Poppy Appeal

Unfortunately I feel it is just today's society - thank goodness there are also good and honest people about too.

The Poppy Shop Christmas cards are really good quality and value.

I have just had a look at the poppy shop, never seen it before, will definitely be buying some of the lovely things. I would like to be going somewhere that I could wear the fascinator.

I buy white poppies online.Have for years even though I sometimes get stick from naval personnel in a nearby town .MY choice what I wear.
My parents and uncles would never buy a poppy ,despite or maybe because they'd all fought in wars and some were treated disgracefully by the Earl Haig fund when they asked for help .

Some people prefer to wear a poppy for "rememberance" but don't necessarily support the British Legion. In my experience they tend to often be people who have been involved in the military in some way so obviously have their reasons.

Any charity you like or none. That's fine, it's just that the seller had items costing £10+ and was giving the impression that it was for charity when it wasn't.

notanan2, they didn't say anything, that's the point. It was all Royal British Legion blue on the trays and it was a poppy just like theirs on the blue, just no writing or any indication of where the proceeds were going. There are lots of other charities if you don't like the RBL, many using the red, white and blue colours.

If I'm giving for remembrance, I want to know who is receiving it.

I'm with paddyann, I choose a white poppy as a stand for pacifism, which is not direspecting those people who were injured or killed in war. I think it is a great pity that these are not widely available alongside red poppies.

It's not just servicemen and women who die in wars. And the British Legion accepted funding from BAE systems who supply Saudi Arabia helping to kill civilians in Yemen.

Another white poppy wearer here, and I find it surprising that strangers comment unfavourably, as they do. I give trisher's reply, often with an extra comment about arms trading.

You remember for remembrance.

You can also give money to charity with it. But its still remembrance if all you are doing is remembering and showing that remembrance with a non charity poppy

The main point is to remember the fallen.

Many people would rather their money went to the vendor/poppy maker than to the British legion, but they still want to express remembrance with a poppy. And can donate to who they chose separately.

The choices are there. Chose what suits you.

I respect the decision of those who choose to wear a white poppy.

The Royal British Legion help those service personnel returning from modern conflicts. I don't support war but I do want to support the personnel involved.

This could be what I saw. Just be sure that your money is going where you intend it to.

By buying a poppy which the RBL has purchased from the Poppy Factory, you are supporting the people who make them.

Goodness knows where these vendors get their poppies from and who the profits go to.
