I don't have any experience of living alone, but this post reminds me of my youngest daughter when she split up from her husband (no children). She was left with the house, and lived alone for about 3 years. I remember her saying how much she missed human physical contact, and that the only time she was ever even touched was when she came home to us. I had never even considered this before - and was so sad about it. Eventually, she got a 'rescue' cat from the RSPCA, and said it was so nice to know that 'somebody' else was breathing in the house. This helped her enormously - having a living creature to feed and look after, and make a fuss of.
I suppose it's the same for many people who live alone. Work colleagues and strangers don't touch you, and even if you have friends who do, you don't see them all of the time.
If I were you, Oldwoman, I would take the bull by the horns, and start 'touching' your friends (without mentioning your feelings). Just a pat on the hand or arm - something small and almost unnoticeable, at first. You may be surprised to find that they will respond in kind. From there, you may be able to build up to a full-blown hug! After all, they too, might feel just the same as you and welcome your physical contact (with open arms!).
This could be a long process, but do try to make other friends too (hard, I know). Be more touchy and huggy yourself, and I'm sure you will get a loving response.
Good luck!
(This comes with a huge, snuggly hug!)
