Having the house cleansed spiritually

What do you do with the salt?
I have fresh sage in the garden, should it be dried and also what do I do with that?.

paddyann It’s still done. I had it done in the last house and this one. It was the previous house I also had cleansed.

Yes we have.... and it worked. Inherited a house where the single lady had died of excrutiating stomach cancer as she had a philosophy of never eating anything cooked. There were definitely strange things going on which culminated in our even having an accident in the car. We had every room in the house "cleansed" whereafter all was calm.

Suspect my reaction would to be to cheerfully redecorate or move on.

I think it sounds like a fresh start is what your friend is looking for. Would he consider going from room to room and and changing/refreshing it in some way. Cleaning, decorating or something new might make it feel like his own positive space. It worked for me at the end of a negative relationship.

Not a believer personally, but if you do, go for it. One house in the village was always known as the 'divorce' house, because every couple that moved in subsequently got divorced. DD had already moved in by that time, but her marriage only last another couple of years. Coincidence?

It can definitely help if only in the mind. I do believe in some of this stuff as i’ve had a couple of experiences that couldn’t be explained. It certainly won’t do any harm but, as others have said, no need to pay someone to do it.

I’ve a very open mind on this issue. We go to a Kinseologist for alternative treatments and she started talking about “ attachments” in this big old house we moved to. My grandson had seen things in the house and we had sensed a “presence” so she did a cleansing and all has been fine ever since.....

Certainly u dertake this yourself. You need Sage smudge sticks that smoke slowly, a bit like joss sticks and you smudge around all doors and windows, I do corners as well. Salt needs to be rock or sea salt, diluted with as much water as you desire, then also wiped around doors and windows with a natural brush that has not been used before. The Sage sticks can be left to burn on a shell or I have used them to light wood burner. I also painted every room white and then gradually introduced colour when it felt right, but nothing harsh, hanging crystals also keeps harmony within your home. Good luck.

Certainly some houses do seem to have a warm and happy atmosphere. Dds' both did - you instantly felt that this had been a happy home. Can't say the same for all the houses I've ever looked at my any means.

In some cultures belief in bad vibes is perfectly normal. A Swedish friend who used to live in Thailand had a similar expat friend who moved her family and Thai maid into a 'new' house. Maid was instantly wary, said, 'Madam, this very bad house, bad spirits here.' Of course 'Madam' pooh poohed it as superstitious nonsense, but a couple years later, after everything from illness to you-name-it had gone wrong for the family, they moved out. And lo and behold, from then on things rapidly improved.
Who knows? There are more things in heaven and earth, and all that...

Salt and sage are thought by many to be purifiers. As hillwalkersuggests, a sage 'smudge', which can be bought on ebay, can help defuse negativity, as also a small bowl of dried sage in each corner of a room, or a sage incense stick left to burn in the room. Salt can be used instead of, or in harness with sage.

I can almost feel the howls of derision here, so am loathe to carry on least I got tied down with stones and thrown in a river or burnt at a stake! To me, many an 'old wive's tale' has sprinklings of sense and some of them should be taken literally with a 'pinch of salt' (like house cleansing)

The negative vibes in our house walked out with my ex thankfully.

We have a ‘divorce house’ opposite us. Nobody stays long. They do major works on the house, usually undone by the next couple/family. There is a lovely family in there now and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I have often wondered whether my old family home - that was so incredibly full of life and family, with all it's (many) ups and downs - including my grandmother and father dying there, has any 'vibes' going on. There was so much emotion given out in that house, I feel it has to have marked it some how? Most of it good, all of it very strong and loud! We were a big noisy family. Can't quite bring myself to knock on the door and ask if it is haunted!

I read this as cleaned - got my hopes up for a cleaning spirit!

I believe in houses having positive vibes, the one you walk into on a viewing & instantly feel at home. So it follows that house can also have bad vibes, yes spiritual cleansing is possibly a bit like a placebo but if you believe in it why not.

I love redecorating to create your own vibe so says the lady who's lived in this house 3 years & hasn't touched a pot of paint . Go for it, no harm will come of it.

White sage should do it.

I would day definitely a good idea. I am sure most have gone to houses that have a happy feel about them and a not nice feel about them. I do hope this gives your friend a new start.

Only MHO but I tbink it's mumbo jumbo...just like religion. If it makes you feel better then just go ahead and get it 'cleansed'. It's all in the mind. You can plant many seeds and some people's minds are more fertile than others.
