Someone please tell me that Chris Evans' twins are not really going to be called Ping and Pong!

Boo and Walt. We used to have a cat called Boo.

Harrigran I agree about celebrities and their strangely named children to make them memorable.

Years ago we knew of films stars and singers etc, but knew little, if anything, of their family and private life.

Now, in a (lucrative) trend the Beckhams may have started, celebs, even Z listers, have to ensure their offspring are in the news too, by way of photos, Instagram and Tweets.

I am another who wouldn't miss Chris Evans if he decided to decamp to Outer Mongolia. (Bet we'd still be aware of the goings-on of his children though.)

Financial security for life = celebs making their children 'stars' too, from cradle to grave. It's awful.

I remember learning about Rum, Eigg and Muck when I was at school.

DGD has a friend called Iona, you were the lucky one Jane10

I was usually Jane to my mother (even though it's not my name)

I remember Robbie Williams telling the tale of seeing Gwyneth Paltrow and her daughter for the first tine at some 'do'. She stood next to him at the buffet and he was a bit starstruck, not knowing how to strike up a conversation. Eventually he plucked up courage and said 'Would melon like some apple?' smile

Chris Evans other two sons are called Noah and Eli. He's says that Boo and Walt are not short for anything. I don't mind Walt, but poor little girl! I hope they give her a decent middle name.

Willow10 Fri 21-Sept-18 15:32:31

I'm sure there's a song in there somewhere - 'Me and you and a cat named Boo!'

Willow10 Fri 21-Sept-18 15:39:25

Or was it a dog? confused

BlueBelle Fri 21-Sept-18 15:47:20

I think it started long before the Beckhams Day6 it seems a very long time ago when David Bowie had Zowie Bowie I think the boy later changed it to Duncan

They are talking about using Ping & Pong as middle names Minimoon . No thought given to the poor children saddled with these ridiculous names. Shouldn't really expect anything better from a washed up DJ with a huge ego.

There is a member of some pop group or other, some of his children are Geronimo, Artemis, Galileo smile

Elrel Fri 21-Sept-18 16:44:35

Boo was the little girl in Monsters Inc. Or was that a nickname?

muffinthemoo Fri 21-Sept-18 17:16:59

Bluebelle Duncan Jones was always his legal name. It was his mum who called him Zowie Bowie until she lost custody of him.

He is a very good film director nowadays.

gillybob Fri 21-Sept-18 17:25:43

I thought “Boo”was what you shouted when you jumped out and surprised someone ?? Maybe she did.

Yes I think it was a dog Willow I quite like that song smile

gillybob Fri 21-Sept-18 17:28:34

Maybe you were thinking of Moses the cat in the lovely song.......”Jessie” ?

Jalima1108 Fri 21-Sept-18 19:48:43

Willow, Elrel and gillybob

I have a book on the bookshelf behind me which is an autobiography (I think) of Evelyn Laye, an English actress, who was known as 'Boo'.

gillybob, I know, is too young to remember her!

Jalima1108 Fri 21-Sept-18 19:50:49

and NannyJan and Alima too - sorry.

Jalima1108 Fri 21-Sept-18 19:51:16

Is it fair to give children names that could embarrass them in later life?

M0nica Fri 21-Sept-18 19:55:47

In utero we had Ethelred (the unready) and Arabella (as in little Arabella Miller and her caterpillar)

They turned out to be the same sex as their in utero names and with some similar personal characteristics. Wouldn't dare call DC by those names now.

Anniebach Fri 21-Sept-18 20:13:19

Frank Sinatra and daughter Nancy.

Judy Garland and daughter Liza

Martin Sheen and son Charlie

Kirk Douglas and son Michael

Just a small number, many more

Anniebach Fri 21-Sept-18 20:15:37

Boo makes me think of Boo Radlay, To Kill A Mockingbird

PamelaJ1 Fri 21-Sept-18 20:24:19

Jalima- if the children turn out like their parents they won’t be embarrassed.

Jalima1108 Fri 21-Sept-18 20:31:30

True Pamela

I can remember being amazed to read years ago, that David Carradine (he of Kung Fu fame) had named his son Free Seagull. I wonder if the lad changed it later?

muffinthemoo Sat 22-Sept-18 00:18:59

barbara Hershey’s kid. Her stage name at the time was Seagull. Changed his name to Tom as a young kid IIRC

MissAdventure Sat 22-Sept-18 00:20:30

I'm sure Frank Zappa's son was called MoonUnit.
