I have just been well and truly told off!

Well our council needs to screw as much as they can from the motorist. £1.40 per hour to park in the town with plenty of those eagle eyed “wanna be coppers” walking around ready to pounce . The other car parks including our hospital use Evil Eye ....what a money spinner . Must pay for quite a few council bashes .

Was at hospital last week when a motorist who was leaving car parked offered his ticket with 4 hours still left on it. For my anticipated 2hour appointment I would have paid £3. On going to car park when leaving a young couple were going tobticket machine when I offered the ticket to them. They were so grateful saying they could just about afford to pay for parking for an hour goubg to visit girl's dad who was seriously ill. Someone did me a favour and I passed it on. If parking t a hospital wasn't so expensive people wouldn't hand tickets over. I do know tickets are not transferable.

We have our number plate /picture taken when we enter the hospital . It often takes ages to find a space during busy times (especially visiting ). If you are lucky enough to find a space you need to calculate what time you entered the car park ( not when you found a space) and pay how much you think you might need . Therefore most people way over calculate for fear of being “got” . The evil eye then photographs you leaving the car park and checks that you have paid enough between the two points . This results in £1000’s worth of fines every year . One particularly naughty thing is that if you enter and fail to find a space then drive out you will be fined ! Great innit ?

QQ what a good idea! I will tell our council immediately. Lidl has recent introduced the number plate recognition thing which has been a blow for people visiting the health centre next door.
It got so bad with £90 fines being dished out to distressed 90yr old's that I believe Lidl has had to allow a couple of spaces though they are within their rights as they own their carpark.
Another parking area has been reduced to 30 mins much to the delight of local shop keepers and what's more it is enforced.
The cars which used to block the spaces all the time have had to go elsewhere.
Nannyme I would have done as you did and I hate rules which stop people being generous.

What a difference to our experience in a Spanish town . We found a place in a car park, went to pay when a lovely gent tried to give us his ticket because it had 2 hrs left on it. It had his registration on the ticket so he took us to the machine to change his registration to ours. He couldn't do it so he called the attendant who did it for him!
Our Spanish is limited but we were able to thank him profusely for 2 hrs free parking. We will certainly return!

We have been given tickets by other people and likewise given them to others. Motorists are well and truly ripped off when it comes to parking costs. It feels like a nice little gesture to offer a ticket to someone else or be offered one. Unfortunately a lot of councils have now cottoned on to this and installed number plate recognition of the sort were you have to key in your own number plate when getting your ticket. Plain greed on their part. Hope you enjoyed your cream cake though.

Our parking tickets are the stick on ones so if I'm near the pay station and have some time unused on my ticket I stick it on there

You are quite right that the man shouldn't have spoken to you so rudely. He could have just said "no thank you".

I have passed on tickets occasionally in the past and accepted them but I stopped a few years ago because someone I know got caught passing on her ticket and received a hefty fine. It is actually illegal.

When I refuse tickets, I am always polite and express appreciation. The man should have done the same when you approached him.

I’m sure that made his day, horrible pompous know it all. You must be very patient - I’d have walked away once he started. When I pay my hard earned money to the council for parking I will give it to whomsoever I please! They’ve been paid for the time and space for al car to park so they are ripping people off by not allowing that time and space to be used for the full time allocated.

How unlucky you were to meet such a righteous, pompous, ungrateful and nit picky person so early in the day. Don't let it put you off being generous to others - I have often given a ticket with time left to someone else. Help! that's my ticket to heaven torn up. Enjoy your cake, nice helpful person.

I used to do this until they bought in machines where you have to type in your registration number. Most people are delighted and grateful. Some people just enjoy telling others off, don't they. Miserable old grumps,

Karma is supposed to works both ways.....that means that all his 'righteous' parking meters will run miserably past due and the tickets will cost him both fortune and dismay!

I wonder if there have been any prosecutions for doing a good deed like this. I would be hopping mad if I ended up paying a fine, when where I live there are cars parked illegally and on the pavements every day - and the owners get away with it!

Why couldn't you leave the man alone? It's troublemakers like you who bring such misery to the world.

Whilst it might contravene the rules of the car park, it is not illegal. Everyone did it in our local car parks even to the extent of leaving unexpired tickets by the ticket machine.

The council got around this by installing new machines which printed the Registration number so we can't do it anymore. But at least we can get an hour's free parking as opposed to 30 minutes!

Our shopping centre car park charges a minimum of £2 for three hours. I only ever use an hour at the most so always pass on my ticket if I see someone approaching the machine. I don't care if it's illegal, it's robbery on the part of the car park company. They should either give you the option to choose a time and give change, or install pay on exit machines.
My other gripe is that all the machines over six floors are positioned at knee height for wheelchair shoppers who also have a whole floor devoted to disabled shoppers. Shouldn't that be enough? It's usually mostly empty on that floor too.

Don’t let the miserable old swine put you off ‘ticket offering’ nannyme , I always do it, and so do most people where I live- the parking companies aren’t being cheated of any money , they just aren’t getting twice the money, and that’s what ri,es thegreedy buggers!

Wigan Council have decided to allow free parking in the town centre every weekend until Christmas. After only a couple of weeks there are a lot more people visiting the town to do their shopping. This can only be good for everyone concerned, as many shoppers would normally rather drive to the Trafford centre in Manchester and park free of charge.
When will Councils realize that excessive parking charges result in people going elsewhere and high street shops closing down?
As for hospital parking, I was told by a member of staff to pay the minimum amount. If challenged I should just say that my appointment took much longer than expected. Of course, that would only work in a pay in advance car park, and if we were prepared to tell a few porkies!

Some people just get up in the mornings, and decide to be as unpleasant as possible. Put him down as being one of these.
