Well said Lazigirl, and as many have mentioned, some shades of 'beige' can look fantastic if the garment is well cut and stylish and the colour suits the wearer.
As for the elderly lady in beige, so what? We all have different ideas of what looks good on us. Around the house I can wear whatever I like, depending on what I am doing. A trip to the supermarket doesn't have me taking too much time deciding what to wear either. I buy my clothes to suit my shape and colouring (beige/taupe/sand/nude/camel included) and I do make an effort generally to look good. One of my best friends sports an outrageous Bohemian look, always, and she looks fabulous. To each their own I say. I know lots of people who always dress for comfort rather than style.
