Have any of you an experience of having the house cleansed of negative vibes?

I am not talking about an exorcism, just a house where there is a lot of negative energy/feelings.

This is for a relative of mine who wants a fresh start.

Thank you Old Meg and Soda pop for your kind words. I felt the presence of my son several times in the old house and wanted to new one blessed to feel he would know and come with us.

When I was growing up it didn’t work. There were so many unhappy times I was glad to go off to boarding school.

Sometimes when I've done a really thorough clean I finish off by using my singing bowl or ringing a bell in the corners of the rooms. The air always feels crisper afterwards.

Yes absolutely. Houses, properties etc, hold vibes. Some good, some bad some nothing at all. I'm not particularly spiritual or religious but I have had countless times I have felt 'a presence?' in a home, a building, a street, a field. I'm also a very grounded person. However having said that I would also say it's natural when a relationship comes to an end and one partner leaves the home it would be natural to feel the loss and all that was which would bring about a feeling of negativity. This means having to face moving on which is not an easy thing to do. It takes time. Simple as it sounds redecorating or refurbishing the home if possiblecan work wonders.

What an interesting ritual! smile
I'm not sure there is anything negative in my home, but a bit of better luck wouldn't go amiss sometimes.

Not saying that our house has negative vibes, but our religion (Judaism) seems to have a blessing for everything.
In our home, we fix a small scroll with a blessing for protection in a container to the doorpost of every room. Except the bathroom!
Called mezuzot.
If bad things happen it's evidently often found that there's an error in the script on the scroll.

Find a Geopathic Stress practitioner. This uses mapping the house to identify negative hotspots, then uses crystals, incense and candles to remove them. I learned to do this with a lovely lady who developed a kit with full instructions. Not a cheap option, but it works.

You use a bunch of dried sage, waft the smoke into every corner, called smudging.

As I said in a different thread, I like to keep an open mind about all this stuff.

The placebo effect works on those who believe in the power of a particular remedy or procedure. There is also a very fine line between superstition, religion and placebo.....they all rely on faith.

Feng Shui albeit unscientific, is consistent with common sense practices to eliminate stress and to create a pleasing environment (harness healing power of water (pools/fountains), keeping pathways free and open, avoiding clutter and the well placed use of certain colors, among others.

Whether it's real or 'magic'....as long as it works that's all that matters.

It depends a little, Paddyann, which corner of the Catholic world you are in, but certainly having the house blessed is still quite the norm. We had our motor-boat blessed when we were using it as our home.

My local vicar does house blessings.

MysticalUnicorn Tue 25-Sept-18 14:52:29

Yes I have and it definitely helped. Tried the exorcism route with the vicar, who thought I was nuts, and it didn't help. (I really don't mean to offend anyone on here who is a staunch believer, this is just my person experience.) Tried the spiritual route and found it to be great. Yes, burning sage in all corners of all rooms while saying a positive mantra is helpful as well and it does mean you can do it yourself. Having some saltwater and also bergamot oil on external doorframes stops negative energies coming into the house. I also have crystals around my house, lots of quartz and rose quartz. Hope this helps.

Its a fensui thing. Here is an Australian site. There are UK Ones
www.fengshui-consultations.com.au/advice/house_cleansing.php

Ceremonies can help people feel better and release themselves from undesired emotions. Here is what the site says:

STEPS TO CLEANSING AWAY THE OLD, STALE AND NEGATIVE ENERGY
You can request it done professionally by me the first time, when I will show you how to do complete house or business cleansing using Feng Shui. You can do this yourself, which I’m going to fully explain here.

This is the simple technique of space and energy clearing. You will need a smudge stick, sandalwood incense, an affirmation, and a packet of rock salt.
The affirmation may go something like: “I enlighten this house with positive enforcement of positive thought of love and prosperity, as I banish all negative energy from this home.”
Friday is the best day of the week to cleanse.

A CLEANSING ROUTINE FOR YOU TO FOLLOW
Begin by removing items left behind by the previous tenants that you do not wish to keep, put them out for garbage collection or give to a charity.
Dust and vacuum to give a nice clean feeling.
Open all the windows and doors.
Put on your favourite music and let the cleansing begin.
You’ll need to focus your mind on what your aim is and confirm your intentions
You need to recite a affirmation in each room as you are smudging.
You will need to smudge yourself first so you don’t leave or absorb negative energies when you leave.
Start burning the sandalwood as the smoke begins to rise from the incense, starting at the top of your head, letting the smoke swirl around you. Move the incense around your body letting yourself be surrounded in the smoke. When you get down to the bottom of your legs, lift each foot and allow the smoke to swirl under the sole of each foot. Let the smoke absorb around every part of your body.
Once you have smudged yourself, move to the front of the house and lets begin.
Allow the smoke to rise and fill every corner, on every wall, over every doorway and window and in every room of the house. As you are doing this, recite your affirmation.
Be sure and move the sage over, around and under furniture, as these things can hold energy as well.
You should work your way clockwise motion through each room until you end up back at the front door.
smudging your entire body one more time.
The final step is to place a pinch of rock salt each corner of each room and this will absorb any negative energy and you need to replace the salt once a month.
Some tips for keeping the home Free of Stagnant/Negative energies.
Place crystals throughout the house.
Place a rock salt in every corner of every room.
Mist the house or workplace with Holy Water.
Burn candles.
Burn incense and smudge with sage.
Burn essential oils or cones of incense in a simmering pot.
Add fresh flowers in vases throughout your house.
Say affirmations or prayers.
Move furniture around every few months.
De-clutter the house or workplace once every year.

Jennifer many people who will do it will also refuse any payment.

JenniferEccles Tue 25-Sept-18 13:34:41

I'm sensing an opportunity to set up my own 'house cleansing' business after reading how so many on here appear to think there's a need for it!

Now, how much shall I charge? I wish I'd thought of this years ago!

Sheilasue Tue 25-Sept-18 13:33:49

No, not really. Any way my late sons presence is felt in my flat, wouldn’t want to lose that.

Anniebach Tue 25-Sept-18 13:18:50

I have said for quite sometime to my younger daughter, ‘ nothing has gone right since I moved to this bungalow ‘

Luckygirl Tue 25-Sept-18 13:07:22

There is truth in feeling - if you feel it works then it will.

trisher Tue 25-Sept-18 12:31:48

I had to Google this and guess what? you can DIY! www.energymuse.com/blog/how-to-remove-negative-energy-from-your-home/
They do try to sell you stuff to do it with of course

GabriellaG Tue 25-Sept-18 12:28:04

Typo. think. blush

GabriellaG Tue 25-Sept-18 12:27:19

Only MHO but I tbink it's mumbo jumbo...just like religion. If it makes you feel better then just go ahead and get it 'cleansed'. It's all in the mind. You can plant many seeds and some people's minds are more fertile than others.

Theoddbird Tue 25-Sept-18 11:56:19

I would day definitely a good idea. I am sure most have gone to houses that have a happy feel about them and a not nice feel about them. I do hope this gives your friend a new start.

tigger Tue 25-Sept-18 11:56:00

White sage should do it.

Legs55 Tue 25-Sept-18 11:52:56

I believe in houses having positive vibes, the one you walk into on a viewing & instantly feel at home. So it follows that house can also have bad vibes, yes spiritual cleansing is possibly a bit like a placebo but if you believe in it why not.

I love redecorating to create your own vibe so says the lady who's lived in this house 3 years & hasn't touched a pot of paintblush . Go for it, no harm will come of it.

mumof2boys Tue 25-Sept-18 11:48:10

I read this as cleaned - got my hopes up for a cleaning spirit!
