On the subject of going out I was so busy posting on this thread at 5.30 that I had to dash out for early dinner booking without doing my nails!

Aah I understand now why it was important to you Petra. It wasn't just removing nail varnish! I'm glad you didn't have to remove it all, and I hope the op went well.

I've just remembered, they put the oxygen clip on my toes so that gel had to go.

GrannyGravy13 - I think we've all gone off the subject of "waiting to go out" but I thought I'd answer your nail varnish question.

Perhaps things vary depending on the operation you're having and from hospital to hospital but I have always been told before operations "absolutely no make-up at all and absolutely no nail varnish".

As the thought of this upsets you, I hope I am wrong.

There was a thread about this some time ago. I'm afraid you wouldn't have got much sympathy on it grannygravy lol. But I do know what you mean.

I haven't seen my nails for over 10 years, and have no intentions of seeing them in the near future.

Might have to have an operation in January, already having nightmares about not having nails done. Although if you have one layer of clear apparently that's ok?

You can change colour every time you go. They buff off the old and and put the new one on. They will apply 3 coats. In between each coat your hand will be put under a dryer.
You can have some Swarovski diamond chips if you want a bit of bling .
Time: about 45 mins. Cost: £23 every 3 weeks, and this is in a very expensive area (Leigh on sea, Essex)

I too hate having gel nails removed. Can't bear it so never have it done.

I’m with you on the gel nails.
Great while they last but it ruins the nail underneath when you remove them.
Mine likewise took months to recover.

DD had had hers done (her nails split and break too).

Petra - Ive only ever had my nails done with gel polish twice, a couple of years apart and both times it completely ruined them. It took months for them to grow back. I love to see it on other people, but I don't really understand how it works. Are your nails stripped each time you go and what are they like underneath?

I always have to go to the loo before I go anywhere and it has to be at the last minute so I can say to myself "This is my going out wee"! When we go shopping I also have to go as soon as we get there and then I don't think about it again............Yes, I know I am daft but it works for me!

I'm with you tea and cake, I hate it when others turn up half an hour late and often don't even apologise or offer an explanation. But then I'm always half an hour early, so I suppose its partly my own fault if I'm waiting an hour! Eldest granddaughter was told I would pick her up at a certain time and please be outside ready. As I pulled up in the car exactly on time, she called out of the bedroom window 'Just going to wash my hair Nan - won't be long!' Grrrr!

I am always ready early to go out, while DH was the complete opposite. How he managed to faff around for so long I shall never know, especially if we were going away for a few days, or on holiday! I used to tell him we were leaving an hour earlier, so that he would be ready; if we wanted to leave by 11am I used to say let's be ready for the off by 10!

I am always ready with at least 30 minutes to spare. Partner on the other hand is a Justin Time!

We have been together 6 years, and he says I am the first woman he has never had to wait for when getting ready to go out

Oh, Willow, the loo thing! I always have to ‘go’ just before leaving the house. I blame my mother.

And I’m usually late. I’ve found that if I leave with plenty of time to spare all traffic lights turn to green as I approach, all drivers drive at the speed limit and there’s not a cyclist or tractor to be seen, but if I leave a couple of minutes later than planned the reverse happens.

I know somebody who is always at least half an hour late for no discernible reason. I think it is the height of arrogance to think that people should wait around until you decide to turn up, especially in winter. Like their time is more precious than yours. I'm only late if travel, or other disasters strike.

I'm the same if someone is picking me up - taxis for instance as they're notoriously early so I'm generally stood outside or in the hall with keys in hand (wondering if I've just got time to nip in to the loo yet again!). If we're going out together my husband is still sitting on the sofa until I actually have my coat and shoes on as he won't get ready until the last possible minute or he's waiting for me. Of course he doesn't have to do anything like the amount of stuff I have to do to get ready and go out!! It's a woman/man thing
