Foodies!

With all the discussion of cheese scones in Soop's kitchen I've been told by my other half I need to make some to remind him that I can! We have no flour or marg so looks like I have to go to the supermarket. I haven't retired yet and haven't baked for years - I'm no good at cooking either despite going to catering college. I blame the loss of my smell (and taste) for the disinterest but I will make an effort when time is available!

deec we have loads of apples also. I love stewed Apple with a bit of artificial sweetener and cream. My mother used to make apple snow. I will try to find a recipe for that as it was delicious.

BBbevan. Sounds delicious! I do as much Low Carb High Fat cooking as I can as it suits our tastes. Tonight we had baked chicken thighs with seven vegetables in a traybake. Added single cream and dry cider ten mins before serving. Made Tarte Tatin for pud as have a glut of eating apples! I had a tiny portion but my OH had loads!

Sukie. Will write recipe tomorrow! I could never make successful shortbread until I came across this recipe and the cooking time...it is foolproof and always works. More chat tomorrow. Looking forward to looking up link...thank you so much for that...

deec favourite at the moment is cabbage carbonara. Uses finely sliced cabbage instead of spaghetti. Tonight we had steak with mushrooms and green beans. Berries and Greek yogurt for pudding. Tom Kerridge has a good low carb cookbook, though the recipes are rather involved. I just adapt recipes , leaving out potatoes, rice, spaghetti etc. No calorie counting. Great way to eat

I too am enjoying cooking and baking in retirement. Though mostly low carb, I'm definitely a foodie and enjoy traditional meals in moderation. Once or twice a month, I indulge myself and family with a special treat. Deec, your cherry shortbread sounds lovely, would you mind sharing the recipe, please? Hi BBbevan. What sort of thing do you like cooking? I mostly stick to low carb too....and also wheat free as wheat gives me a beer gut tummy! Not easy but my baking usually goes to family anyway. Dee

Cook every day, usually Low Carb. Hardly ever buy ready made. Don't make cakes or biscuits anymore though.

I didn’t bake really until I retired! I always maintained I was no good at it. Now I regularly make cakes, scones, flapjacks and (I am told) very good cherry shortbread! Your soup sounds wonderful. Recipe please. Which chef would you say you find most inspiring? Dee

I do! I always liked to cook and bake, but since I retired I have time to do it.
This morning I made bread, two sultana loaves and Chinese chicken, mushroom and noodle soup.
