I’ve been taking GN too seriously of late. So thought I’d lighten up a bit.

I’m sure you can all think of more to add to the list....

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap
when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Google Maps eally needs to start their directions on # 5.
I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection, again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

17. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

18. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

19. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

20 Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1 .7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

And #19 applies to reading as well. How many times have I read a whole page in a book, only to turn the page and realise I didn't take any of it in? I was just mechanically reading 'words' while my mind was elsewhere.

Bathsheba Fri 07-Sept-18 11:17:16

#11 is not just for people who work - I often get that 'moment' in the day when I know nothing productive will get done. And I'm retired. But isn't that what retirement's for? grin

Re
opening a discussion.
Thank you Vickya.
I get an email from Gransnet each day and there are 5 threads .
They are the only ones I look at but I expect on the forum page there are other ones.
Am I right please?
Are the 5 that are sent in the email ,the most recent or the most popular?
I have to admit that having discovered the site recently I haven't checked everything out properly yet.
I expect the answers are there somewhere.

golden girl, I like your style! grin

goldengirl Fri 07-Sept-18 11:06:52

Love this thread. A change from moans and groans [mine!]. I was fascinated by how to fold up a flat sheet - rather tortuous though? Perhaps it gets quicker with experience. In the meantime I'll continue to stuff mine in the drawer as creases don't show once it's spread out on the bed grin

JacquiG Fri 07-Sept-18 10:45:12

Like it!

missdeke Fri 07-Sept-18 10:41:21

No 13 particularly resonated with me particularly OldMeg, but can you please explain No 20, I have never ever in 70 years used the snooze button. I really cannot understand why anyone would wake themselves up before they need to get up, why not just stay asleep until the last minute?

How about taking a marker pen along to the supermarket and altering the label on the 'Ripen at home' fruit to
'Rotten at home'
However often I check them, the fruits go from hard to squashy overnight

schnackie Fri 07-Sept-18 10:08:39

Love this thread! I learned how to fold fitted sheets so long ago I don't remember - but absolutely cannot get a duvet cover on! I blame my short arms (only 5 feet tall).

When you get to the climax of a good detective/crime show and all of your deductive thoughts on 'who did it' comes to fruition and you're just about to be proven to be the next Mrs Marple, the phone goes with your frantic DD on the other end asking for your advice on how to stop your DGS drawing poo pictures on his bedroom wall shock

jenni123 omg, your bus story, a real LOL that one! I read it out to my DH and we're still both giggling about it gringringrin

Bathsheba Fri 07-Sept-18 09:54:36

Spices are generally measured by the teaspoon in recipes, but no teaspoon ever made, nor any from sets of measuring spoons, will fit into the spice jars.

For 6 consecutive days I check the avocado and it's still not ripe. On day 7 it's gone bad.

When I make the effort and do my hair and makeup, I don't see anyone I know all day. When I look like a bag lady on a bad day, I bump into every single person I have ever known.

1) Pay a stranger a compliment.
I have complimented women on their hai, dress, behaviour of their children/ grandchildren.
Few days ago a woman stopped me to ask where I had bought my outfit and told me how elegant I looked in it.
She made my day.
2)Don't surround yourself with negative people
3) Before you go to sleep ,however bad the day has been think of one thing that has pleased you during the day.
4) If you make a mistake-learn from it.
5) Be a person whose glass is half full not half empty

Up to now I haven't wanted to start a thread but will somebody please tell me how one does so?
Thank you

Brilliant Oldmeg, something lighthearted at last.
DanniRae I am intrigued ...#2. I don't regret telling her to burn all my diaries (especially from 2004!!) when I die. what has been going on since 2004?
ChaosIncorporated #2. Why do small children always say the most embarrassing thing at the quietest point in general conversation?
I was on a London bus, years ago when we still had conductors, I was with a friend and her 4 year old daughter and we had just come from the hospital where my friend had to go for iron injections. The bus was full and we were sitting opposite each other on the long bench seats, suddenly the child said in a very loud voice 'Mummy, why did you take your knickers off and let that man stick his thing in your bottom?' My friends face was scarlett and the whole bus went silent.. just as the child was about to repeat the question my friend found her voice and said 'That man was a doctor and that thing was an injection'. Every passenger breathed out and the conductor walked past and said 'Cor, that was a relief love'.

Fold a fitted sheet??! Really? Not if you have a five foot bed. Just do the best you can, I do a sort of roll, and shove it in the airing cupboard. Life is too short, can think of things I’d rather be doing.

Nandalot Fri 07-Sept-18 09:26:57

Lovely thread. Making me smile.

mabon1 Fri 07-Sept-18 09:23:37

Folding a fitted sheet? who cares about that? Life too short

loopyloo Fri 07-Sept-18 09:20:21

Thank you Gabriella! I dislike the use of pardon.

Nannyme Fri 07-Sept-18 09:00:17

Can anyone tell me why we become invisible when we are sat next to a table of youthful beauties in a restaurant !

craftergran Fri 07-Sept-18 08:56:17

How come the container I keep the tea bags is always empty on my turn to make tea?
How come the bin is always needing emptying when I want to put onion peelings in it?
How come no matter how careful I am when peeling and chopping garlic and getting rid of the skins one of the skins ALWAYS lands on the kitchen floor?

GabriellaG Fri 07-Sept-18 08:46:46

Actually, quizqueen What? really is the 'proper' word to use.
Pardon is erroneously used to mean 'I didn't hear' it's true meaning is to excuse.

GabriellaG Fri 07-Sept-18 08:41:31

# 18 resonates but here in the UK we tend not to do that too often.
#1 - your computer and phone history is never really deleted.
#5 - I'm a dab hand at folding fitted sheets (visit YouTube) grin

grove1234 Fri 07-Sept-18 08:33:53

wonderful thank you old meg
I,m bagging the toy boy .

quizqueen Fri 07-Sept-18 08:33:37

17. People who say 'what' when they need something repeated really annoy me as it's just plain bad manners. The word is pardon! The word 'what' needs to be part of a sentence. I work in a nursery and I am always correcting the children when they respond to me with just that word.
