboards in the process, each one is then left open. The usual request of “that could be potentially dangerous, dear” got nowhere. I have perfected the art of flouncing in and flipping them shut in quick succession,as loudly as possible. Very satisfying.

Mapleleaf Sat 29-Sept-18 07:45:59

Isn't it funny how silly things can irritate us! My DH is really good, but one thing that irritates me (and I know it's silly, and in the great scheme of things doesn't really matter), but we have tie backs on the bedroom curtains which are never used by DH - he just drags the curtains open, each side uneven. As I say, it's silly, I know, but I wish he'd use the tie backs!!!??
And before a particular poster comes on to say, "Is that all I've got to worry about?" ( Or words to that effect), I'll remind them, this is a lighthearted thread!!

It's not just my husband with the shirt buttons then?! I did make a point once to stop unbuttoning them and just wash and iron them done up - it worked - for a while but now I just get on with it. He also leaves the empty toilet roll tube on the window sill but puts another on the holder and leaves the air freshener on there as well instead of on the shelf below it! He does throw his washing in his laundry basket though and make his own bed smile

pensionpat Sat 29-Sept-18 06:08:01

Marmight. I did that too with inside out socks. It didn’t bother him, he wore them inside out. So every alternate wash they were the right way round.

GrandmaKT Fri 28-Sept-18 20:08:45

I totally refuse to have anything to do with my DH's packing when we go away! I insist that we have separate cases and that he is responsible for his own packing. That way I don't get blamed if anything is missing. However, I still get "I forgot to pack my camera/walking boots/toothbrush because you were rushing me!" Can't win grin

Bathsheba Fri 28-Sept-18 20:04:08

Haha Lynne59, that is exactly the sort of thing I've been known to do! My DH had his shaving gear in one of those leather zipped cases with everything in little stainless steel canisters inside, very popular as Christmas gifts back in the 60's and 70's ?.
Anyway, he always unzipped the case, took everything out, and then just left it all over the washbasin and windowsill. I moaned at him every time, but like a complete mug, I used to put it all away for him. In the end I tried something different - I picked up all the bits: canisters, lids, shaving soap, brush, razor and case, and put them under the covers on his side of the bed ???
It didn't stop him though, complete waste of time ?

Marmight Fri 28-Sept-18 19:40:58

Inside out socks were the bane of my life . I always paired them up as they were delivered to the washing machine - inside out grin.

FlexibleFriend Fri 28-Sept-18 18:36:38

My ex always dropped his boxers on the floor no matter how many times I asked him to put them in the linen basket so I put them under his pillow every time I was left to pick them up. Tbf he did see the funny side when he realised what I was doing.

MiniMoon Fri 28-Sept-18 18:30:37

One thing DH does that really annoys me, he empties the kitchen bin, takes the bag out to the wheelie bin but does not put a new one in. It's always left to me. Grr!!!

Lynne59 Fri 28-Sept-18 18:18:42

My husband is great, but very untidy. After 38 years of marriage, he hasn't changed a lot, and I'm used to tidying his things away - but one thing I won't do is tidy away his crisps packets/sweet wrappers/banana skins/apple cores he leaves daily, on his little table next to his settee! I am so childish that I pick them up (he leaves things and goes off to bed), and stuff the item into the bottom of his work boots! I laugh to myself when I hear him moaning the next morning when he's going off to work. It hasn't stopped him though!

Nonnie Fri 28-Sept-18 16:40:41

gmelon he does change the roll but leaves the inner cardboard bit anywhere near the loo. I am determined that he will get tidier one way or another except his study which I don't go near so he can do what he likes in there!

sodapop Fri 28-Sept-18 16:38:08

However much we love our partners there is always that one thing which niggles. It's shirt buttons with me as well, why does he not undo them before removing his shirt !!
My children learned the hard way that anything left on the bedroom floor would go in a black bag in the bin. I only had to do it twice.

Liz46 Fri 28-Sept-18 16:35:26

gmelon, he's not too bad with the kitchen bin, apart from missing it frequently. He's awful at sorting out the recycling though.

ninathenana Fri 28-Sept-18 14:44:53

I'm the one that leaves things on the back of a dining chair, often for a day or two. DH goes up stairs as soon as he comes in, changes into slippers and puts his coat away shock
I can't think of anything be dosen't do that niggles me and that I have chosen to make a stand over. Having said that, he is not perfect, he just comes close ?
